Big grandson, grand dad project for science class. I cut the pieces, he did the assembly - including the camo paint.

Boy do I remember helping my son on his trebuchet project. Funny how their school projects so easily turn into father/son projects isn't it?

Finally got things organized and put up in order to have enough room to start the de-construction of the Galaxie.

63-1/2, loves those cars! In the mid 80's when I was a sophomore I had the opportunity to buy a 406 4 speed black 63-1/2. It had been a drag car most of it's life and had lost the 406 early on. It had a warmed over 390 still sporting the cast long branch exhaust manifolds, the 3x2 carbs were gone as well but the air cleaner was still with it. Asking price was $500 but when you're 15 and dad says you want a car you buy it I wasn't able to pull it off. The poor thing was parted and a beautiful original paint rust free body was sent to die. Still makes me well up a little....

Decided to find the source of the nasty growling noise I had been hearing.

Found a bad carrier bearing. Napa had one in stock. I also cleaned it out and put in all new seals while I was at it.

Had a delightfully quiet test drive and then a beer before supper.

Unistrut Workbench

Added another 7hrs to the Unistrut workbench

when I thought about securing the workbench top down, I thought about modifying the top crossbar in each leg set (in/out of wall) to let it sit flush with the workbench top. So that's another setback!

The to-do list:

1. 4 more legs for 3rd box on right _ DONE!
2. fit test _ DONE!
3. detail welding to aid assembly/disassembly _ DONE!
4. install outlets and air on legs
5. run air and power
5. workbench top - 3/4" sandply + 3/4" sheating ply woods
6. prep frame for paint
7. Reassemble

Engine came out of the T-Bird last Sat.
Wanted to look at the bearings and the heads need a valve job. C-4 needs going thru, possibly start with another core, ton of passes on that one.

Finished my electrical wiring of the offices. Finished my Rapid Air airline installation. Put together a cabinet to store chlorine pellets for the water filtration system. Installed a utility sink and purchased my pex plumbing supplies to finish the plumbing in the shop. Travel this week and when I return, start installing the plumbing.

Brought home and plopped this big girl down :) Wilton 1780...120 bucks.

Also built the bench on Sunday. Moved the boxes down so I have more room down by the vise.

I looks great so far. The black plastic strip blend in well.
I just ordered 4 more of the Unistrut outlets for my project.

I just finished a heated drinking fountain for my donkeys. Ambient temperature this morning was 17 degrees, water temperature was 55 degrees. They're happy, I'm happy not to have to deal with frozen 5 gallon buckets of ice ever again.

Painted the ugly brass cailing fan to match the retro clock in the garage. Now I've been told I'm painting the front foyer light this week too...

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I read this thread regularly, and I'm always interested in what everybody is working on. But I can't seem to figure out where in the hell all you guys are getting the time to do these projects. I can't seem to find the time to sweep my garage floor let alone any big projects. Most of the time that I'm reading this instead of working in the garage, I'm at work which gives me a fair amount of computer time.

I'm hoping to install a line lock on my camaro along with rebuilding the fuel system this winter.

I ordered mine from Lord & Sons out of California.
I think they are about $10 each.
I painted mine to match the grey plastic covers.

I like that little shelf for your chargers! The 4 or 5 chargers I have take up about 1.5 square feet of my bench right now so I may have to steal your idea.

Thank you. I had to modify it a little plus it is upside down to give it the angle.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Didn't get a chance to work in the shop last night. I had to meet a couple of contractors at my parents old farm to get quotes on leveling the place. I then had to caulk around the bathtub in the house that I had prepped the night before.

But tonight is different story. My son takes his last final for the semester today so tonight we are tearing into the last several mods on his Jeep LJ. He has been collecting some parts for the past couple of months and then my wife and I bought him new gears and limited slip differentials for both axles for Christmas this year.

We are going to work on it so it is ready when his next college semester starts in January. Three weeks of working in the shop with my son, it doesn't get any better than that. I am so looking forward to it.

Mike.

Got done building and sanding the new headboard for the wife, just put the stain on it. Tonight I can get the first coat of rubbed varnish on it. It is a African Mahogany raised-panel design for her christmas gift. I've gotta get it done asap so I can hide it..!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I pulled my old Simplicity snow blower out of the garden shed, checked for oil, put fuel in it and fired it up after sitting for 8 years. It started the 2nd pull. :bounce: I think it's a '68 model my Dad bought new. I put a new motor on it in about '88 and used it until'99 when I moved into my current house and got a plow for the truck. I didn't like shoveling a path to the new garage I built last year very much, so I thought I would start using this again. :headscrat It seemed to work so well I even put a path around the yard for my very old dog so her life might be a little easier. :eyecrazy:

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I always check this thread but have never posted. Usually I do something in the garage everyday just not project related.
After the day I had today I think it is time for a post.

I got my **** handed to me doing ordinary everyday things in my garage today. If it could go wrong it did. So tonight I decided to just drink beer in the garage next to the woodstove! Pretty sure that won't get screwed up.

Do you work more than 10 hours a day, 6 days a week? If not you've got lotsa time to be in the shop!

Cut and threaded the last of my gas pipe. Passed inspection with flying colors. The new furnace is just in time for the monsoon.
