Any suggestions on the cheapest place to get a synthetic oil change? I normally do them by myself but recently moved to an apartment complex with no garage / awful street parking.

Make friends with a local person that has space, maybe offer to change their oil at the same time as you do your?

I'd avoid a chain, and forget about finding the lowest price, find a good indy shop and give them all your business. Oil changes are the cheapest service you are going to ever have done, and one of the hardest to detect screw ups, don't pick a shop based on their price.

BTW a good shop may have no issue with you supplying your own expensive weird brand of oil and/or filter, and that can save a fair amount.

My rule on auto repair.

You can complain about price, or you can complain about quality, I prefer to complain about the price.

i have to second the advice above... the $8/hr guy isn't going to care if he feels the drain plug go in cross threaded, and a new oil pan is going to cost you more than the $$$ you saved using the cheapest oil change place.

if you have a car where the oil filter is on top, consider using a oil pump like the Mityvac. you can then change your oil without getting the car on ramps or jackstands and so you can probably do it really quick in your parking spot. i have a few friends with BMWs that come by my place and I do their oil changes in 15 minutes in my drive way and they take their old oil with them to dump at the local Autozone.

These have been as low as $9.99 in the past. YMMV

Jawn, you may not have seen my earlier post in this thread, but my mat also came sans the hat. Called JEGS 800#, they sent the order confirmation for the hat right after I called and made things right. The hat is on its' way! Good customer service.

thanks for heads up. good deal that i jumped on. I only have flare style crows feet. Bummer no 16/18--but ill fill them in. Price was to good to pass up.

Here is an eBay listing (not mine) for greater than 50% off USA made, metric, Blackhawk open-end crowfoot wrench set: eBay.

On MSC Direct's website, the set is a fortune: MSC.

With the satin finish, the Blackhawk's are probably identical to Stanley Proto's J49XXM line of metric, open-end, crowfoot wrenches: Proto.

The only negative about the Blackhawk crowfoots is that there are no detents on the internal drive sides to securely hold the crowfoot to a ratchet or a socket extension bar. A work around is using locking extensions with these crowfoots. I purchased the same Blackhawk set from another eBay seller for $10 more earlier this month.

The Wera BC BR Bit-check with Bit Ratchet set is $49.04 at Amazon, and there's only one left in stock at the moment. This is the lowest price it's ever been, I've been tracking this on my Amazon price tracker for quite some time.

I bought in at $52.14 earlier today thinking I may not ever have a chance to pick it up for that cheap again (I saw it as low as $54 last year), so I'm pretty surprised that it went even lower. Normally Amazon's system adjusts the price back up after a purchase is made. FYI this set normally goes for around $80-90 when not on sale.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004ISLNRO/?tag=atomicindus08-20

The Kraftform Plus Lasertip 6 piece set is down to $24.63 shipped, also one of the cheapest prices I've ever seen for that set:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001NQQCM/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Also, the Kraftform Micro precision screwdriver set is down to $19.81, also the lowest I've ever seen, and to my knowledge the lowest price Amazon has ever offered

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001P18PA/?tag=atomicindus08-20

The Wera Zyklop 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 ratchets have also dropped to $52, $53, and $60 respectively, all excellent prices, and probably the best you can find at the moment. With free shipping, these prices are likely unbeatable.

Quaker State is running a $20 rebate on synth oil or oil change, if you are ok with the brand, you may want to
consider.

Just picked up a Allen tool set (USA made, all of it) for 125 at the local farm and fleet. 152 piece set, seemed pretty decent for the price.

I don't understand the allure of a bright yellow hat that will most certainly draw some stereotypes if you wear it in public.

That's why I gave no fucks when I didn't receive mine. Not knocking anyone who would wear it, but it's definitely not gonna be on my head.
lol... y'all kill me.

First, it's a free hat. Based on the fact that this is a thread about "hot deals", and anything free pretty much counts as being a hot deal (generally), a fee automotive related hat seems worthy.

Second, it's actually a fairly decent quality hat for being free. I've gotten tons of free hats, most of which I would never wear or would never last past wearing a couple times. The Jegs hat has bested both of those criteria so far.

Third, I'm not sure what (negative?) stereotype(s) you're suggesting I elicit by wearing it, but several perfect strangers admired it on our 2 day vacation this week to Disney and Legoland. A couple guys asked me what drag classes and series I run in (none of consequence, I had to admit), and I got to learn a bit about both of them and their 1400hp Pro-stock car. Besides that, it was totally functional at keeping me un-sunburned, as well as making it super easy to identify my kids in the crowds (they both wore one), and vice versa.

So, overall, these 3 free Jegs hats have helped me make friends, help me keep my kids safe, helped me avoid sunburn (and maybe skin cancer), and made me look way cooler than I really am. So I'm glad I made the 2 minute phone call to get my free hats sent to me when they weren't included with the mat(s) I bought.

They're as good as any bit you're likely to find.

If your're looking for better than Wera, then you're probably going to need to step up to Snap-on (Zephyr), or Apex.

Luckily, it seems that Amazon restocks very quickly, so you shouldn't have to wait too long.

For me though, mine arrive tomorrow :D

Dang, I love my Amazon Prime membership SO MUCH. :p

Very cool although I find Amazon's list prices highly inflated so 70% off may only be 20% off. Also, I'm definitely not getting just Prime items....maybe I'm doing something wrong? For example, I just looked up Dewalt and one of the first items that was listed was a DCB120 - the price was $23.49 + 8.99 shipping - and this can be found cheaper at a number of other sites.

Evercraft is their import line. I believe it has a lifetime warranty (or used to).

It's traditionally been decent quality stuff. I've got a couple of old Evercraft 3/8 ratchets (standard and flexhead) that work well.

That's really not a bad price for flare nut crow foots.

Whats funny is they are also on ebay used for $35.

Less than $2 each for lifetime crowsfeet, I'm in for a set of both, and a bit of filler and maybe I get a free NAPA basketball (quantities limited). I may call the local stores to see who has a ball left.

Looking on napa's site regarding Evercraft, some tools are warrantied others are nor. The price seems to be a big factor on that, the $15 socket site has no warranty but the $25 one does.

Also has anyone seen a good price on the hansen socket trays lately?

Here's some warranty information from a NAPA dealer's website:

http://www.dmauto.com/Pages/About/Warranty/BK/

Scroll down for the Evercraft stuff.

I'll have to check out the store next door when I'm on lunch here in another hour or so. I want that basketball to go with my NAPA football.
