Jcpenney tool set and 60's Craftsman flathead

I thought you guys might like these. First up is a craftsman screwdriver that belonged to my great grandfather on my mom's side.






I don't know if you can make it out, but it says: Forged WF.


The tip looks good for a 50 year old screwdriver.

Is there a way to date this screwdriver? My father has some other older Craftsman laying around and they have what looks like a serial number with an 87 at the end. I'm guessing he bought those in 87. This screwdriver has no discernible numbers on it that I can see.

And here is a Jcpenney tool set that I believe my father said he bought in the 70's or early 80's. I'm really curious as to who made it.

Nice JC Penney set you have there. The ratchet was bade by SK so I would guess the rest of the set was as well.

Screwdriver was Western Forge and WF made tools for Sears from 64 to date.

How wide is the tip? In 66/68 they only had it in 1/4 or 1/2 in 12" long. In 73, it was 1/4 and 3/8 for 12" long.

It has a 1/2 inch tip.

I have the same JCPenney rachet and a set of SAE Penncraft sockets and wrenches. Got them in the mid 70's. They are very good tools.

Very interesting. I've seen New Britain-made "Penncraft" tools, but not the (apparently) SK-made "JCPenney" tools. Is that the original ratchet for that kit? The different branding is curious, plus the sockets and the knurled-handle breaker bar look more New Britain than SK to me.

Of course, I'm probably overthinking this. Cool tools!

Curious are your sockets & breaker bar marked Penncraft or JC Penney? I`m sure the ratchet is part of the orginal set.

I have the ratchet with metric sockets in a 3/8 kit in a blue mental box. It`s SK. My older Penncraft stuf is New Brit ( late 60s).
