Need A Replacement For Klein D314-8 Long Nose Pliers

Evening lads. I am up against it with my long nose pliers. I have carried a pair of Klein D314-8 Long Reach Long Nose pliers for over ten years. I love these things. They are eight inches in length but have a short nose of less than two inches and no cutter. And have the slimmest of handles. Perfect for tight control cabinets and other limited clearance areas.

The grips are coming apart(thank you ******** who used them without my permission and destroyed the grips) and when I tried to order a new pair the vendor told me they are discontinued. I was sure I had seen them recently and indeed they are still shown on Klein's site. What gives I thought? I emailed Klein and sure enough, they are long gone. I suppose I could find some online somewhere but this is a company purchase and they like it to be easy to find.

So what are my options? The replacement grips from Klein are out. I despise the tenite grips, the models long enough replace these are way to large in diameter and will render the slimness of the tool irrelevant.

New grips from somewhere else? Anything out there? What about PlastiDip? I almost cringe at the thought of that stuff.

New pliers? I REALLY like Knipex but don't think they have an equivalent. Most pliers I have seen that approach this have really short handles and very long noses. I like the way the Klein's are laid out with long handle/short nose. I can tell you that until a replacement grip or pliers is found these aren't leaving the tool bag.

Thanks James. The boss deals with HD. Maybe look there.

Jeff, sorry. No go. This will have to come from some sort of standard supplier or retailer. We have to deal with purchase orders and the like. They will never go for eBay. Thanks for the heads up though. Worth looking into for personal use.

Hey chaps, I may have solved this. I have no idea how I overlooked this on Knipex's web site but the model 28 21 200 is an almost perfect match. In fact, the jaws are even shorter than the Klein model 50mm vs 34mm. This would solve a lot of issues since my company just set up an account with Chadstoolbox and they seem to have or can get anything Knipex. Give me your thoughts.

Stick with the Kleins while you can still find some. The D314-8's are the absolute finest long nose/long reach style pliers on the planet. I use mine all the time.

Apparently Klein has discontinued them in preparation of their move to China. Clearance inventory was available at Kleinconnection up until about a month ago but now they're sold out. You can still find them though.

I'm not impressed with Knipex needle nose style pliers. Kleins are far superior. For one thing Klein alternates the serrations on the jaws which means you can get some bite at any angle. I haven't seen that on Knipex.

I have those exact pair of knipex. Was thinking about them as I read through your post. They're exactly as you describe your needs. The quality it top notch and seem to be strong. Just recently got them so haven't used them that much but I'd recommend them

Ah, heat shrink! I never thought of that. Great suggestion Charles. I was wondering what might work. Another thing I wish I could do is snap my fingers and have the same grip finish that is on the Knipex Cobra pliers. Not the two component handles but the regular stuff. My Cobra's grips seem to be bonded to the pliers handles and they do not move at all. Wish there was a company who offered such services. Thanks again for the great suggestion.
