Sailing's been mediocre except for this. It's a like new 400 watt, 3.5 gallon made in USA Ultrasonic Cleaner for half a benjamin.

It easily passed the aluminum foil obliteration test!

I got these at one garage sale. The torque wrench is made by Gray, it came with the New Britain reversible ratchet adapter. The loose wrenches are all Gray except the 6mm and there is one Snap On. The mastercraft wrenches are all metric. Total cost $4.

The grinder is Industrial Power made in Japan, works perfectly cost $5.

I found this ratchet at another sale cost 25 cents it was as stiff as a 2 by 4. Cleaning and oiling it works without any problems and is very smooth. I drifted in a socket adapter so I can attach 1/4 in sockets to it. It says "Duro Chrome" on the handle.

Looks like a typical roughneck collection.

jas....yes the hydrashear will cut the chain you speak of

Now I just need to find a roughneck who needs a new/used set of tools. If I were in Western KS, ND, or any of the other hot natural gas field locations I'd have gold...

Did you just use distilled water in yours? I have a 2 gallon unit that I want to start using. Ever try to use one to clean rust off of hardware?

Another slow weekend here, but still managed to find a few interesting things:
0915haul.jpg

In the upper left are two early Craftsman DOEs and two Herbrand specialty DBEs-one for adjusting valves, one for dust cap removal.
I don't usually go for old power tools, but for $1, this sabre saw will fit nicely in the Powr-Kraft collection.
Everything else was from a sale I think I plundered earlier in the year. I did manage to find a like-new SK stubby screwdriver, a "C. Hammond Phila" hammer, a Bausch and Lomb magnifying glass, a Goodell-Pratt push-screwdriver (I think), a Thorsen socket, and screwdrivers from Bonney, Proto, Thorsen, Powr-Kraft, and Irwin/Bell System.

This very nice Schrader tire gauge was in a small $3 lot I picked-up recently. It needed a new rubber washer I fashioned from an old inner tube. It works great! 10-160 PSI.

7991730019_2d6e3f1fe8_z.jpg

Schrader makes some nice tire gauges. I found one in a pile of stiff I had last week. Never knew I had it. When I used it I was like..."this is a nice tire gauge". The I looked at it closer and noticed it was an old Schrader but different from yours.

MAde by a a company called Duro. You can read about them at Alloy Artifacts.

Saved some more stuff today. Only stopped at one yard sale, but it had a few nice things. Saved:

USA 6-inch C-clamp, screw is slightly bent but still usable
Cman Pro flat screwdriver
4 Cman sockets, 2 1/4-drive, 1 1/2-drive, and 1 3/4-drive
Proto 3031 DOE wrench
Herbrand large DOE wrench
Bridgeport nutdriver (???)
steel box originally for Black & Decker drill kit (nothing in it, but a nice box) - 50 cents!

The Bridgeport nutdriver has me scratching my head, I thought BP made big machine tools, never seen any hand tools by BP.

Overall, the entire bill was $8.25 for everything. I think I did pretty good, since the 3/4-drive Craftsman socket, a 1-7/16 size 12-point, retails for $22 by itself. Overall I'm happy.

Nice score Rickster!

I went back to my first stop from yesterday again this AM and got deeper into the recesses of the garage (finally took three trips... last Sun, yesterday,and this AM...). Fewer tools but what there was were more interesting, but some"supplies" and books as well:

Consumables first; About Half a gross of acid/glue brushes, 3 hammer handles, Near 10 lbs of solder, with paste flux and 3 new rolls of solder wick, and 2 5" grinding wheels;
attachment.php

24 1" belt sanding strips (5 sleeves of fine 3 med), a fine wire wheel, a variety of toggle switches, 2 Xacto backsaw blades, and an alarm buzzer, (got that by accident in a storage bin soon to come);
attachment.php

2 steel and one aluminum "hobby boxes" the small one is just the right size for the DP project control box I need for the treadmill motor control card
attachment.php

A box of file handles (with three odd leather thumb guards? :dunno: ), Tap magic, and some phosphoric acid.
attachment.php

NIB general drill sharpener fixture, a cool old .22 gun cleaning it in the original metal tin (Sears Robuck), a tin of 1/8" number stamps, and an idler pulley for some power tool, that I'm hoping to splice a std pulley sheave onto for my late 30's craftsman DP.
attachment.php

It starts getting more interesting here: a dead center, a live center, a 1/2" drill chuck, and a drive center (wood) for some small lathe product, another drill chuck, this one really small, for some other smaller collet chuck.

Two tiny vises; one a semi conventional DP vise, except it has that extra jaw piece to allow clamping a tapered item, (the extra jaw piece rotate on a center pin the fits into the lower part of the dynamic jaw), and a really strange vise that has a series of four holes in each jaw, presumably for pins to hold irregular objects,or for bending fixtures, or for both...
attachment.php

More to come!

Good saves maddawg!

Other stuff from the same place:

Two pivoting pedestals, one with a table;
attachment.php

A parts bin box and a body working spoon (this is a ******* right?)
attachment.php

The parts bin will get some new hammered silver on the outer case at least, the drawers may clean up OK.
attachment.php

One more hobby box,this one is phenolic, and some "shop books" two of which are bound editions of Popular science (dated 1942) and Popular mechanics (Not sure yet of the year, but I suspect the same year);
attachment.php

More mostly shop books;

Wow Outlaw, that was a real honey hole! Cool and interesting stuff.

