While I keep a NAS box on my network, my iPad is pretty picky about what it pulls from it. Or I'm doing something wrong. I'm not an Apple fan, the iPad was a gift while I was in the hospital when I broke my back last summer. Its a 64GB and 3G that has proven to be far more useful than I thought it would be. Just wish its keyboard was a bit more useful.

Love your radio, have wanted to do something similar with an old console stereo system.

Thanks, man.

Yeah, the iPad has some cool uses, but it also has limits.

I just wrapped up a project that's been put on hold for quite some time because I've been so busy.

Hard to see, but the dart holders are acrylic and flame polished. They were rough cut with a jig saw, cut to final shape with a router, then sanded and flame polished before wet-sanding with 2000 grit. The flame polish isn't necessary, but it removes the buffing process.

Black?

Not keeping the wood finish? :headscrat

I understand the anti-Apple mentality, but there's just SO much stuff that is made for, and can be done with, the Apple stuff. I'm still not willing to purchase an iPad, but I bought an iPod touch ages ago for the wife's F250. The head unit I put in it had an iPod connection so I got one for her.

I also have an older iPod nano in my Jeep. CDs are going the way of the dinosaur and they're just not practical in a dirty, dusty Jeep. Picked up a Fusion marine radio that the iPod fits into - waterproof.

At $99 for AppleTV, and having an iPod I can use with it, I still haven't bought one. Even kept from buying the open item I found at Best Buy for $79. :lol_hitti

Another thing that would help out... Small touchsreen tablets usually don't have much memory. Look into wireless hard drives that will allow you store the media there and stream it to the device.

Thanks, for the the info. I'm going to do a black stain not black paint. honestly i have an ipod but my wife bought it for as a gift. after i finally decided to use it 3 months later i quickly got tired of itunes and the way thye go about running their show.

Careful. An "ebony" stain will turn out absolutely black. Test on some similar scraps first, if you can.

I'm going to use toners on my Zenith before I clear it.

Awesome build. Got any shots of the back of how the TV mounted?

In the below picture you can see two of the four screws that are used to mount the monitor. When I decided to add the monitor I spaced those two pieces of angle iron to be at the right width for the mounting holes in the back of the monitor - notice the layout marks on the top piece of steel. You can also see where I drew an up arrow on the back of the pegboard. I did this so the holes on the back and side walls of the hutch lined up properly with each other. I'm OCD like that. :lol_hitti

After that it was just a matter of careful measuring to get the holes in the proper vertical locations. (photos from post #156 in this thread)

...and the front. Notice that I mounted the monitor as high as it would go. It touches the "ceiling" of the hutch.

Spent some time going through things tonight. Still getting the tools organized between the HF 56" and the HF 5-drawer cart. I think I'm going to sell the Craftsman setup.

Took three pics of how things have been for the past couple of months. I can still park the FJ40 and TJ in the front half of the garage. I use back of this side (FJ side) of the garage for work, and the back of the other side (TJ side) is for storage.

The 56" and hutch. I spent a little time today welding the skin on the right side of the hutch and smoothing the welds down with a Roloc disc.

My trash can (barrel), the kids' box, the HF 5-drawer, and my free air compressor.

It's not much, but it's an update. I'm not too concerned about improving things here anymore since we're moving soon. I'll get things better organized and sorted between now and then.

The big Ford died yesterday. Wife was driving and called me. She was less than a mile from the house. Bought a crankshaft sensor, replaced it, no luck.

Took the big TJ to where she was and flat towed the F250 home. Got some crazy looks. People don't realize it's got a 5.3l, TH350, and 60s under it - they just see a Jeep.

Big Ford in the garage. All of the tools in easy reach. Stayed up until 4AM troubleshooting. Everything pointed to either the IPR or the ICP

This thing was a lifesaver. Brought it home from the shop today and found the ICP was bad. Will get a new one Monday.

Stopped for lunch and fired up the jukebox. Watched part of the UK game on it while we ate.

I'm loving the consolidated work area. Benches to the left, tools to the front and right.

Couldn't sleep tonight so I came out to the garage to sort through some stuff that was here and decide what we're keeping and what is trash.

I've had an old Kenwood SW-300 home theater subwoofer taking up space in the garage since 2007 or so. It started crapping out (sounded like the sub was failing) so I checked the sub at rest, it was good, but in use it popped and crackled. Replaced the Kenwood with a Klipsch and kept this old Kenwood in the garage.

