I finally got this done and it turned out really good. The slab is about 11 years old and it had a sealer on it. Also my painter sprayed the walls and I had a ton of over spray on the floor. I ended up renting a diamond grinder and to be honest I almost over-ground the floor trying to get the sealer and over spray off.

I taped up my shoes so I would not destroy them.

I went with Legacy's epoxy primer, and I will never do another floor without it. I didn't have one single bubble from out gassing. Temps were probably about perfect at 65 degrees.

Next was the base coat which was dark grey in color. The chips I chose were the grey/blue/white/black. I actually divided the slab into 4 sections, but to be honest I had plenty of working time with each batch. I probably could have done the whole thing at once, but I was afraid it would kick fast. The chips seem to land evenly and I went for a mild broadcast. The paint pal seem to work good to aid in carry the chips around.

The top coat is the urethane clear. It was easy to spread, but really has an odor. I was afraid to put it on too thick and actually only used a gallon on a 24x24 slab. It has been down for about a month and still looks great.

I finally got the stripes on the wall and the block wall painted. I"m very satisfied with the results.

I highly recommend Legacy Industrial for your next epoxy floor project.

Thanks,

Thanks for the pics and info. I have this same kit sitting in storage. I'm waiting for my new house to be done and this will be the first thing I do before a single car get's put in the garage.

Any other tips or tricks you can provide would be awesome! This will be my first time. I knew I'd be doing this so I had the builder not seal the garage floor.

A couple of other things that I can think of are :

- I purchased a new 5 gallon bucket and mixed both part A's together for color consistency.

- If you do your floor in sections have a safe place you can set the roller, while mixing. I had an extra bucket that I just hung it over the side.

- Pour the mixed epoxy onto the floor in a ribbon around the section you will be coating. This will increase the working time.

- I also taped a straight line at the garage doors using green automotive tape. On the outside of the garage door, I used plastic that I cut and taped between the door and the outside concrete. This is just extra protection form leaves blowing in or an unexpected shower.

- Spike shoes are a must.

- when you throw the chips, before taking the chips out of the container, roll them between your fingers, sometime they will clump together. Also just throw small amounts. I bounced them off of the ceiling (9ft)

Thats all I can think of for now.

Thanks Dandan for the compliments.

Texas-saluki, for me the primer was extra insurance. My flour was very porous and really soaked up the primer. I believe it helped give a uniform color with regards to the topcoat. It also prevented any out gassing through the topcoat. I had both these issues with my floor that I did on the other side of the building in which I did not use a primer.

Hope this helps.

I have a question on the use of a primer... I see some people do it and others do not. The guys at Alpha Garage (wolverine) I recall always recommending it but I see on the Legacy site it is optional. I read this thread but I cannot say I really understand the difference

Epoxy primers are not 100% solids. They are generally water based and anywhere from 50% - 70% solids depending on the manufacturer. The slightly thinner consistency will actually bond better to the concrete by allowing it to sink in a little further and take hold as well as providing a source of excellent adhesion for the base coat. Many primers will also act as a moisture barrier and are good at reducing bubbles from out gassing.
