hahahaha a replacement box would be 21,000, and his 30 year old acquired used tools are another 80k no way jose, not sure how much "Toughbook With Techstream , 4 Channel Pico Scope, Two Vetronix Mastertechs" are but i would think he would be lucky to get 35k

Toughbooks are like 3-4 grand, Toyota software and a IDS pass through is a couple grand.

And in a few years it would be worth 3-4 hundred. Computers become obsolete so fast it isnt funny.

True but use a regular laptop in a shop and it won't last a couple of years. Toughbooks are made for abuse. My CF29 is old like 2003 or something. Running XP, 1 gig of RAM and has a 40 gig HD but it's perfect running OEM software for a scan tool. You just can't kill a toughbook.

Just a FYI, Tiger direct sells lease return toughbook cheap. I got mine for about $400 and I spent another $80 in RAM/DVD drive upgrades.

Easy there Trigger. Absolutely no way...possible. There is just no way.

I love ads like this. "Hey I have a car. 20k and it's yours." Nothing else.

Sure I will buy that Tool Box full of Tools when you only show 2 or 3 drawers of Tools. I will just give you the benefit of the doubt on the rest of it. What is ~100k to complete strangers anyways?

Couldn't you get all that new for less???

Probably but it's hard to tell for sure without detailed pictures of every drawer. It's definitely possible to cram 100K+ into a box of that size. There does look to be around 10k retail in diagnostic gear but beyond that it's hard to say.

Realistically though even if that lot is worth over 100k new ain't no way it'll sell for that. About the only people who'd buy that are resellers with a bunch of cash. About the most they'd pay, if it really is worth 100k retail, is 25 grand.

I would think that at retail and brand new, that's about $105,000 worth in tools, but not in used condition, not a chance.

The seller has been buying tools very recently on Ebay, most recently Snap-On screwdrivers and wrenches at not particularly bargain prices. Listing on Ebay is free, maybe seller is justing trying to see if there's anyone wealthy enough or clueless enough to bite at his asking price.

For me to even think there is 105K worth of tools there for resale, I would say they would have to be worth around $200K new. I know damn well there is not anywhere near $200K there. This guy is an idiot and I cant believe he would even think he has that kind of money sitting there.

I was at an auction a while back where severely abused HF wrenches brought more than new price,,, makes one wonder doesn't it? Truck tools that were in fair shape about 30 cents on the dollar at best.

I've bought and sold a few tools over the years and came to the following conclusion..

Condition is critical when asking "premium" prices... if a tool looks unused, then you can ask $.75 on the dollar, maybe take $.70 ... when there is minor wear, you're closer to $.50c and when you're at "professional mechanic" used condition, where there are hundreds of cycles on an item, you're closer to $.30-35c on the dollar retail.

But,,, I think its a genius idea to list that for some outrageous price. Its got a lot of attn and someone will come along and offer a 3rd of it and be bragging it up as to what a bargain they got.If he listed it for 30K someone would come along and offer 10 but this way he has everyone spreading it all around for him for free,,,, not so stupid?

Wow Toyota is a ripoff. Unless it has changed you could order a preloaded Toughbook from Mack for like $4300. That doesn't include hookups for the trucks but still.

Depends on the price. If too high it scares off buyers. When we were car shopping I wouldn't even bother with the cars that were way overpriced. Not worth my time. Ironically enough you see them on Craigslist and dealers lots for months because they refuse to lower the price.

Probably got it in a storage unit auction. Those guys are always putting outrageous prices on the junk that they get out of those lockers. (Storage Wars etc.)

Don't forget the $40,000 worth in bananas and sports drinks.

You'd think he could pay someone to spend a couple hours to inventory everything if he's asking that amount of money.

Unless you're actually interested in purchasing this at anywhere near his price, let's not bug him with a ton of questions from uninterested buyers, that's just rude.

His price may be batshit insane but it's his gear and he has a right to list/sell it for whatever he wants. Yes, not inventorying tools, showing all drawers, asking that much, etc. is all idiotic.

Could be he's way smarter than anyone thinks.. His wife tells him "you got too many tools & I need a new kitchen" So he's "trying" to sell them... :bounce:
