Are Blue-Point and Duralast tools thes same????

Duralast is cheap?!! Not at the Autozone here it isn't. It's twice or more as expensive at Craftsman stuff is.

Never heard that Blue Point=Duralast. I doubt Snap On would be real happy with that though.

Why are these guys using sockets to break fasteners loose? I don't get the calling a C-man socket "****" etc because it broke after having a cheater bar put on it while you have your pet elephant jump on the end of the bar.

I doubt it. The blue point wrenches I have seen are satin finish. I believe the Duralast stuff is poslished chrome. I guess they could be made in the same plant and are using different specs for different manufacturers.
I haven't heard anything really bad about Duralst tools. The problem I have with it is the price. For a few more $ I can find some nice US made stuff, especially if buying used.

They mostly sell to the weekend mechanic who needs an emergency replacement, or is in dire need of a tool to finish his weekend project. If there is no SEARS close by, then the local Autoparts stores are the logical choice for tools.

Exactly. Way back when I was starting out and did not have much of a tool selection I would have to run to the local parts place to grab a wrench or socket or something to finish a project.

I bought a combo set of metric short and deep Duralast sockets a while back. Was a few bucks cheaper than the non-sale Craftsman.
Then we had the $5 off $5 coupon fiasco and I tripled my socket collection with laser etched Craftsman with rails.

Now the Duralast set is in my Salvage Yard bag-o-tools. I only take tools I can afford to lose. So far the cheap taiwan ratchets and duralast sockets are taking a beating just fine.

looking at them they do seem to have a similar machined groove at the base of the socket. Duralast paints in the groove, snap on doesn't. Hard to tell without a true side by side comparo

The reason I posted this thread was because I did see some similarities between the BP and the DL tools.
Then again, if I were in the market for good Asian tools, GearWrench would be my first choice.

Autozone is too damned proud of their Duralast tools for me to buy any... but I do play with them on the off-chance the I actually go into an Autozone store.

Wow visiting that site was "deja vu all over again". It's good to see were not the only ones who have these discussions.

I love the way people just toss out "facts" with no proof.

Pirate 4x4 and Discoweb are both overflowing with jerks. Some of the crowd over there are for real and have great knowledge, but a lot just like to run their mouths. If the level of conversation would increase by about 50%, the sites would actually be worth looking at. When you have to wade through 75% of a thread worth of **** and people running each other down just to get at something useful, it isn't worth it. If you feel so bad about yourself that you have to constantly run everyone down, you need to spend your internet time at counseling instead. As a side note, the UK auto forums are much more civilized than some of the US ones.

Tyre Smoke is the only UK forum i can recall going on. I know i've been on other, just don't remember the names. That forum seems to be a real enthusiast site, with knowledgable guys and civilised members. Others, i can't vouch for.

I have one Duralast tool. A screwdriver, from a day when I needed a size, that I had left at home on the bench.

Well most forums are overflowing with jerks. The only auto forum I am on is the one at Fordification for 67-72 Ford trucks and it seems to be fine. The big ones just suffer from undermoderation.

I'm enjoying giggling at the pseudo-scientists on explorerforum.com who are big proponents of hydrogen bubblers for increased gas mileage.

Apparently, a single pint of bottled water can provide enough hydrogen to increase mileage by 10mpg, while still leaving 2/3rds of the water in the jar after two weeks of driving a few hundred miles.

Duralast tools are lifetime warranty with no receipt required. AutoZone is the only store that carries the brand. The prices have come down over the past 90 days as well. I have the ratcheting wrenches in sae and metric. I have been using them for 3 years with no issue. nice tools imo

Yeah, it can be a waste... but for someone who has never checked it out, there's all sorts of fun stuff to look through. As for the love affair with HF... I am always amazed at what those people can do with such obviously inferior tools...
