Hi Guys,

My name is Scott, and I'm an automobile mechanic from Canada. I just found this site while searching for information regarding my vintage portable Snap-On toolbox. I've recently become interested in old auto collectables and such and so I picked this toolbox up last summer for $5 at a garage sale. I've only now found the time to do research about the model, date, and restoration options. However, my findings from hours of research are inconclusive so I have come to you guys seeking help!!

Here's what I got

I can't find any model numbers on it anywhere at all. Snap-On Tools is embossed on the front, and just above that is the faint and tiny remnants of a sticker.

I'm pretty sure the sticker most likely looked like this one here below

Any info you guys can give me about this particular box would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

nice to see the paint is original in regards to the remnants of the sticker or painted label.

$5 is a score!

I have one just like it but a tad bit smaller and with no tray and I think I am going to sell it to pay for a larger box.

Sometimes near 1950 they would have changed to a metal handle. so yous is prob. early 50s. Hard to get an exact date, just in the ball park.

it should be stamped on the inside of the box from what i remember. on the inside on the left. thats where mine is. look closely

No, there's nothing on the inside or outside. The bottom is rusted so I'm thinking it might have been there

I just realized that on the back of the latch there is the markings "Stanley USA" engraved in small print on it. Were just the latches made by Stanley or what?

The gray paint came before the red/orange and lasted until late forties. It may have had the leather handle and then been replaced. The leather handles took a beating and deterated with age. I have an old K-21 box that was gray and the leather handle is just in fair shape....TIM
