I've heard lots of car find stories about "we found this car with a tree growing up through it". Ressurect the Teraplane, and you will top them all

Thanks again for pictures that show the progress. Glad you're back home.

X2. I never knew what a Terraplane was until I googled it. Id resurrect that bad boy, if it looked like this one:

Thomas,
It's a great ride with you on this transformation. The old Terraplane frame really is coming apart. I haven't gotten any more cabinets for the garage lately, but plan on getting back to the repurpose warehouse after Jan 1. Happy Holiday to each of you. Dennis

P.S. Knocked off almost 300 miles in past week in the '67 Vette.

I was starting to sort some more of the Tool Shed material I've removed. Here's a quick look at some of the hood ornaments I found out there.

I'll try to get close ups posted shortly and hopefully some of you might be able to help ID some of them. I think they are amazingly cool!

That's not your father's Terraplane. Bad boy indeed, that's one wicked looking Terraplane. Thanks bashr52 for the posting.

Here's a bit closer view of some of the hood ornaments.

IMG_1918.jpg

I have done no cleaning, buffing or polishing on them at all as yet. This is "barn fresh", as found.

IMG_1960.jpg

The one closest to the camera or...

IMG_1919.jpg

... on the far right here, is incredibly sleek when viewed head on don't you think. It gives a tremendous suggestion of speed, pure streamline form. Art Deco at it's finest I'd say.

IMG_1958.jpg

The Pontiac Chief's I posted a while back when I first found them.

IMG_1920.jpg

Suggestions of speed...

IMG_1921.jpg

...power and flight...

IMG_1922.jpg

...are everywhere.

IMG_1925.jpg

Another gorgeous Art Deco piece...

IMG_1949.jpg

...and another...

IMG_1942.jpg

...and yet another. This could have been...

IMG_1941.jpg

... Flash Gordon's rocket ship.

IMG_1926.jpg

The 1950's and fascination with the era of "Rockets"...

IMG_1928.jpg

...is self evident...

IMG_1956.jpg

...there were many...

IMG_1957.jpg

...rockets in use. This picture by the way is image #1957 on my camera counter. Talk about coincidences! :D

IMG_1929.jpg

And then there's this odd duck. I'm confident it will be readily identified...

IMG_1930.jpg

...and I have to wonder what was going through the designer's mind.

IMG_1931.jpg

What in the world was he trying to project with this? :headscrat

I only know what a very few of them are. Anyone who would like to contribute their knowledge as to the make and year is invited to please ID away. Once that's done I'm pretty sure that will become test material so post at your own risk! :scared:

I have a few more still to come.

Justacarguy.blosgspot.com himself here, and I'm happy to see the garage thread is still getting updates!

It's one of my favorite stories in this hobby, the right place and the right guy met and this thread shows the results are incredible.

Wow on the hood ornaments! I hope you figure them out if you care to, and that identification guide is still all I've come across that does a half decent job of getting the job done. In the years and thousands of people that have looked at it, it still has had no one at all offer a link to anything better for identifying hood ornaments. I hope someone has a visual guide somewhere that is better, and posts it to share with everyone... you've no idea how many people are curious about something they found in a yard sale, garage, or attic.

Best wishes for the continued updates, your good health, and a great holiday break from punching the time clock at jobs we are glad to be away from.

Very nice collection of Auto Art.
I'm thinking each hood ornament represents a car that was scrapped out by Mr. Johnson.
Also another great link to identify old car parts.
Thanks again and Merry Chrismas to all.

Here's a follow up on a shop project. I took some of this scrap tubbing that was left in the shop......

IMG_3407.jpg

...and fabricated it as you recall, by mitering the corners so the open ends wouldn't show....

SnBlwrCartSm1.jpg

... bolting rubber tired casters on...

SnBlwrCartSm4.jpg

... turning it into a cart to set my tractor snow blower on. Here's how that turned out...

IMG_3198.jpg

...after it was...

IMG_3197.jpg

...powder coated John Deere yellow to match the blower.

IMG_3203.jpg

The lifting ring I made to lift the blower onto the cart.

Now by myself, I can easily move that blower which weighs close to 400 lbs. So some more old material from Mr Johnson has been converted into something useful and should live a long life.

Thomas

i know it is 2 yrs. later, but just now getting to this pg. and noticed the hook on the bucket. why didn't you use the tractor to move the anvil? jim

Questions are always welcomed here Jim, no worries about that. The answer is I think it would undignified to wrap a chain around the anvil and dangle it from the the bucket. Much more proper to walk it. Besides we both needed the exercise! :D

Enjoy the read and welcome to the vortex.

With a little black powder he could let them "walk" themselves where he wants them.:lol_hitti

Now there is a man just itching to shoot an anvil! First time I'd try it the anvil'd probably come through the roof of the old shop and smack poor Gus! That would not be a pretty sight.

If you use a shaped charge the you can litterally put it exactly where you want it Thomas.:rocker: You might even be able to plant a tree where the hole is once it goes off.

Nah, no black powder propulsion for Thomas's anvil; he'll probably 'borrow' a piece of ground handling equipment from the airport and cart it around with a tug. Of course, all this paraphernalia will probably get powder-coated in his employer's livery. lol

I'm pretty sure I saw a hood ornament for a Klingon war bird in there..lol

But on serious note, out of the 3 with the amber, the one in the center is for sure a Pontiac Indian. The one on the left with the jet looking wings, it looks like it could be a Hudson but thats a guess.

Just got my work/office PC back up and working after trying to load this whole thread crashed it! Haven't looked at this one for a while so decided to start at the beginning and scroll through - no joy so I'm going to guess at about page 50 and see how I go.

Wish me luck!

I guess we're charting new territory with the high page count/picture-heavy thread! Sorry to bazzateer and all others who are struggling with this issue.
I suppose I should have listed England (many locales) and then proceeded to separately list all the other associated countries in the UK, but that was another time....in the far distant past and cannot be relived unless you invent a real time machine (or I go back to edit the list and throw everyone off in their studies)... which would upset the balance in The Center of the Universe! (Oh, and charlief1, don't encourage more "creative" tree planting schemes. Tom's making himself enough work as it is, and we don't want to damage that anvil in the process.)

Company colors. Well why not. On that note who do you fly for Thomas ?

Quick run down on that:

I started with a large Regional airline, Britt Airlines, here in the Mid-West. They in turn were purchased by a large East Coast air-carrier, People Express, that was absorbed by Continental Airlines (CAL)...

CAL2.jpg

I was loaned by CAL to:

AirMike727Combi-1.jpg

Air Micronesia, a wholly owned subsidiary of CAL (This is one of Air Mike's combi 727's in Saipan) where I flew all over the South Pacific and Asia (I made it to Papua New Guinea but not quite Australia) for a couple of years. Returning to the States I've spent the bulk of my time and career...

...flying Boeing 767's in these company colors. Two years ago Continental and United Airlines (UAL) decided to merge. The Continental name was replaced with United...

...but they use the paint and color scheme from CAL. This is our newest aircraft, a Boeing 787. Um, does that answer your question HOTFR8? :dunno: You do know you've created more test material? :D

Will the crew understand if we send a message to the cabin asking for "Thomas the Captain" from "Garage Journal Self Loading Cargo" ??
