Wife bought me a $200 Sears Craftsman's card. :dunno:

What's left in Sears that still has USA stamped on it? I already have their premium ratchets and polished offset box wrenches. What else is there worth having? Do the retail stores carry the industrial wrenches? I've never seen them.

Off the top of my head, pry bars, some pullers (but not all, be careful), Sears carried Channellock brand last I checked, although selection has never been great in my experience. You can also get some Estwing hammers that are US-made. I think the Craftsman branded roll pin punches are still US-made as well.

Hope that helps? :dunno:

Not USA made, but they carry a few odds and ends from Knipex and Wiha last I saw if you don't mind German made tools. :)

You could also look for the Craftsman Industrial stuff at the Sears Outlet site, and see if you can get them shipped to you.

Save it to buy your wife's birthday gift, although its unlikely you'll find any made in USA women's clothing either.

Buy now pay later https://apply.billmelater.com/apply?guid=7BP978XB is offered through paypal now, everyone who has a credit card attached to their paypal account is automatically aproved regardless of credit rating.

So those people who rack up their credit card bills and can't afford to pay them back are using this just like a credit card.

I just used a $50 card at Sears last night. I looked at a Craftsman double flare tool...Made in USA.I bought a Stanley Fat Max tape measure-Made in USA.
They also had lots of Greenlee tools, not sure of COO on that though.

As much as I hate their website, they do have other vendors that sell under the Sears umbrella. You could possibly check that out and maybe find something that you actually want.

You could always use it towards a TV or radio for a garage. Not made in the USA, but you won't find any that are.

Don't know what else you need or other hobbies into but look over in the woodworking side too, even if you just want to stock up on saw blades and drill bits, sandpaper and other odds and ends. Maybe a nice chisel set?

The one by me carried cartrigde filters that fit some other shop vac brands, Shop Vac, Ridgid besides the Craftsman ones. Just look at the filters carefully.

The Craftsman heavy rubber garden hoses can't be beat, and will last for 10+ years. I have one here that's 17 or 18 years old!

Think 'outside the common tool box' and I bet you could blow that $200 quite easily at Sears.

This is the best solution and will make him look like a hero.

It has been years since I stepped foot in a Sears store.

Best place to buy tools is at garage sales, swap meets and pawn shops. I haven't bought a new tool in years, and I have more than the normal guy.

New stuff is primarily imported and fails to meet the quality level of older USA made stuff.

I saw a new 4.5" Milwaukee side grinder at the pawn shop marked at $40. I passed because it was made in Mexico. I went to the next shelf. There's a used paddle switch 4.5" DeWalt made in USA marked at $30. I offered $15 and went out the door with it for $20. Better to buy used than the made in Mexico new one.

How about a used Whitney hand held punch set in the metal box for $30. Same pawn shop. Price list for repair parts in the set lists items for $.15 !! How old do ya' think this set is.

I go in a pawn shop at Daytona Beach and see a NEW cam bearing installer in the plastic box. It's a $200 tool. They were asking $50. I go out the door with it for $30. I already had one, but at that price I CAN'T pass on it.

What I'm driving at here is #1) the worst time to buy a tool is when you absolutely have to have it and #2) there's better places to buy quality tools than the major retail stores.

After all, ya' buy new, use it once and now it's used. Just like buying a new car and driving it around the block. Used, but not used up.

Can you spend it at Ace Hardware on Craftsman tools instead of at Sears? :bounce:

I was at my local Ace Hardware last week, and most of the Craftsman wrenches they have on their shelves are still Made in the US tools.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the explanation. These are the pay-day loan class of people.

buy books on how to be less dramatic and appreciative of a gift.

It was just a joke. I thought that would be obvious? :dunno: Anyway, she is a great lady.

Thanks for all the input. I've got a good list now. I'm going to pick up woodworking bits, Estwing hammer, and check the outlet store for industrial wrenches. Anything left over I'll pick up a gift for the wife.

Use it for steel cabinets for your garage, die hard battery, battery charger, bags of fertilizer, nails/screws, light bulbs, drill bits, electrical hose reel and light combo, etc. Still plenty of "other" stuff worth getting.

Go buy yourself some new work clothes. My local Sears regularly has sales on Carhart, Dickey's, Cat, and other higher end work wear.

Dont forget to thank your wife. It could be worse, she couldve bought YOU that new washer/dryer, vacuum, luxury purse etc. that she's been wanting for months, which youve been stalling on buying for her.

Can you get vise grips at Sears? If so, you can't have too many. Especially welding clamps.

I've always been fond of their punch and chisel set, with the alignment tools.
And I LOVE their plastic socket rails with the ball detent socket holders. I'd buy $100 those alone!

How are you set on hammers? How about an old-fashioned crowbar?

Etc. etc. etc.

Plus, doesn't Sears sell other brands now, like Dewalt and Milwaukee? Lots of power tool options there.

True. I personally don't mind the Vise Grips made in China. Vise Grips has been pretty good at maintaining quality.
On that note, the Craftsman Pro clamping pliers appear to be identical to the newer style Vise Grips with the auto release. That's a big upgrade (as opposed to the auto-tension, which I think just plain *****), and they come with the Craftsman warranty. These are excellent.

The Craftsman wood chisels are actually really good striking chisels. They're a little hefty for finer paring chisels, but I also like that the handles do not roll (that's only an issue on the smallest ones though).

Their stainless spackle knives are superb. Not sure if you need them . . .
The clear Craftsman snow shovel looks to be really good.

They actually have a bunch of good stuff. It's all a question of what you need/want.

No that is how much they are selling it for. Read the feedback They are all fake! Every one of them sounds just like a sales pitch. They even use the scammers fatal give away statement "the item" Sounds just like the scammers that answer my CL ads with "I would like to purchase your "item", I'll send you $100 more than you are asking for your trouble":lol_hitti

I just picked up two 11 piece shallow Craftsman 6pt socket sets, SAE and metric, today that are USA made. They are cheaper than Williams USA or Williams offshore 6pt sets (though a few sockets fewer). Plus, they are right here in my town in a real walk-in store. No brainer.
