I have built 3 in total. And wanted to do another. But I can By a real Harley used for half of what it cost to build my own. And not have to deal with getting it titled and insurance issues. So I bought this 2000 Wide Glide and made it the way I liked it.

Here's an Ultima Black Cloud we built, Many of the mods I didn't get pictures of, but we did pipe inside the backbone to route all the wiring hidden, removed the mounting brackets from the oil tank to the down tube, added brackets up inside the battery hole to secure the oil tank, totally hidden. As a painter, one of my pet peeves with M/C paint jobs is the paint that gets rubbed off by the seat. So rather than a f/g seat pan, we fabricated one from 1/8" steel and held it 1/4" off the rear fender. This gap allowed for upholstery and about 1/8 gap left over, with no flex to damage the fender paint. The rear fender struts were tig welded to the back fender for a clean look.

Tank is about 75% done. All done by hand, using only aviation snips, tucking forks, plastic mallets, body hammers, dollies, and a sand bag. All tacked here, Soon to play with my Miller Diversion 180 to finish weld it all up, after I finish planishing it all perfectly smooth.

Here's some pics from the build of the softail. I use Mid Usa frames. I think there really nice. I also use Stock Harley Duece front ends. There really clean. And you can find them at swaps new in the box with tree's. If ya really look hard you can get a great deal on a Stock evo at a harley dealer. If they have had it in stock for awhile.. Brake parts are all over at the swaps. They were harley also. And stock rotors look great after polishing!! Can you tell I have a problem with aftermarket stuff!! There is some good stuff out there but I think most of it is ****. Didnt bend and weld my own frame/tank but had a ball building these bikes. The best part is there reliable:thumbup: There is still minor frame fabrication you have to do. Good prodject for someone who isnt the best welder. I wouldnt trust my weld to cross the street:lol_hitti Maybe on my mower or something like that.

This one is Deer damage repairs.......

DVC00064.jpg

He wanted some tribal flames and we thought we'd try the mirra chrome..

Base and clear.....and also a nice tree for painting the Harley tanks, get to everything without tanks flopping around........ ;)

Picture031.jpg

Picture035.jpg

detail on the tree ears...weld beads applied in strategic locations to hold the tanks in place.....

Be sure to mock up the dash so you don't cover all your work....as well as the seat..

HPIM2112.jpg

HPIM2115.jpg

Mirrachrome applied....may have been a bit more reflective with my new airbrush, this was using a Badger..

HPIM2126.jpg

HPIM2124.jpg

HPIM2127.jpg

The Speedclear dulled out the mirrachrome more than I cared for, but the owner really liked the flame layout.

HPIM2131.jpg

HPIM2134.jpg

HPIM2133.jpg

So to keep from having to reshoot the mirrachrome, we laid on some Kandy with pearl and then cleared, this was the result. The pop in the sun was unreal.....

here is a crappy pic of mine. It has been together about 12 years. i was going to take it apart to chrome and paint. I even thought about padding on the seat, but it's a lot of fun the way it is.

This is a 1970 DKW that i gave to my father in law for his birthday. He raced desert in the late 60's-mid 70's and always talked about getting another bike to put around on. He always mentioned the DKW he rode and the hunt was on. I just cleaned it up, made new gaskets for the engine and trans, rebuilt the carb, laced a new front rim and made all new cables for it. I didn't go too far because I wasn't sure how he would like it. He LOVED it.

Probably not what you guys had in mind…

And its current state… Disassembled and sand blasted. The rest of the parts are on the other bench…

I'll have to wait for some slightly warmer weather before I attempt to repaint.

What front end is that? I like it.

j/saw. How well does the leading link front end work? How does it react to rain grooves ?

It rides very stiff. The original springs called out on the plans were not stiff enough. I compensated with springs that are much stiffer, so it is a solid ride.

The length of the rockers gives it 4.5 inches of trail, so it steers nice.

If I was to do it again, I would probably build a standard springer

Picture214.jpg

also have this Honda cl360 project, now torn down to the frame and will probably get lowered with struts and a few other mods before i put it together again

I didn't even think to show THAT kind of bike...

This is my first welding project, from when i was 15. I dug it out to add in the webs to strengthen the rear section and added the front web to make it look cool...

Then my girl's 8 year old decided that he wanted to make a bike, who am I to deny a child?

He has his own welding mask, and while he does more watching and learning than actual work, he did twist the square sissy bar (not together at this point, but with one side on) himself!
