Well just got back from picking them up. And as the pictures will hopefully depict I think I did alright. They are in great condition and despite some dust and a bit of surface rust from age, they will work beautifully.
(1) The Record 3VS is made in Sheffield England. Curious to know when production changed to China. The vice is stunning and as identified previously on GJ, the machining is significantly superior to the Irwin Record models. The vice is the only swivel model in the group.
(2) Irwin Record #3. Pretty standard non swivel with a bit of surface rust. Still a wonderful vice for the money.
(3) Mastercraft #4 (Canadian Tire house brand) 58-7840 made in Japan; This vice is the most intriguing in that it is much older and a quick Google search did not reveal much information. It is rock solid with very impressive castings. There is no rust on the screw or any of the working bits. For the vice historians, I would love more information on when and who may have made this for Canadian Tire. Being a Canadian of Japanese decent, I have some natural interest from a historical perspective.
Now here's the best part, when I went to pick them up, a really nice guy helped me carry them out and I handed him $15. He gave me back $10 and apologized because he made a mistake in the ad!!! $5 for all 3 is what should have been listed. I tried to offer him more but he said I was doing them a favor by getting them out of their way (he worked for a non-profit)
Despite the snow here in Ottawa today and the fact that my employees couldn't get much work done outside, I guess it was a good day.
