My buddy was the one that turned me onto this forum. That was about 5 months ago and now I find myself checking the site everyday looking for new threads and great ideas. You guys have a lot of great tips and ideas for everything and the garages on this site are amazing. I love to see the big expensive garages as well as the guy next door shops. I really appreciate and respect most:) of your opinions on here. Ok enough of that now onto the garage.

I just bought his house in Oct. 2011, Its a brick ranch built in 1973 and is pretty dated on the inside. The house is very solid and has new windows which I installed just after moving in. It also has a new roof and furnace thanks to the previous owners. The electrical is in good shape and I just had the electrical box updated and I installed a sub panel in the garage.

The garage had one outlet and 2 lights, just the typical 70's garage. Its amazing that they didn't seem to care that much about working in the garage much back then. The one outlet in the garage made it very difficult to get any work done. My portable compressor would blow the breaker sometimes when its cold out.

I installed a 100 amp subpanel in the garage along with 7 duplex recepticles, a single recpticle near the ceiling for a TV in the future. I also intalled an additional plug in the ceiling for a ceiling mounted drop light and extension cord. I also will be installing a ceiling fan which is on order as I type. I scraped the textured ceiling and was going to respray it with texture and knock it down but once I scraped it down it had a similar look to the knock down finish so I just painted over it. I also painted the walls with a stripe in th middle and installed 6 new T8 light fixtures. I plan to install a new garage door when my pocket book will allow for it. Ok here are the pictures.

More recent pictures from this weekend.

garagepics007.jpg

My Dayton electric heater.

This heater is great It warms this garage up very quickly. I have had this heater in 3 previous garages the last two of which were temporary.

Starting to layout the stripe

garagepics015.jpg

garagepics016.jpg

Started painting the stripe. In the past I have always had an issue with bleed through on the tape. Last year I was watching Mike Holmes and his painter Craig (it think thats his name) showed how to do it so the paint does not bleed under the tape. He siad to put very little paint on the brush and lightly brush the edge of the tape line and once that drys you can come back over it with a good thick coat and it won't bleed. It worked very well.

garagepics018.jpg

I planned it so that the duplex recepticles will fall in the middle of the stripe. It may not be exact but it looks pretty good I think. I also opted for black outlets and swithes in hopes that they would not show dirt as bad. And it will go with my theme.

garagepics019.jpg

hanging my new lights. I picked up 6 of these 8 ft fixtures on CL for $80. They had been damaged in shipping. They were all bent in the middle. I was able to straighten them up fairly decent. The metal was stretched and they still have a little wrinkle in them but its hard to tell once they were mounted.

garagepics020.jpg

I wired the lights on two different switches so if I just need to grab something out of my car I wouldn't have to turn all the lights on at once. So the two middle lights in each row are on one switch and the rest on another. The fan switch is also wired up. I ordered an industrial style from HD that had a brushed metal finish.

That's all of the garage pictures I have for now. I plan on cleaning the place up tomorrow and I will get some more pictures.

Replacing the old Stab-Lok panel was a good idea http://inspectapedia.com/fpe/fpepanel.htm .

The new sub-panel in the garage was another good idea nicely executed.

Thanks. Yeah that old panel worried me. The wiring looks to be in good shape and I plan to add and change a few things on the house as I go along. The new panel has plenty of room for expansion.

Here are some pictures of a couple projects and my 67 Camaro that will go into the garage.

115.jpg

My brothers 68 Chevelle that we started on about 3 years ago. Since then I have had to move my garage a couple times and it was put on the back burner. But I will get it moved in later this spring and try to get it finished up.

The Chevelle frame which we had sand blasted and powder coated.

110.jpg

The Chevelle is on a rotissere that my brother and I built. My brother is a fabricator/welder. He did most of the welding on it.

Here is a press that we built. It is an air over hydraulic set up.

This is my Camaro that I have owned since 95. I finished the restoration in 2001. Here it is back in 2005 (I think) on Power Tour in from of the Keisler trailer. The car has a 396 with a 5 speed overdrive.

My plans also include building some enclosed cabinets along the front and side wall. I also plan on building a new welding table. I will post additional pictures as things get completed and as I bring my tools in.

Thanks jhn9840, I have projects pileing up waiting for the garage to be completed. I have a 68 Impala that a lady wants me to get running and back on the road. Her husband restored it years ago and when he passed away she put it in storage. Its been sitting about 5 or 6 years. I also have my cousins Mercury Mountaineer that has deer damage. So plenty of work to do.

A few more pictures, I managed to get all the drywall dust cleaned up last weekend. I also brought some of my equipment home.

put all my stuff out under the patio while I washed down the floor.

garagepics004-1.jpg

I also installed the new fan. Its a metal blade fan. I came with a 12" down rod but it would have put the fan too low so I cut the rod down to 5" and redrilled the hole

The garage is coming along nicely. The fan has a nice contemporary, industrial feel. It has me thinking about putting a ceiling fan in my place. Like the first gen too.

Thanks guys, I plan to put upper and lower cabinets along the front wall (black and red of course) along with my work bench. I would also like to put some shallow cabinets on one side wall for oil, paint and misc.

Other plans include closing off part of my covered patio just outside the back garage door to put the compressor and over flow from the garage. The patio is approx 14 by 24 all covered and I want to close off about 14x 9. It should really keep the clutter to a minimum in the garage (yeah right!). I have to extend the concrete about 2' to finish this project so it may take a couple months but I will get some pics when its done.
