Hey folks!
I had just finished installing a new fuel pump on my truck. Figured a better take a ride around the block. I past a house with this thing sitting at the end of the driveway so I pulled over and knocked on the door.
The guy said he had just posted it on Craigslist for free. I offered to save him the headache of dealing with Craig's and take it off his hands.
He said he always had a hard time with the pressure switch not always working and he was tired of it.
I said I would likely install a new motor and pump on it to which he said the pump was only about a year old.

Neither the pump nor the motor are original obviously as there were new jokes drilled in the mounting plate for the motor.
I think it's an 80 gallon. Haven't looked inside to see the condition yet.

Anyone recommend a good pimp and motor to put on this beast if the tank is usable? Id like it to replace my LOUD oil less craftsman 40 gal and maybe run some air tools with my brain intact :lol_hitti

Guess I should post the photos eh?!
The tank has been painted and it almost looks like there is light blue under there.

The tag on the tank just looks like an inspection tag from the manufacturer.
The motor (2hp) is small, probably too small for a bigger pump, and the pump has no identification on it at all. Wish I knew the CFm rating of it.

Ya know, I've read through a bunch if posts here where someone stumbled across a nice tool for free and I thought the same as you!
Mine you, the motor and pump on this are quite undersized for the tank, but it still make for a cool project at least.

you time will come :D

BTW, I did out power to it and it runs and the pump is quiet. I didn't take it to pressure as there as a bung on the side I need to install a pressure gauge in first.

Well it wasn't as bad as it could have been; you could have been drilling hoes and recompensing pimps...

Get the gauge and relief valve sorted and see how long they little puppy takes to filll the tank. :dunno:

If you are not doing a lot of high volume work it might get you by.

I would buy a new dual stage pump and motor to go on the big tank.

You could then sell your old compressor along with the pump and motor off the big one to recoup some or all of the costs.

I thinks that what ill do. Id like something with a bit more CFM then the craftsman. Actually, i think its the volume of the oil free pump on the craftsman that prevents me from using it often.

This one has noise too but its not an obnoxious drone like the black one.

I got the craftsman for $50 on craigs last summer and installed piston rings on it and have been using it ever since. I could probably get $150 maybe 200 out of it. That would be most of the cost of a HF Dual stage pump. Its the motor that's expensive. Theres a tool surplus store down here that has piles (literally!) Piles of ****! i bet i could find a high torque 5hp motor in there for next to nothing.

First off....I live in Highlands Ranch also so I know it is one of those big planned communities with lots of covenants and restirctions and people who own many sets of golf clubs but not even one hammer. You are pretty damn lucky to make a find there!!!!

So neighbor, a great big "you ****"!!!

Well hello neighbor!
I specifically bought a house in Acres Green. I'm young and the house is perfect for a fresh family, plus i have a hair over 1/3 acre for the great dane to run around. Acres green is MUCH more lax on covenants and is really considered Unincorporated Douglas so i get more freedom that way then all the other subdivisions surrounding us.
Still, the chances of me driving by this guys house the moment he placed it on craigslist is HIGHLY unlikely. As are the chances that i beat a steel scrapper to it

The motor pulley looks too big for a 2 h.p., 3450 rpm motor. I don't see an unloader valve. That could explain a lot. Nice find for sure.

Well I'm 99% sure whoever had this before installed this motor and maybe used the old pully. It fires right up fine, but that might change under pressure.
There is a valve under the pressure switch but that won't help at all.

Like I said, I probably need to research the proper way to fully setup a compressor pump and motor and make this a project.
