My buddy was the one that turned me onto this forum. That was about 5 months ago and now I find myself checking the site everyday looking for new threads and great ideas. You guys have a lot of great tips and ideas for everything and the garages on this site are amazing. I love to see the big expensive garages as well as the guy next door shops. I really appreciate and respect most
of your opinions on here. Ok enough of that now onto the garage.
I just bought his house in Oct. 2011, Its a brick ranch built in 1973 and is pretty dated on the inside. The house is very solid and has new windows which I installed just after moving in. It also has a new roof and furnace thanks to the previous owners. The electrical is in good shape and I just had the electrical box updated and I installed a sub panel in the garage.
The garage had one outlet and 2 lights, just the typical 70's garage. Its amazing that they didn't seem to care that much about working in the garage much back then. The one outlet in the garage made it very difficult to get any work done. My portable compressor would blow the breaker sometimes when its cold out.
I installed a 100 amp subpanel in the garage along with 7 duplex recepticles, a single recpticle near the ceiling for a TV in the future. I also intalled an additional plug in the ceiling for a ceiling mounted drop light and extension cord. I also will be installing a ceiling fan which is on order as I type. I scraped the textured ceiling and was going to respray it with texture and knock it down but once I scraped it down it had a similar look to the knock down finish so I just painted over it. I also painted the walls with a stripe in th middle and installed 6 new T8 light fixtures. I plan to install a new garage door when my pocket book will allow for it. Ok here are the pictures.
before shot of the garage
making room for the new subpanel
hole left by PO
plug and cable for future TV
running the wire from the subpanel to the basement panel
original panel in basement
My brother checking in on the progress. You can see some of the holes I had to cut to run the wires
New subpanel installed
2nd coat of paint on the ceiling
new main panel in basement
