n00b Build - Mustang Mansion

Sorry for the long intro. Been lurking for a while and meant to post from the beginning but life has been crazy lately (in a good way).

I had to get a variance from the city. On a lot my size the code only allows for ~1285 sq ft. I had originally planned to build a 50x60x18, but after doing a LOT of research on past variance requests I was fairly certain that 3000' was not going to fly, so I scaled back to 40x50x12 (12' being the highest code would allow; one less battle to fight).





Here is a cut/paste from a local forum. Feel free to comment. I have pretty thick skin

Thought I would start a build thread for my shop. Builder is supposed to start today (10/28) or Monday. It will be a fully insulated 40x50x12 with 2 10x12 overhead doors, a walk-through door, and 4 windows. I will be installing a lift as well. Depending on available space once I get everything in it I may try to build out part of it into a man cave of some sort. I am having it plumbed for a 3/4 bath. Down the road I hope to have heat and maybe even a little a/c


Thinking about something like this for the floor:

Dug the footing today...

Sand and rebar done. Inspection in the morning and concrete Friday at 9 AM

Got home from work to find this...

Ground was SUPER soft. The first truck sunk the back wheels about 12 inches!!!

My neighbors must be SO happy for me :doh2:

Getting a little frustrated with the slow progress. Last week the weather was awesome and I think they were only here two days. Nothing Monday (holiday). Got home Tuesday and all the trusses had been unstacked and laid out, but that was it as far as I could tell. Then I get a call early this morning (01/04) asking me to move the car off the drive so the crane could get by. think the crane was there less than an hour.

If anyone is good with photoshop I'm trying to decide on window(s) placement...

I definitely wanted a 50x60, but I think this will get me by.

Got a door!!! As far as I can tell all the frame work is done. The "right" end and door were done yesterday. Hopefully get it skinned this next week.

Back to it today (01/23). Pics from this afternoon. The front still looks about the same but they finished the back.

So the brick has been done for a few weeks. They came Thursday to put the roof on it and after putting up about 3' of it, apparently fell and hurt his back. He was trying to use scaffolding and needs a scissor lift. Here are some brick pics. Turned out really nice.

Yeah he was really giving be a beating. I was very fortunate to get all three votes. Two were absent so I HAD to have all three. I crossed my i's and dotted my t's beforehand so I was as prepared as I could be.

Great looking garage so far, but man, you have some nasty dirt. I take it maybe somewhere like Georgia? That's going to take some serious powerwashing to get it off of everything.

What do you do to plant grass? Just till it and seed? I would think with all the work around there the dirt would be packed like concrete.

To plant grass we buy a load of topsoil and cover it with Bermuda sod

Yep. Bone stock. Going back with a 4x(k) mile salvage motor, EGR delete, full exhaust with DPF and DOC delete, CAI and tune.

I was looking at your build thinking, that's big for a Mustang and maybe one other car. Wow, nice collection, now I know why you need a building that size.

Put some big sticks in that thing, get a decent tune and you'll be a happy man. You can make huge power with little effort with a 6.4 Check out powerstrokearmy.com for all the best power stroke lovin!

Lift is wired now just waiting on a pulley and hydraulic line that disappeared in storage/transport. Should be functional by mid-week. Compressor is next to be bolted down and then need to run air lines. Should be a fun summer