I didn't get to a single sale this weekend. My estate sale guy called and told me not to bother... so I spent some time in the garage cleaning, sorting, photographing, and putting stuff away from previous scores.

I still need to post the other half of my $40 for 18 pounds bag-o-goodies from the pawn shop, and I have a nice bucket full from another pawnshop stop. (I guess it's how I console myself for missing the sales :) )

I owe some people pix of stuff for sale too. I'll try to get those done Monday. I'm taking the CERT training class this fall, so that eats half a day on Monday for the next 7 weeks. It's been real interesting so far.

Great scores guys, I'm jealous for sure! Nice stuff saved from the scrap bin.

my weekend was similar to zuk's. i didn't hit a single sale due to a combination of factors. I wasn't vigilant about mapping out sales in the later days of the week and had to miss all of Friday sales because i was working.

I missed a killer tool sale just miles from my office on Thursday because i didn't even look to see what was happening nearby. I called the company and confirmed what i had missed. A Wilton #350S vise for 40.00!!

There was no new sales happening on Saturday and the rest of the sales were already 2 days old, not to mention it was 110 degrees out and ice cold inside my house. I decided to stay inside on the couch and nurse my injured knee back to health with beer and TV.:thumbup: It sure beats standing in line for a few hours

Seriously it has been! all of today's, most of yesterdays, except for the Littlestown vise and wood clamp, and all of last Sunday's... :rocker:

Well I have been poking around here and reading this thread and it inspired me to start stoping at estate sales. It has been slim pickings but I did get these vintage body hammers and dollies along with the 3 rasp files in a beat up tool box for $15. The hammer on the top of the image didn't have a handle but I was able to make up this one for it.

Stopped at 1 sale i thought would be a megga score based on the pictures and descriptions. Someone either picked it clean or the marketing was a bit over zealous. Still not bad for $3......and $5 in gas. I guess those are the risks we take.

1" Armstrong 1/2" drive socket
2 standard 6" rules
1 nice 12" steel rule. metric on side and english on the other. Was made in england but no brand mark.
old Challenger 3/8" ratchet. Cleaned up nice
1 Williams 1" -15/16 "Super Wrench"

That is not really slim pickings. That is how most estate sales go......just a handful of worthy items. Good score.

:+1: on this ^^^^

The usual is no more than a half dozen items, more likely one or two per stop, getting more than a half dozen tools in one stop is gravy, and spending over an hour digging in a garage, sometimes helped by the owner like happened yesterday, is a blue moon special event! Even Estate sales (Which yesterday sort of was), I'm generally in and out in under 15 min.

I found some useful stuff this past weekend. I'm going to clean, repaint, and sell the Taskmaster 5. The desk lamp will be completely restored. The large metal bins will most likely be sold, as I don't have room for them. The rest is all mine.

Nate - To my limited knowledge, the Taskmaster 5 was made in India and designed to look like a Wilton. It is beefy, but lacks the craftsmanship of US made vises. I am taking it apart, cleaning it, and selling it. I thought it would fit on my bench, but I was wrong about that.

Hit one this morning for a toolbox (gray/red craftsman) but they wanted $250 for it and wouldn't budge. Ended up with a Snap-On 3/8 speedwrench, plvmb 3/8 speedwrench, sk wayne 1/4 socket set w/green metal box but w/o ratchet, diamalloy 12" adjustable wrench, and a surebonder riveter. Pictures later when I get home.

Diamalloy 12", marked Diamond Calk and Horseshoe. I think it's been painted black.
SK 13/16", Duro/Indestro 15/16", Snap-On 3/4"
Plvmb 5280 and Snap-On F4L speed wrenches
Channellock 317 and 436
IMG_1389.JPG

Smaller SK Wayne 1/4" set. No driver in this one, the front extension is a cornwell. Box is in pretty good shape.
IMG_1390.JPG

Larger SK Tools 1/4" set. Box is much rougher on this one.
IMG_1388.JPG

Riveter(s)

Any idea to tell what was supposed to be in these SK sets (or where to find the original model numbers) to see if there are any missing pieces? I'd also like to figure out which drive tool is supposed to be in the top one.

Nice SK sets. The second set looks very close to complete. The Wayne set would be missing a ratchet maybe more. There are people here that have catalogs and could tell you more.

Good finds.

Outlaw,

Ever since I saw what a NOS half green Plomb hammer handle went for on ebay (north of $100!) I've kept an eye out for hammer handles. But those body hammers gasguzziler picked up would be mighty fine too!:bounce:

After a long dry spell, I finally hit an excellent sale this morning. Hout toolbox, $10.00, a Kennedy and a Walton Products box and a craftsman that looks like the day it sold in the store for $2.00. Plus a Snap-on KR-229 (I think) with eight Snap-on universals for $8.00.

A knife set for $5.00, plus other assorted Thorson, New Britain, Proto and SK stuff for a grand total of $54.50.

I'll second the 'you ****'!

Pity they left the top open on the Huot, letting the tray get nasty, but I guess that's why the lid is in such good shape. (on second look, it's mostly dusty. I bet that little bit of rust polishes right off.)

Nice scores.

I'm hoping to get out this weekend, but if I don't, I've got piles from my last big day still to go thru.

Good hunting to everyone this weekend!
