Feb 8th. Five hours in the evening laying the plywood subfloor above the high bay. Got 5 full pieces installed before calling it quits for the evening.

Feb 9th. Remainder of the plywood installed, some scrap pieces installed over the vaulted window openings, and tarps pulled over the whole shebang. Some rough weather Sunday, some wind driven rain under the tarps, but the continued wind today will dry it out. I'll no doubt be up there tonight resetting tarps..... 50 mph winds in the forecast.

Feb 11th. 3 hours after work..... the first hour spent putting the tarps back, and attaching them a little better. Then two hours measuring for, and cutting the studs for, the central wall (above the high bay storage floor, below the ridge beam) and the high bay knee wall.

Feb 12th. 5 hours after work..... built three sections of knee wall for above the high bay, and two sections of central wall. A late night, but good progress.

My plan is to frame the soffits next and attach them to the outside wall, then erect the knee wall and central wall. After this I can make up a couple of rafter templates and get going on the roof on that side.

Some "ok" pictures of the high bay progress.....

High Bay Deck in Place 1.jpg

This is looking from the front, you can see the stairwell open to the rear left of the high bay. Stairs will eventually run up along the back wall from right to left.

High Bay Deck in Place 2.jpg

This is a view from the rear of the garage, you can see where I put scrap pieces of plywood over the cutouts in the deck for the vaulted window openings.

Sorry for the picture quality, not easy to get good shots of everything in one picture.

Beautiful weekend and I couldn't get out there. Only managed a few hours on Friday night (Feb 15th) to build the soffit framing for the high bay side. Ugh. Need to make better progress than this.

Last Monday they even still had power tools. Milwaukee circ saws for $50, dewalt 18v set for $129, ratchets, sockets, snow blowers, a shitload of paint. I'd say 2/3 of the inventory was still on the shelves.

wow wish Id have known, kanakee here I make the trip up rt 45 all the time... wife and kid like going to orland.

been in the area all my life grew up in Monee...

what kind of a lift? I know a great guy here in Kankakee that can get parts for about all of em, helped me greatly with my Weaver.

BTW I got my lift also from CL but had to go a bit farther (Westmont)

Finally got back out there, figured I had last night and I'll have some time this evening to get a little done before the 4-6 inches of white stuff comes later tonight.

Feb 21st. Mounted the (3) sections of framed soffit to the side of the high bay wall. Working from my neighbor's yard, I used ratchet straps to hand them in place, then shot a couple of screws in strategic locations to set them in place. The ratchet straps are still there to hold them level until the rafters are set in place.

After that I moved back into the garage and installed a (3)x2x8 header over the half width garage door opening in the back left corner, and installed the cripples underneath.

Tonight I am hoping to get a little sheathing done, then tomorrow I'll be cleaning whatever snow depth we get off the high bay deck so I can get up there this weekend to start the roof framing.

Feb 21st. A pretty low key evening..... I hung a piece of plywood across the shed doorway to help close in that corner, and then relocated the remaining sheets of plywood from the driveway to inside the back of the garage, out of the elements. A couple of inches of heavy snow overnight, I'll be clearing it tonight in preparation for working on roof framing tomorrow and Sunday.

Feb 23rd. 7am to 10.30 pm. Got all 17 rafters cut for the steep pitch on the high bay side. Three notches cut into each board, one for the upper knee wall, one for the ribbon joist, one for the soffit. Seat cuts with the miter saw, tail cuts with the circular saw and finished by hand. I actually cut 6 and installed them before dark, then cut the other 11 at night.

Feb 24th. 8am to 11am and 1.30pm to 8.30pm. Installed the remaining rafters and nailed them all into place, then tidied up the mayhem from all the cutting.

Pictures to follow.

Feb 25th. 3 hours to pull the tarps, install the upper section of the center wall, and re-attach the tarps with a little better coverage for the incoming rain/snow mix today. The tarps on the plywood floors should be able to stay in place now until I have the place under roof.

Been a while since I updated progress, but I've been pretty busy - both working on the garage and other stuff too. The roof is completely framed, and shingled by my wife's uncle and his friend. All four dormer windows are in, as is one downstairs. The workshop gable ends have been framed, just need to frame the short section above the high bay before I plywood the gable ends, install three more windows and get this place closed in.

Working on getting pictures to upload.....

The fence next to the garage is set temporarily in stone, those come out soon and the corner at the back of the garage can be closed in. We're also installing a small run between the house and the garage with a 4 ft gate.

On the side facing the yard, there will be a man door at the corner by the house, and a half width garage door at the corner towards the back of the yard. One window upstairs in the back, two in the front above the garage doors.

Latest picture..... front is closed in and the windows installed. Need to finish off closing in the back, two more sheets of plywood, Tyvek and one window and I'm about there.

Yep, lot of work. My wife is a self-proclaimed garage widow.... and it isn't even fully built yet. Aside from the roof sheathing and shingles, and some help lifting the walls into place..... it has been all me. Sometimes I wish I had more help, sometimes I'm very proud of what I have been able to accomplish on my own. I am a pretty handy guy, but this is by far the biggest thing I've ever taken on.
