Great use of space. I love the cabinets above the garage door. How do you like having the chain fall verses an engine hoist?

If you have a minute, please show some details of your bike clamp on your lift. I have the same lift.

Also, now that you have had them a while, how is your VCT holding up, and what have you done to protect it?

Thanks Jim, I'll have to wait until I get home to show the lift. The floor is holding up well. The car moved two tiles right after I put it in. There is now a small gap there. The floor was cleaned this spring with the floor scruber from work. Then coats of wax (Armstrong) and polished. Not as shiney as I'd like it.

Thats how my walls changed color just decided to go out and paint.

How big of a garage do have?

My garage is 22 x 29.

Thanks The chain fall was free. Would have to buy an engine hoist. I've never really used one. Always a chain on a gib crane or an A-frame crane thats what I grew up with.

I'm realizing now that I have too much stuff in my place to be able to do something like that. Let alone have wall space for posters. I am now committed to either thinning the accumulation or finding more creative storage ideas to free up wall space.

I noticed you used recessed lighting for the main lights. How well do they do for you? Do they put down enough light? Anything you would do different a second time around? I ask because I have a simalar sized garage (21 x 33) and have been kicking around the idea of recessed lighting, but don't think I can get enough lumens/sq ft.

I'm finding out that stuff just kind of shows up if you have room. Theres a lot more out here than when I first started. I need to build a shed (small pole barn) for all the lawn equipment and extra tools. That's were the stock pile will be also. I'm also always thinking of new ways to store stuff. This is my 1st garage but I had been planning for quite some time.

The light is alright. I am using CFL spot bulbs. I really like not having anything but the cages hanging from the ceiling. A do over, I would change the grid from 12 to 16 lights. That requires 2 breakers because 12 was the recommended max. The type of bulb you use makes a big difference.

Hmmm...I don't think I would have ever thought of putting lights UNDER the bench (except as accent lighting to look purdy). Cool Idea...I got some rope lights at a fabulous price, which may now have a new home, thanks to that idea.

So Tripp, what's been going on lately in Tripp's Garage? Anything been added to the other cool stuff that you've done?

Just putting catch up pics up. The mill is done for now. The lower quill nut stripped the spindle. The first pic is the old one. I plugged the spindle rebored it for 2.25 x 20 thread. Made a new nut from tool steel. Its good as new.

These are the new work lights. I've been using brigdeports for years now and everytime the light is on the wrong side or doesn't work at all. This is my solution.

While I was have the arms cut I sheared out a stainless steel tray. This thing took a little time to weld together. Since everything is running good we slapped the drill press vise on and started making chips. First cut in I defiantly need a bigger vise. But it worked for quite some time that way.

Forgot one, most of the small ball handles were either vise gripped or missing. New ones were made.

Here a fun one. This is the big brother to the drill press vise. Its taken me the last 4 months to build.

Last pics for tonight. My uncle gave me a craftsman 10 inch contractor saw. It was missing the legs both table leafs, the wiring was real shaky. As with all tools that come home with me it got fixed.

Started a new little project tonight. Adding a router station to the saw. So I have a picture during the layout. All I did was square up the ends of my pieces, tomorrow I should be able to get them all sized up.

I just discovered this thread and would like to offer one more name suggestion: "Poncho's Villa" ...I can hear the groans now.

BTW--I have a twin to the oak toolbox that sometimes shows up in your pictures, it is a toolbox designed for watchmaking tools and parts. Mine was from my late paternal grandfather who as one of his hobbies liked to refurbish vintage timepieces.

I went back through this complete thread from the beginning AGAIN. Tripp....I must say that your garage is one of the Top 10, well let's say the "Top 5" spectacular garages on Garage Journal.

I think what I like so much about it is the use of everything, yet it's not all bunched up and jammed together where you can't get around. And the red cabinets with the lights are just super looking. I know that when I read something new on your thread, I usually start back at page 1 and go through the complete thread to get caught up!!!

Glad you stopped buy. I wish I had pictures of that saw whan I got it. Regrinding the top I think is what makes it look so good again. There is a small spot buy the miter channel that has the original finish (rust) left as a witness mark.

Thanks you. I do think Tripp's Garage is the name that going to stick. Not that the car wouldn't mind. The toolbox is a Gershner journeymans machinist chest. I wish this box had been passed down. My great grandfather was a lathe hand. I do have some of his tools starret inside mic, j slocomb micrometers, and some wrenches. My dad ended up with his toolbox its an old Kennedy.

A little further along on my saw project. I cut the plate that the router bolts up to. I guess this is the bonus of my job. I cut in a CNC just need to finish transferring screw holes here. I hope tomorrow I will have most of this done so it can be painted.

Here is my small move forward on my saw project. I still need to transfer the holes from the extension. Then transfer all the hole for the stainless top. It lines up really good with the extension should have no trouble moving the rip fence over to it.



I'm also looking to replace my tanker desk with a full on drafting/light table. I like the vintage ones with the cast legs that are very adjustable. But the prices are quite high and with all the planned projects around the house they are not an option. I drew this out today. Let me know what you think.

Like the idea and look of your Harbor Freight dolly wood storage rack. Have a couple plain HF dolly's around my shop. Would you mind explaining or showing a picture of the dolly w/o wood on it so we can see your support structure for the wood racks? Thought about trying to engineer myself but have been so impressed with your work, I thought it better too ask the expert. Thanks...Ray
