I have an old Williams S-52 and I need the screw that retains the forward/reverse selector. Does anyone a) have one, or b) know the screw size so I buy one? I think it's a slotted head rather than Phillips.

I spoke with Williams (Snap On) and they couldn't give me the screw size. Thank you for the replies. If anyone has one of these ratchets with the screw and can give me the size, etc., I'd appreciate it.

Old thread I know, but for future lookers, the screw is 8-32. Little less than 3/8" long. I had to cut mine down today...mine was lost as well, and I bought a hex one from Ace Hardware. I also used a proper sized metric washer that fit on top of the selector switch as well, as it was MIA.

Hey, not to thread-jack this discussion too much, but I've got a J.H. Williams H-50 3/4" ratchet that has the "ring nut" as described by a previous poster (attached a pic with a Williams torque wrench that has a similar set up) and also has some sort of a "drain plug" looking thing off one side below the ratchet head.

Does anyone know how to take that nut off or what kind of a wrench to use to do it? Sounds silly, but I'm not even sure what to google to look for something.

The wrench is in good condition, but I have a suspicion that it has never been serviced, so I want to take it apart and clean/grease it properly, but Can't do that until I figure out how to get it apart...

Thanks for any ideas/help!

a pin spanner might work. check with a bicycle mechanic, show them the lock ring and they will know what you are talking about

Ahhh, bicycle shop. Didn't even think about that. Thanks for the tip. At least I have a name to start searching off of. Never heard of a pin spanner before, but will give it a shot.

Strange that the side screw would only access the pawl. I would think you would be equally likely to strip that or the interior (big) gear....

Thanks!

Turns out HF no longer sells the adjustable pin wrench... back to square 1.

Going to try ebay for something that will hopefully fit and is robust enough to apply enough torque to get the faceplate off without damaging it...

Hmmm, I rigged up a ghetto version of a pin wrench, but the "ring nut" wouldn't budge. Couldn't get a enough torque applied to it with the home made version.

It did just occur to me that it was possibly reverse threaded though... was yours standard thread?

The manager at the local HF told me that they no longer stock it in store and that she wasn't seeing it replenished in the warehouse. It is on their website though so I may give it a shot and see if they actually send it.

Thx!
