Here's a teaser. Will post more when I get the chance. This is a family friends, and working for him has been the only sort of job I've been able to find for the summer break from college (The University of Kansas for chemical engineering and pre-med, Rock Chalk! The owner is also a KU grad).

P.S. this does not include the house

It's just called "a lot of additions" But I kinda like it, and it puts food on the table right? I'd build the ultimate abortion if it put food on the table

This building is an expansion off of the original 2 car garage to the right (24x36). Located behind that is a workshop area that is (24x40). To the left of the covered breezeway is a (33x60) area used for storing the 36 foot enclosed trailer, tractor, mower, etc. To the left of the large bays is a covered pad that goes back the length of the building where there are 2 additional open trailers.
Currently there is a list of work to be done including insulating the workshop, installing pegboard everywhere for storage, building a workbench, installing cabinets, building and installing a sliding barn door to separate the old garage from the workshop. Later projects include benches or cabinets in the back of the long bays, and insulation. There are also many landscaping things for the property on the list, as well as some work in the house to do. I'm thankful that the owner has given me (and my brother) this opportunity.
Ok, now on to the good stuff.. Pictures!

Another view from the front.

An old willys that we pulled out of the long bay. The owner bought it sight unseen and it needs alot more work than he expected. He said that he has 4 or 5 working jeeps on his farm 4 hours away.

Best picture of I could get of the 36' monster that the owner generously shared with my family to help us move a year and a half ago. I now live 3 hours away so when I'm working, I'm staying in a spare bedroom at the house.

The tractor which was very useful for moving the cabinets also seen. The cabinets will be used in the main shop and probably in the back or the long garage as well. They were stored outside on the farm for a time so we need to clean and paint them and get rid of old animal homes in some drawers. I believe they are all 18 gauge metal, and the were saved from the landfill by the owner when he lived near Washington DC. They are very solid and commercial strength. (well probably not to the extent of Jack Olsen of course)

Between these 2 doors is access to the breezeway entrance. There are a few shelves for tool storage to the left.
dscn1325h.jpg

This is the main workshop. The owner was talking about getting the black and white tile for the floor, but based on this forum i've been trying to sell him on ceramic or porcelain tile, but I still need to learn more about that/get some additional input.

Here you can see some of the insulation work. He wanted furring strips and pegboard to go on top. The area from the left window to under the stairs will be a workbench that still needs to be designed. Under the stairs will go a 2hp dust collection system connected to a radial arm saw that will be integrated into the bench. To the right of the air return will be all cabinets.

The door seen here was improperly installed and will need to be removed and properly shimmed. Also the 26' scissor lift has been very helpful to have around.
dscn1328i.jpg

This is the connection to the old garage. A sliding barn door is on the to do list.
dscn1329z.jpg

F250 for towing the big trailer. Currently loaded with the entire stock of pegboard from lowes.
dscn1331y.jpg

Here's a hidden gem that I want to get my hands on at some point.. Just need to convince the owner to let me dig it out, and polish it up! I'll let you guys take a stab at what it is 1st though before I put more.
dscn1332c.jpg

This is the old office in the old garage. Bathroom is to the left. This man has one of everything it seems, but needs some help on the organization front.
dscn1336x.jpg

One of the 1st jobs I tackled was getting this F150 going. It was leaking oil of some sort all over the long garage's floor, but I got it going. We needed the get the trucks legal because my brothers cavalier just wasn't going to cut it on parts runs.
dscn1337w.jpg

Here's a few shots of the upstairs storage area. There is a connecting passageway that will get a door to separate the workshop from the long bays for hvac purposes. My camera died before I could get any pics of the long one, and I don't feel like messing with my phone pics right now.

Ok that's all for now. Enjoy!

yeah, what's up with the porch. I'm not that tall, but I'm sure I'd have to duck under it lol

Well I don't quite understand the porch myself, but it gets the job done. Maybe that was as flat as the builder was willing to go or something for drainage purposes? I fit well enough at 6'5" except at the very lowest end. Hit the roof with wood a ton though when we moved the chop saw out to keep the dust away

What will you be doing? Working on vehicles or outfitting the garage?

Mainly outfitting the garage. The addition is only about 2 years old I believe, but the owner works alot and hasn't had much time to get it set up yet. That's where I come in. Hired me to take care of that so when he's free he can do what he wants! He call's it his play house.

It's just called "a lot of additions" But I kinda like it, and it puts food on the table right? I'd build the ultimate abortion if it put food on the table

Well just one addition. Originally the breezeway was designed for outside storage or mowers and there was going to be a gate on the end, but that plan changed. The roof in the back on top is a 3 or 4 foot wide walkway to access the upstairs storage space of the long bays.

I have been in Olathe, KS in my 56. Some people I know live in that area.

Now, about that Willys.... Did he get it up close to Springfield, MO (Miller I think is the name)?

If so my brother and I looked at it. I know right where it was sitting...next to an old two story building (used to be a hotel, post office, and general store) that sells truck parts on route 66.

We looked and decided it was way to far gone for us to mess with.

'67 or '68 Mustang Fastback is my guess too.

What the heck does the owner do that all of that garage is his playhouse? Woodworking, cars, or just a little of everything?

Side stripe and door/fender scallop makes it look like a 68 coupe to me. Not a fastback, look at the rear glass and truck. Not a 67, scallop would have that little insert with the fins in it.

LOL - I'd want to see the quote to re-roof that place. Yeoow.

Gonna have to agree on the 68 Mustang Coupe. Looks like some quarter damage on the scallop too.

So, where is this house? Lawrence or Olathe?

Looks like a good project for you guys, get yourselves organized and put a plan together, don't just go at it willy nilly.

Put together a check list and as each part is finished, check it off - that way you and he will see the progress being made. It will also help you not miss anything important.

It's gonna be a hot summer too......

And where's his farm? a four hour drive in any direction except west from either Lawrence or Olathe takes you well out of Kansas.

If someone could **** up roof design, this takes the cake. I'm sure it works, though.

That has got to be one of the ugliest conglomeration of roof and garage parts to ever grace this website. :headscrat
