Added Pics to mystery tool

Ok, I added pictures,

Old barrel type ratchet tool that measures 10 1/2" total lenght. The top has a brown wooden knob attached with four screws. The working end has a slotted bit held in with one four sided bolt. I can find no makers marks.

Not sure what this is for. Anyone?? Before I open this up to see what gearing is inside.

I added another picture, this side as a threaded end that must have attached to another handle to rotate the working end.

I recently had an oil tank that had a 1 1/2" round threaded cover. It required a tool with an end that resembled a flat bladed screwdriver with a 1/4 round end about 3/4"-1" wide to remove it. The tool needed to have a rather large area/handle to apply pressure to unscrew it. I made something extremely close to this tool to remove that cap. Unfortunately I don't have any photos because I gave the tool away with the oil tank. So my guess is....it's a specialized screwdriver!

What does the push button do? Does anything on the tool rotate or better yet reverse rotation when the button is pushed?

The "bit" would engage a slot in the valve face, so that a twisting action on the knob would rotate it against the seat?

Learn me something, not that it ain't so but, what type of engine has valves with a slot in them? I've had many types of engines apart and never seen one. Really...

I thought of a valve lapping tool as well, but the only ones I have seen had a suction cup interface for the valve...

Most of the older crank valve lappers came with a flat blade with two prongs on it. Modern valves with smooth faces require a suction cup.

I have seen valves that had both slots and two holes in the head of the valve. Old Dodge flathead was one with the holes as I recall.. I just never knew what the holes/slots were for...

What exactly ratchets? or, id the "pin" on the side turns, what happens on the business end? Does it rotate, or does it "agitate" like a washing machine? (Rotate one way a bit, then the other?)

Valve lapping tool, should use some form of a planetary gear system that reverses its self every couple of rotations. The knob on top lets you lean into your work. Nice one.
