Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Decided since it was a bit of a slow day...(I work at home) that I'd go down to the garage and change the oil in the Lincoln. It went easily, so I figured the RT/10 was also due and I'd get that done too.

What a f-in project. Got the old oil out...removed the filter...but could not find a route to remove it from the car. The '96 RTs have the Gen 1 engine and Gen 2 suspension...the only Vipers with this combo. I tried the trick of jacking the car off the RF wheel to sneak the filter over the lower control arm to no avail. After well over an hour I was able to remove the two brackets that retain an A/C line to the frame and pull that line far enough to just squeek the filter by. I seem to remember it was this big of an effort last time, too. I only change the oil once a year in that car...so I had forgotten what a pain it was. I need to look into slightly adjusting the A/C line or perhaps the motor mounts are starting to go. Ah...more to research...at least there's no rush now.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Went down in bushes and hauled a complete POS pipe, ladder rack out.

Took portaband,4 1/2 angle grinder and mig.....and wacked the chit out of it.Decent enough fishmouths(dang quickly),flux-core.....and "fixture on the fly engineering.

'07 F150....the one with sm back dr and a 6 1/2 ft bed.

Some might call it a ladder rack....I call it my redneck RV.Did a very nice design job on it.The silhouette looks like a "lower'd" slide on camper from back in the day.Got just the right amt of fwd/bkwd angle on top bar.

Gonna get it all buttoned up today........got a bow tourney coming up this w/end and we need it.But once its back here at the shop,we'll be accessorizing.....Doing telescoping awnings, and some trick bits for raising the whole thing(way more headroom).BW

*I hate flux-core but it does good on some things........

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

great idea I'm going to use this one.

If i said it was an obvious thing to do I would be lying. I just happened to look at some old curtain rod in the corner (~1/2" tubing) and it struck me as some awesome rail for peghooks. just a 5/32" hole through one wall and slipped that over some J shaped peg hooks on each end.

Felt really good about this this as Ive used 1 length of 10 curtain rods that have been moved and re-stored many times in hope of a good use.

EDIT: something for you all to laugh at me for. I had 4 5' fluorescent tubes sitting on the bench just below all this (should have known better to move them out of harms way). Of course i try and move the rails up a hole with the vice grips still on and the large pair with the rubber grip has to snap off and smash 2 of them. They weren't even burnt out :-( .

Finished building up the replacement for my cracked Gary Fisher frame. Ugly spare parts bike but it gets the job done:

Old frame. Cracked right above the weld which is unfortunately common for that frame:

Still cleaning and organizing slowly after selling one of my cars. I am taking delivery of another project car this week so I really need to get moving on getting a space cleared for it.

Can't wait to try it out. Still getting over pneumonia so it has been sitting there. Drivetrain is actually a 1x10 (on a budget...x9 shifter, x7 short cage, and the cheapest cassette I could find). I was running the other frame as a singlespeed and sold off all the 3x9 stuff.

Need to rotate the chain ring 90-degrees. Didn't realize there were cut outs that should be positioned behind the crank arm.

What's the black thing where the front derailler would normally go? I've been out of the bike wrenching business for 26 years...

It is a Paul Component chain guide. Since I am only running a single ring up front and don't have a front derailleur this little guy keeps the chain from falling off. There are a few other methods to get it done but I really like the Paul part since it is fabricated in the US.

Installed my "new" Flott Bench Drilling Machine. Greased bearings in main spindle, oiled, cleaned and tested it:

Just acquired a bunch of Snap-on and Craftsman wrenches/sockets that had a little rust on them. I cleaned them up and they look practically new! This was a 3 day process, but I'm finally finished!

Since its a 1x set up the orientation of the chainring doesn't matter functionally. That small tab is normally there to align the shifting ramps and teeth on multiple front rings. That said, my OCD says you better align that chainring properly.

I removed the seats from my A4 to clean and relube the seat rails. The end result is great, but I can't decide whether I love or hate the VW rails-in-the-car type mounting arrangement. It seems a lot easier to unbolt seats rails and all...

Nice looking paint job you got there. Is there a colored fleck in the black paint or just the standard silver fleck?

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Finished wiring in four 15A 120V receptacles on the wall above the workbench. Finally have power that doesn't require an extension cord. Proceeded to clean a crapload of sockets I picked up at the pawn shop today. Probably about 50% Craftsman, but some truck brands, a handful of Protos, and even three old Powr-Krafts in the mix.

We got the first 15 feet of the garage racedeck flooring done. Now to move all the heavy stuff to the finished side to do the other side. Then move all the heavy stuff back to the other side again.

There are no ramps on this ring (it is a single). Rotating it to put the stronger parts of the ring without the cutouts to help avoid damaging the ring on log overs and whatnot since I'm not running a bash guard. I didn't even realize there were cutouts on the ring until someone pointed it out to me. I am usually pretty good about that sort of thing but I missed it.

Adding fencing onto gate to keep the sheep out. The farmers next door allowed me to move the fence at the side to give me easier access to the back bay.

Another use for a BB Chev head.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

This is what I did today. I extended the worktop with some extra wood pieces I had lying around and added the black pegboard. The Yamaha receiver and Polk Audio speakers weren't doing any good in the attic, so I decided to put them out here.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Installed a brand new (reman'd) clutch master cylinder in a 90 Probe GT a couple weeks ago, wouldn't bleed at the slave. In fact, wouldn't even drip out of the hard line to the slave when I removed it.

Today I got around to pulling the line off at the clutch master and no fluid came out there either! Guess that's what I get for not bench bleeding it prior to install as I'd have found out about this then instead of after fighting with it to get it installed.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I installed 1/2" thick high density rubber matting on top of my tool box and on top of the work bench where all my power tools are installed. It's great stuff; very tough, hard, easy to clean, lessens vibrations from the tools and it looks nice too. Kind of made my shop smell like a new tire storeroom but that's not necessarily a bad smell. For my needs this makes an excellent work surface.

I managed to finally get the passengers side exhaust manifold off of the Vette yesterday. Now to get the cat off of the dam brace then to start the driver's side.

Not much today, re-installed the frontend on my lawnmower, restrung the string trimmer and swept the floor. Oh and bought light bulbs for the fixture that still needs to be hung over my tool box.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Let's see, built a shelf over the window for my ATV gear - this will give me some space near my tool box for peg board and stuff. Used ideas from here of course.

Made an ornamental fish for my daughter and finished off the shelf I made made her from a re-purposed pallet. Re-used one section of left over pallet for stacking gardening supplies etc behind the garage.

I still have some finishing to do on the arts & crafts.

I also dug up some old trailer lights and will figure out a way to wire them up around the shelf of ATV stuff...kind of like some folks did with stop lights, front grilles or whatever. That wall needs some light too, so I will figure something out for that.

Oh, and I fed the skeeters. They seem to enjoy "Outlander delight".