424662_1914444518102_1751610005_927766_157775581_n.jpg

Tore into it tonight and found that a relay was old and failing. Instead of replacing the relay I just hard-wired the circuit so that it would work. I also threw in one of two Pheonix Gold Ti 10" woofers that were given to me as partial payment for the mailbox build. I also threw in a bag of polyfil to cheat the enclosure volume a bit.

Got it all back together and bench tested the fix. Everything worked so I stuck it to the right of the HF 56er. So I'm using the speakers in the hutch for mids and highs and this woofer for low end. The two systems are on two different amplifiers so I had to adjust amp gain for each. I now use the laptop or iPad volume for overall system volume.

Eventually this system will migrate into the '39 Zenith and that will be the garage radio.

Still working on consolidating things in the garage before the move. I took pictures tonight for moving purposes (the big move is less than two months away) so I have them for insurance/inventory purposes. Posted these in the "post your toolbox" thread in General Tool Discussion, but I figured I'd stick it here as well.

My HF 56 and HF 5-drawer cart. I've moved everything from my 41" Craftsman lower, intermediate, and top chest into these and the hutch.

You can pretty much see what's stored on the pegboard. No sense in going into that.
http://sphotos.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/417481_1911163636082_1751610005_926749_351871916_n.jpg

Contents of the HF 56...big drawers first.

Sockets are in the top drawer. All three drive sizes, both inch and metric.

2nd drawer holds wrenches.

3rd drawer has screwdrivers, pry bars, Torx drivers, seal removal tools, and pick sets.

4th drawer has ratchets and extensions. Good bit of empty space here.

5th drawer - air tools.

Bottom drawer is a mix of stuff that has yet to be properly organized.

Now the smaller drawers.

First drawer holds Forstner bits, router bits, drill bit sets, unibits, and a few other random items.

4th has various types of tape.

Top left drawer has some Kobalt wrenches that I picked up on a huge discount due to the Hot Deals thread. I use these when out of town.

Deep drawer on the right holds various measuring tools. The multimeter should probably be here.

And the 2nd holds electrical stuff.

I've shaved my head for years. Can't stand hair on my head.

In the winter this is about as close as I get to having hair.

Ew, PCS. You know, while we never had any huge troubles with ours, even overseas. As I look around at all our junk, and what's in the garage and I'm glad we aren't doing those anymore.

We still find items around the house now and then that have the stickers on them from three moves ago!

Love the socket drawer. It taunts me. Last night I removed my center console in the truck and I was working mostly blind on the nuts underneath. I didn't notice that my sockets weren't fully seated. I rounded the last nut. I needed a midsized socket (the deep was too tall for the area I was working in). I needed a 1/2" drive to use the longer ratchet, but no 1/2" 13m socket. :willy_nil I pulled my hair out for awhile. I finally stacked the big 15/16 combo wrench on the end of the 13mm combo to the nut. "I'm gonna fix this now".

I can honestly say I NEED a new 3/8" dr long handled flex head ratchet. I NEED a new set of 1/2" metric sockets. Let's go shopping! :D

Weird...

I posted images, someone replied, I replied, and now their post is gone. This is the 2nd time this has happened. *shakes head.

I'm looking forward to not having to move every three or so years. We've got this move to Hawaii coming and one move after that - retirement time.

I ended up going to town for a tool I needed and didn't have - a 1 1/4" or 29mm 1/2" drive deep socket. Went to Sears to pick it up because all my other sockets are Craftsman. They didn't have either size, but they DID have stuff on clearance. Wife asked "Are you sure you don't have that size?"

Clearance stuff...I picked up a Cman Pro Torx set a while back that went down to T20. On a recent trip they had T10s for $1.97 so I picked up a couple. One for the T10, another for a handle. Today I found the missing T15 on clearance and bought all three they had on hand.
Got the Knipex for $9, the T15s for $1.07 each with tax, and the 1/2" drive ratchet for $20.

Did a little work to the HF 5-drawer.

