Just meant to be slang. Good job digging it up!
Came across this for sale locally, a Studebaker hydraulic vise, apparently used in conjunction with a foot pump to supply hydraulic oil. Supposedly like new, in storage for 50 years, asking $200

Looks like a No. 4 to me LOL. Nice resto, like the old lettering on that one!

I'm watching this one go on fleabay now - an amazing piece of iron:

8 1/2" jaws and 260 lbs. Whomever scores this beast must share photos.

The vise has a piece broken off the casting. More than I'd ever pay.

I agree 2000 is pretty steep but the guy probably just had to have it! I missed the broken piece, good eyes. I picked up the same model 58 last Nov at a sale. It is a big vise but a reed 208 would be a better choice. Gj member Joepickens has a newer version that weighs in at 305#. That is what I thought I was buyig when I got this one. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showpost.php?p=542494&postcount=33 Here is the link

Where on earth did you take the third picture? I need to go to that place and buy every vise on the shelves
I would love to have another huge Prentiss vise but i wouldn't want to deal with the hassle and cost of shipping such a huge chunk of metal across the US
I picked this from scraps at work a few years ago. They were throwing it away because one of the 4 mounts broke off. I'm going to refurbish it in a few weeks.
