It is amazing how you can have such a messy garage yet I looked long and hard and could not find any dirt. The worst that I found was a couple of drops of oil or antifreeze on the floor under the engine. Now if that was me working there wouldn't be clean spots the size of your dirty spots.

I look forward to seeing what the next year brings. All the best in 2012.

Thomas, my hat is off to you and yours. Beautiful workmanship and a timeless project.
I've restored a 200+ year old log house into our homestead but have found very few remnants of the past other than the timbers and the stories they tell.
Vision is not only in the eyes.

I know it's real late but I just found this site because I was looking for more info on a jack that my dad had for several years & I acquired after he died. It is a Walker hydraulic Roll-A-Car #784 Series C 4 ton jack & it really looks a lot like the 1 in your post from 2009 (the 1 that hasn't been cleaned or painted. Mine functions but has a slight leak & needs to be rebuilt. My question is this, what is the jack worth in it's present shape & where would I be able to sell it to someone that would actually get some use out of it. Hopefully the attached photos will help shed some light on this jack.

I can't tell you what it's worth but you can post it here (you would have to set a price but it would go to a good home) and probably have it gone in a matter of a few days. Other options would include eBay (you wouldn't need to figure out what it's worth then) or CraigsList (you set the price but have to deal the crazy's coming to your house).

BFBOB go on now, you're just saying that........... Hey seriously, though I do like to make things happen. Just love the creative process and I'm pretty much a "hands on" guy. Some folks thumb through a catalog and write checks and presto, instant whatever. Blame or credit my Dad for me getting involved in projects and getting my hands dirty. Fortunately Miss Chris is extremely understanding about it all and at times even seems to enjoy getting caught up in it.

Hello Chuck and let me express my condolences for the loss of your father. Did you get the answers to all your questions? As you know I have, and most of my friends on this thread, have a fondness for old equipment, especially well made ones such as Walker floor jacks. The Garage Journal Classifieds would be the perfect place to advertise it. Price is always what a buyer is willing to pay and a seller is willing to sell. Ball park, ones needing service work and attention like yours, seem to change hands in the range of $100- $200 from what i've seen if that's helpful. You're not going to be able to retire from the proceeds from selling it I'm afraid. As you might have read these jacks restore very well...

...and yours looks to be a nice one, very similar to the one I restored (before, on the right) and had powder coated.

The cover plate with the embossed WALKER name is stamped steel making it slightly newer than the cast steel cover on the original paint Walker. Chuck it's a nice piece and I hope someone from the Journal is able to buy it and give it a good home. It deserves that. Let us know where it winds up will you please and if we can help with anything else? Garage Journal folks are pretty special I've found and we'd like to help. Good luck.

Hugo how this thread turned into (now) 212 pages and Still growing is, well, I guess a testament to- never say and show in a few pages what you can expand into 212 pages- and more.... I've got the 1950's family 8 mm film turned into DVD on the shop about ready, I'm still sorting old '50's, 60's and 70's photographs from out there, the tool shed and lean-to are slowly getting cleaned out, the BBB is in the final stages, some terrific heavy duty tables/benches from a tool and die maker that are getting transformed, a lumber rack nearing the last stages of fabrication, more equipment restorations ongoing, and there other things best not mention just yet.

Soooooooooooo more is in the pipeline for 2012.

Welcome ricardorevello to the Garage Journal and to our little shop. I bet you'll like spending some time here on the Forums. I'm afraid my Portuguese isn't up to snuff enough to converse even after all the time I've spent flying to Brazil. Thomas and all....The log house project started in 1995 and progressed for a couple years with the addition to it and outbuildings.

I've started a new place that is going to be a timberframe. The new garage is started and there is a thread:

I'll update it soon as the timbers will be raised starting next monday 1/9.

buzzworth... you are not the only one with a restored Log Cabin, my parents bought this in 1960 or 1961 and it is where I spent most of my summers, we rebuilt it in the mid 90's and added a bathroom to the back and central air and heat, my baby sister lives in it now.
