I bought this bench grinder last summer at a yard sale. I think I paid 20 bucks for it. I did some research but I can't find anything about it online. I searched this forum and found only a couple bench grinder restoration threads so I figured I would add my own. This is what I started with.

As you can see there's no on/off switch and the one hole for mounting it to the bench is broken.

If you have seen my gallery thread you know I'm just starting out. This is the first thing I have ever restored.

I started with a tear down. Took it all apart and got all the paint off with a wire cup brush on my angle grinder. The old owner had painted yellow. The original color was a deep red. The angle grinder made short work of the paint. I was surprised to see the original grinding wheels on it.

After a complete tear down and cleaning I sprayed on primer and paint. I decided on a two tone color scheme but nothing too crazy. Here is how it looks now painted and reassembled.

I still have to install the toggle switch and power her up. There's a ton that I have learned from this project. Mostly that I'm not good at painting haha. I know that this paint will come off after a while and I plan on getting it powder coated when that happens but this will last until I have more funds.

I always love to learn and I would love any suggestions on what I could've done better. I do enjoy some good old constructive criticism. More pics tomorrow guys!

Very Cool! I really like the tool rests on those B&Ds.

My first resto was my Boice-Crane bench grinder...thanks to GJ...and it is rewarding! I'm on my 2nd one now and got a few more in line...but now vises are getting in the way. lol.

IDK about you, but there is a lot of time that goes into doing these. I ended up putting a lot more man hours into mine than anticipated...which is fine. Here's my link in case you're interested. http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=179823

Great job again!

Your thread was the one that inspired me to go with a two tone paint scheme. I liked the way yours looked with a lighter color in the middle and a more bold one on the outside. So that's what I went for. This was an fun project for me and it took me much longer than I anticipated. Well worth it!

Nice! That's funny you say that because this one on GJ from Torqueman2002 - http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1547932 -inspired me to do mine two tone as well. It's two-tone and the way I want to do my C-Man block grinder as well.

Here is the final product. Just have to find a spot for it and hardwire it up. Hopefully will get done this weekend. It feels good to be out in the garage getting stuff done!

Pretty grinder. What horsepower and wheel diameter?

jack vines

its 7in wheel, horsepower i'm not sure. i'm thinking its 1/4hp. all the name plate gives is volts as 110, amps i cant read and rpm is 3600. will find amps by testing tomorrow then i will try to calculate horsepower. if anyone has any info on this please let me know.
