I am new here, great forum lots of craftsmanship. I built a new house 2 years ago, and put up a 28'x36' versatube building for a shop. Afterfact I wish I would have done pole barn because metal is a pain in the :shocking: to work with. Any how I have to live it while I am building it. So far I have done 1/2 the walls, using 5 -1/4 deck board lagged horizontally from floor up to 8' on 2' centers then OSB ply. I built a full loft across the back 4'x28' and a a 2'x16'shelf down the other finished wall. I have 200amp service and plan on doing all exposed conduit after walls/ ceiling are done. I left the area open behind my walls and plan on blowing cavities with insulation. I am still undecided with roof insulation, I have too much stuff to work around now for foam spray, I just don't have a plan yet. I plan on using vinal/composite tile for floor in a 2'black white checker board with a 2'gray boarder. I have a 80k furnace and also plan on a Utube mounted on a 45 or a couple panel heaters as well. here are some pics

NE N. Carolina.

I love it as well, 2400sq ft house, 1800 down 600 up, and 1200sq ft of deck.

took me 10 months to complete, if there is a next one it will be a turn key job. the only thing I sub'd was roof and siding.

Very nice! What height did you have to make the door in order to get the boat to fit into the garage.

the door is a 12'H X 16'W. I had the my door man run the track up to the ceiling which is 14', that way I had a full 12' opening. With my Radar ontop I have literally 2'' of room left comming through the door. Funny story and lesson learned, my stern light folds down and is up on the t-top, it's been replaced once or twice.

Your house and garage look good. You probably considered a tube-frame building by Carolina Carports (or similar company); why did you choose a VersaTube building?

at the time it looked like a great option for a reasonable price. It was meant just for a boat house and shop so to speak not a finished garage. I have plans for a nother 28x36 attached with room above for my ''Dog House'' but cash is not right.

I like the versa tube structure, I have added many strengthening modifications to roof, wall's and the foundation was made for a timber frame construction. I am happy with it.

If I had it to do all over, it would be 8x8's and a pole barn

thanks for the compliments, 9 months of about 100hr work weeks between work and building the house.

Yeah, I don't think I have heard anyone say that building a house is a quick job. :) Versatube, on the other hand, suggests that you might build one of their garages in a weekend (if the slab is ready). I suspect that's a little optimistic. Do you have an idea how many days you spent on your boat house? I have been comparing Versatube buildings to other tube framed buildings and many companies include installation in the price.

You were right the first time, it's a Carolina Carport job. The building was $7K and it was done in day. I did the crete work and subed the door. I have $12k in the total building. I went extra on the footing's being plans called for 12''x12'' footing, I went 24''x24'' mono slab so I would have footing for in the future I would put a different structure ontop.

I took 5/4 deck horizontally from floor to 8ft on 2' centers and power nailed to the walls, then ply, I also did the L with 2x4's on either side of the center upright to the ridge, like they do for truss roofs. It's as solid now as any stick built structure. I really have a hard time understanding how much money someone paid to get these approved for Hurricane 135mph wind level as it was built.
