Just sold 2 pairs of 9" vintage Vise Grips on ebay. Someone is willing to pay 18 bucks for shipping to Thailand. Wow, at least someone loves quality tools!

I shipped to Australia once and shipping was like $40 on a $100 item. Seller wanted it though. You have to be careful though, as Ebay does not protect a seller if the item does not have a tracking #, and tracking #s are not available for most international shipping. A lot of international transactions end up with the seller getting scammed.

I've had good luck so far with International Shipping, but keeping my fingers crossed.

postal service deliver confirmation is enough just make sure the post office scans the bar cade in and ship through ebay or pay pal, Also fyi all flat rate USPS boxes include insurance automatically (except the small one)

I shipped a $600.00 vcr to Australia and the shipping was $680.00 and change. The buyer expected it. I actually re-packed it because the 1st time it was over $1000.

I always factor in shipping costs when I'm bidding so in a sense the seller isn't getting as high a price for his items because of the cost of shipping.
EXAMPLE:
I'm in Canada bidding on an item in the UK. It will cost me $50.00 to ship but a local guy will only have to pay $15.00 to ship to him. Let's say the new price is $200 so we bidders are willing to go 1/2 price, total. So I'm willing to spend $50.00 on shipping and $50 for the item = $100.00. The local guy is willing to spend $15.00 to ship and $85.00 on the item = $100.00. If we are the only 2 serious bidders the local guy would get it for $55.00. If the seller would offer non trackable econo shipping for $25.00 I would bid $75.00 on the item and the local guy would have to bid $80.00 to win the auction.
The moral of the story is the cheaper the shipping you can offer the better selling price you are likely to get.

I have been selling on ebay 14 years and have shipped econo non trackable to Italy, Hungary, Japan, Germany and on and on and have NEVER lost a package. I've had stuff take 3 months but never a loss.

Go check the bids on any finished auctions and you will see how often just 2 interested bidders have brought the selling price of an item up 2,3 or even 10 times higher than the next (3rd.) bidder.

Today's higher shipping costs effect mostly low value items that in many cases can be purchased new locally for about the same cost as the auction price and shipping combined.

The only explanation I can give you is that you just can't fault folks who know that the quality of the Nebraska-made Vise Grips don't hold a candle to what is coming out of Irwin's Chinese factory(s) now.

I've got an entire drawer of my tool box filled with various models of Vise Grips, and every pair is made by Peterson Manufacturing in Dewitt, Nebraska.
