If you are in the Ottawa area here's a deal. They may even be Records.

Yeah, how could you go wrong spending $15 to get 3 nice vises!

Looks like 2 are fixed and other is swivel base.

I will hopefully get my first I ****. I was the lucky guy that got them. When I called the person in charge was not there and so I asked the receptionist to time stamp my message. The gentleman called back and said pick them up after 12pm.

I'll post pics and details when I get them.

Cheers

Well just got back from picking them up. And as the pictures will hopefully depict I think I did alright. They are in great condition and despite some dust and a bit of surface rust from age, they will work beautifully.

(1) The Record 3VS is made in Sheffield England. Curious to know when production changed to China. The vice is stunning and as identified previously on GJ, the machining is significantly superior to the Irwin Record models. The vice is the only swivel model in the group.

(2) Irwin Record #3. Pretty standard non swivel with a bit of surface rust. Still a wonderful vice for the money.

(3) Mastercraft #4 (Canadian Tire house brand) 58-7840 made in Japan; This vice is the most intriguing in that it is much older and a quick Google search did not reveal much information. It is rock solid with very impressive castings. There is no rust on the screw or any of the working bits. For the vice historians, I would love more information on when and who may have made this for Canadian Tire. Being a Canadian of Japanese decent, I have some natural interest from a historical perspective.

Now here's the best part, when I went to pick them up, a really nice guy helped me carry them out and I handed him $15. He gave me back $10 and apologized because he made a mistake in the ad!!! $5 for all 3 is what should have been listed. I tried to offer him more but he said I was doing them a favor by getting them out of their way (he worked for a non-profit)

Despite the snow here in Ottawa today and the fact that my employees couldn't get much work done outside, I guess it was a good day.

Thanks Steve

Unfortunately, you were the first to "**** yourself", thus, to quote the Soup Nazi, "NO **** FOR YOU"!!!:spit:

Edit, skamp's pic did not work on my computer until now, so you do in fact ****! Congrats!:bounce:

What kind of non profit place was it? 5 bucks is less than scrap value!!!

You robbed a non-profit. I am even more disappointed now that I realize I lost out on the vise deal of the century. :bitchslap

I just yelled "you ****!" You know how long I have been looking to get a vise? I am in DIRE need of a vice (if you want to send one my way I will pay shipping:bowdown: )

But in all seriousness, that is awesome, $5 each is great, $5 for all three is too good for words. Guess I gotta keep waiting.

Most definitely . . . . MAJOR SUCKAGE . . . !!!

Seriously can you really use 3 vises . . . considering a non-profit virtually GAVE them to you?? Might be time for GJ pay-it-forward prize to next newby member from Ontario, Canada who has no vise at all??

With an attitude like that no wonder they can't turn a profit

I sit on the Board for a school just outside of Ottawa and ultimately they will be the recipient of my excesses. Their shop has many of my former tools and I get a huge charge of helping them out. I can't help but think that it would be bad karma if i were to turn around and sell them again on the same site for way more money:D

You're a good man Charlie Brown!! Someone will be quite pleased with their new blue vise. Today's young men need every reason to do their own wrenching so it can actually be an option to Fix It Yourself.

Thanks for sharing great save of vintage vises.

Though my career path didn't have me turning wrenches professionally, so much of my practical experience started in the "garage" at school. Rarely a day goes by in my life that wasn't positively influenced by a lesson learnt in the school shop. We all have an obligation to help where we can.