Got a 1" deep switch box and cut the brackets off it.
http://sphotos.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/421374_1951247878163_1751610005_941176_776631393_n.jpg

Drilled four holes in the back wall of the box and used a fine Sharpie to locate the box and holes for rivets. Drilled the holes with a 1/8" bit. Since I wanted the power cable to exit through the bottom, I used a Unibit to drill the hole for the power cable.
http://sphotos.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/427015_1951250158220_1751610005_941179_1373166594_n.jpg

Back side. Drill another cable hole from the inside of the cart.
424456_1951251478253_1751610005_941180_344814929_n.jpg

Removed the Sharpie with Goo Gone. Put the liner back in place and trimmed it with a knife.
http://sphotos.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/418495_1951252598281_1751610005_941182_393984343_n.jpg

Riveted the box to the back wall of the cart and ran power cable.
418006_1951258358425_1751610005_941184_1658357083_n.jpg

Wired the outlet, installed the cover, and wired a plug on the other end.
429374_1951263278548_1751610005_941185_1669832996_n.jpg

Now I can leave the DeWalt charger in the cart and clear up space on the hutch. I also have a Belkin unit that has two USB outlets so I can charge the phone or iPods.
424329_1951269478703_1751610005_941186_1164226419_n.jpg

The grommets I got weren't the right size. I'll have to get two new grommets tomorrow and put those in the two holes for the power cable.

More organizing of all the ****.

Hope this layout works after the move.
http://sphotos.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash2/64784_1957029622703_1751610005_943481_765565175_n.jpg

Hard to tell, but I also spent some time today cutting some aluminum trim for the hutch.

Hope to get it painted and get it trimmed out so it has more of a finished look. The raw metal stands in stark contrast to the red roller.

Just a thought... If you go to the box store (HD, Lowes, ...) look in the electrical area for the metal connectors that wire runs through (I forget the name).

Trimming the hutch with aluminum. After I have everything assembled and the upper pieces trimmed to fit, I'll drill out the rivets and prep/prime/paint the sides before I reassemble the trim.

Picked up a gloss red side cabinet that's sold for the 41" roller and stuck it on my 56". Hope to get a 2nd one for the right side.

Also got the hutch stripped so I can prime/paint it.

What's in the locker for now - all the clearance shop towels from Home Depot. Four rows deep.

Thanks, guys.

Got the hutch primed and painted Saturday. I didn't bother getting the surface glass smooth, just the same quality of smoothness as the HF unit.
http://sphotos.**.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/427028_1989574516305_1751610005_956844_1774064375_n.jpg

I let it cure for a few hours then assembled it once again. The Sunrise Red was a hair darker than the stock paint, but it'll do. Very little of the sides will be seen with the lockers on each side - I'm planning on a 2nd locker for the right - and the Bose 201s will go on top of each locker.

Hard to tell, but I also spent some time today cutting some aluminum trim for the hutch.

Hope to get it painted and get it trimmed out so it has more of a finished look. The raw metal stands in stark contrast to the red roller.

That thing is sweet.

It's going to be a shame to let it sit for three years while we're in Hawaii. Can't ship a non-running vehicle to the island. Dudes at the dock won't touch them if they don't run. Just as well, the money that I'd spend on shipping can be put to use getting the parts I want.

Looks awesome dude !!

Thanks. It has changed since that pic. I'll have to get a current pic when I get the final piece of the storage puzzle.

Thanks man. I can't wait to go pick up the car. Just wish I could work on it once I get it home.

That move is a BIG reason everything is coming together. Get stuff even more consolidated and thinned out before the move and get the stuff I plan to keep properly stored. I figure if I get it done now it'll simplify things in the new (and no doubt smaller) garage.

I may have missed this somewhere along the line, but where are you moving to? Good reason to consolidate and organize though.

Must be tough to downsize after having such a kick *** garage. Lucky for me I am starting with a 1-car so the only way I go is up!

Wife and I met in the military. She's still in and the military is moving us to Hawaii for three years. Since only one of us is in the military, they will only ship one vehicle. Any additional vehicle we'd have to pay to ship at about $2,100 per vehicle - one way.

I figure between shipping a vehicle there and back, I'll have an additional $4,200 in a vehicle and to me, it just doesn't make sense to do that.

As for the garage, I'm planning on having a single car. Not sure what we'll get there as far as a garage (on post housing), but we've been told we'll have either a one or two car. Considering the two-car I have here is deep enough to park two Jeeps on one side, I know we'll have having a smaller garage - even if it's a two car.

The down-sizing is good, though. Forcing us to eliminate even more clutter.

Let my daughter (10) drive the big TJ before it's gone. She loved it.
