We are about to launch GearWrench Spline ratcheting wrenches and are making one last decision. To distinguish these from regular ratcheting wrenches we're going with gold or silver plating on the gear. You be the judge. Please take a look and vote in the poll above!

I prefer the gold. i think it stands out better. However, if there's huge difference in production cost, go with the cheaper option.

What other new Gearwrench tools are coming?

The gold stands out better but I prefer the look of the silver. Are these going to be comparable to the SK spline that works on the 4, 6 and 12 point, spline and torx fasteners?

Sounds good. You should look into sponsoring garagejournal. Great to have some manufacturers available on here.

GearWrench Brand, could you give us a little background as to what your role is at GearWrench? Are you a sales rep, involved in design, engineering, etc.???

Just wondering

Yes - we do engineering, design, and brand management. All new products come through our team as well as management for existing products.

Thanks for your interest!

I like the gold look better. I think I would prefer having them come in black oxide but I suppose this is a good way to distingish them.

I voted for gold, only because I think it will stand out a bit more.

I also think that it is a great idea to be polling the public on this matter. I wonder, how many people have you pitched this inquiry to? The reason I am asking is because only 10% of the thread viewed resulted in a vote. That is indicative of a large number of guest "lurkers" who do not have voting or othe member priviliges.

If you want many more people to offer their input, you could offer a set of the new wrenches (or something similar) to a lucky voter who also offers a brief comment about what steered their choice.

I own some of gearwrench sets. After use a lot, the black gears become to little silver which it just normal. so my opinion is go with silver so it will not wear the color out after daily use...

Wilbilt--I would bet on either Taiwan or China since the rest of the Gearwrench stuff seems to be made their. I would hope Taiwan.
Didn't someone start a thread about the Gearwrench standard ratcheting wrenches being made in China?

That would be my assumption as well, but I'd like to hear it from the source. It might be nice to be able to bend the ear of an offshore manufacturer.

I voted gold, simply because I like the contrast. Silver on Silver just looks weird.

Any chance of a "demo" wrench for the loyal GearWrench fans on Garage Journal? :D :D :D

Edited to add: It's cool to see you folks here! I hope you'll stay around and provide input from the Danaher/GearWrench perspective.

Proto's spline ratchet wrench has a silver gear ring, but since the body is black chrome there wouldn't be any confusion.

I'd like to suggest that you plate the gear ring hot pink, and package them in colorful Easter baskets. Just a suggestion from your friendly competitor...

We've got lots of new stuff coming - mostly in September/October. You'll hear about it here first!

Good to hear it. I've been checking gearwrench.com's 'New Products' in vain, since the last new products posted were Summer 2006.

Gold for metric, silver for standard. SO does that with their socket drivers. I like that.

The sets I currently own have the black gear ring. I would like to see the silver gear rings on the new tools.

It is required that I have a complimentary test set in both colors for test trials before making my final decision on color preferences.

Please PM me for shipping details.

These wrenches are Made in Taiwan in Danaher owned plants which allows us to maintain the same quality standards we set in all Danaher manufacturing facilities.

Hope that helps!

Thanks!

Thanks for that.

One more question, if you don't mind. Do the wrenches say "Made in Taiwan" on them? I know the Armstrong brand is marked "USA", but I am curious about the GearWrench Spline version.

In all reality, I cant expect the gearwrench brand wrenches, when they sell them on sale for $35 at sears for an 8 piece set, to be made in the USA. They are one of the few asian made tools in my box, but the quality is very good IMO, and every once in a while I "sell out"!

Im impressed that Mr. Gearwrench brand has been honest and forthcoming, that is a great sign. His communications seem more up front and honest than recent communications from several of the other big tools names in recent discussions (matco, proto)

No, it will not actually be stamped on the product itself, but all of our packaging will have the country of origin on it.
