At a local pawn shop, they've got a Snap-On KRSC33 box. It looks like the previous owner cleared out necessities, leaving behind a few items to bump up the money he'd be offered at the shop. A handful of these items are Snap-On; what caught my eye was an incomplete wrench set and a few incomplete socket sets. I'd very conservatively say I could get $100 for the contents of the box. Price = 500 dollars.

I could swing this on layaway over the course of a few paychecks without much trouble. Apart from parting with the $500, the main thing that bothers me about pulling the trigger is that the damn thing's yellow! Other than that, the box is in excellent shape. I do need a small box for home use; this one is more of a work-station, which would suit my needs just fine. So I could get over the color, I'm telling myself, if I think the price is right.

As you could probably guess, I'm on the fence about the price. What would you do? Anyone like these boxes?

If you were paying cash upfront all at once you might be able to haggle them down some. Lawaway they tend not to budge on the price. My experiences.

I think for that kind of money(even after selling tools), you could have a HF 13 drawer with TONS more space and a big top you can actually work on without having to "lift to open drawers"...

Not thought of that. I have the cash put back, but it's really hard for me to peel off any amount outta the 'saved' pile. I guess that's what I save for though...

Normally I would roll my eyes at that response, but since this is about what "I would do," I did precisely that . . . I bought the $99 HF BLACK model and upgraded a few weak parts to make it a very good tool cart. But that's just me. :)

I'll admit I love the Snap-On name, and seem to love paying big bucks for their tools, almost irrationally. I simultaneously like a bargain for quality, and believe others that attest to the quality in that big HF unit. BUT the draw -- apart from the name (already explained that) -- to the Snap-On is it's size and what's inside. If I put all the tools I own at the house, not just automotive, into that big *** box I might fill it half way, not to mention I don't have a lot of space. I could also use a few of those tools in the Snap-On, and can make money on the rest.

You'd be a bigger help if, instead of pushing the HF, you'd just slam the Snap-On....ha! I'm kinda driving myself nuts.

I wouldn't pay more than $250 for that cart and then you need to factor in what is inside to add to the bottom line.

Hell, I have that service cart in ultra yellow with the Batman logo spray painted by a PO on the lid I paid $175 for (the whole cart, not the Batman logo) sitting in my basement right now. Thus it is called the "Batman Box." Been passed around more than a $2 ***** at work and now I have possession.
Traded back to my weely driver 3 times for new carts or roll cabs by co-workers and my driver wanted it gone.

Updated KRL style barrel lock. Fresh Snap-On dwr. trim and lid hold ups.

Ultra yellow is a big fan boi color though.

But at the end of the day, a HF 5 dwr. service cart will kick its *** or at least be = with far less $$$ lay out. If you want to keep it for the long haul, then deal and buy it.

Unless you want the yellow, it is not a great deal. Or at least to me.

Normally, I would not promote HF over USA but this basically boils down to residential storage, not a professional environment so it only makes sense.

SNIP* If I put all the tools I own at the house, not just automotive, into that big *** box I might fill it half way, not to mention I don't have a lot of space. I could also use a few of those tools in the Snap-On, and can make money on the rest.

I guarantee if you get ANY cart, you will need additional storage at some point and with limited space, it's possible you can't have both cart and box. Start with more storage than you need, then fill as needed.
That said, if you are dead set on a cart, I have the black HF myself and can personally attest to the quality of it, I would highly recommend it. They say the HF red one is actually better, that is something else you could look into. For the cost of one paycheck deduction for that YELLOW(did I mention it was YELLOW?) cart, you could get the black/red HF cart with coupon and be done. You'd still have 3-4 more payments on that banana that could go towards buying more quality tools to fill it(or the 13 drawer HF).

Just my opinions, y'all.

Somewhere I wrote about it but can't remember. The main thing was to reinforce the casters. They are just bolted to the sheet metal base and will bend enventually so I added some metal pieces to the backing. If I ever get around to it I'll also replace the casters with some quality casters of around $50 each. Next thing ya know, you're right there at your current sale price.

But on the positive side, you won't ever lose that yellow Snap-On box in the garage . . . and might not be able to sell it either. :)

"If I were you"

Three drawers, a lift to open top, and the "flat surface rule" says that you are paying WELL over $125 for each drawer, plus a bottom shelf that will collect **** and make you have to be on your hands and knees to get anything in or out..

I'd pass. All drawers and a top work surface is the best practical solution. Ror that kind of $$ the HF 44 or 56" rollers or equivalent are a better arrangement.

I don't care that much for the cheaper HF black chest, but the US General red one seems very much like that Snapon, and its around $160 with a coupon.

Thanks guys -- I'm off the ledge.

Unless I hit the lottery tomorrow morning, of course.
