Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Finally got my old (54 model) Colchester Student under full power. Looks scabby. Runs good. I'd like to find a more suitable (smaller) three jaw chuck.

Ya it does!!! :bounce: Wish I had that beauty! Any plans to refurb and paint?

Mocked up new door panels for the wifes 81 Trans Am, then installed the new garage door opener lights

Pics? I just bought an 81 TA convertible for Mrs E-tek....

Added some more garage '****'. Stop sign, Pirelli light, and Jag logo. More to come this week, then I am finished.
Cheers,
Bruce

AWESOME - really nice space!!!

Diamond ground all 3500 sq ft, for 13 hours straight.

OUCH! Should look great tho...

Not in per se but just outside. I purchased some of the new Duplicolor Tire shine that's a paint.

This is one of the old tires on the truck. One can coated 4 -18'' tires on both sides with some left over.

This stuff is - how the kids say....the Schizell (Shizzle? Schnitzle?). Gonna use it on all my rides this summer!

Still waiting on my tires and rims back. The dealership I left them with scratched one of the rims, so it's being refinished yet again. Good thing I'm in no hurry.

That is interesting. That is a Tecumseh engine air filter assembly. Is that factory on that compressor?

Yep, it's a tecumseh part! the original got smashed so the parts bin was a cheap solution. the home centers were within about a millimeter, so nothing a little filing couldn't fix.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Started with replacing a radiator hose on the IH 424, that progressed to the fan belt...then I noticed a leaky gasket...then the water pump shaft seemed a little loose...then I found a broken weld ...so.....

2hzondd.jpg

Since I took it down this far the bumper and headlight/grill assembly will be coming off for painting and the radiator will be getting some repair as well.

anlsnt.jpg

The pulley and fan was rusted to the water pump so I had to take it out as one unit, meaning the governor had to be partially removed, the fan shroud taken out etc.

$150 right there

This is the problem with an old tractor, the more I tear into it the more I see and it never stops. I am now redoing the headlight wiring while I am at it and painting some other parts...meanwhile I have to use the Kubota to plow and its just a bit small for the task.

Yesterday, I finally received the CTR projector headlights I ordered 14 months ago... So of course I had to install them right away. I also started to install a FuzeBlock to run my gauge controller, EDFC and Passport 9500ix.

Finally not freezing out. 55 yesterday and 65 today. Went from not being able to walk into the garage to I pulled my car in to lift up and look at the suspension. Need a right side ball joint and a left side inner tie rod.

Removed a dead mouse from the HVAC blower on my wife's SUV. The mouse was not dead when he began his merry-go-round ride.

Made a toddler potty for my three kids to use in my garage. It was quick and simple. I used a 4 gallon bucket that I had picked up this summer and a plastic coffee can. The coffee can snaps in tight.

Changed oil, air filter, brake pads and rotated tires on my wifes car. Serviced the mower to get it ready for cutting season (sharpened blades, changed oil, cleaned out deck) and removed the television components from an old floor tv that is in the big wooden case. Wife wants to turn it into a fish bowl or dog bed or other such nonsense she found on pinterest.

Stripped the bumper, grill and under-apron off my old truck. I'm trying to get her in summer shape as my weekend driver.

Cheap siphon sandblaster, Naval jelly, Ospho to remove this, OR KBS (like POR-15) right over this level of rust? Opinions appeciated.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Leaned against the Snap-On rollaway my friend and Snap-On dealer sold me and hoisted a beer to him. I saved for years for that thing. He treated me right with tool prices, and was one of my best friends. He died of a heart attack about a week ago. Good friend, and I will have things from him that will out live me and my kids. I will miss you Brian Owen!

Life goes on my friends, and the death rate is still 100%. I am a Christian guy, so I hope to see him again. (Not too soon, though)!

I welded pieces on top of pieces in the hope that this POS will make it thru the rest of the season.

Were you able to find a store that had some color selection? All I can find is black. I'd like a warm silver grey for some dash trim in my Ranger. The online 'who carries plasti dip' tool is useless.

Hope you'll post up a beauty shot when they're done!

I tapped some new holes in a Wilton vise and made custom fasteners to fit the jaws. Ending up saving a nice vise from the scrap heap.

Checked the fluid level in my diffs...also realized that I might want to change my front inner axle seals soon. Fluid in the front diff doesn't look very good :)

Cleared off my old Cman bottom, plopped the Formica sink cutout on it and voila, instant portable work table to do my first master cylinder with ABS attached swap. Next up, pull the MAF and clean it.

I went in, looked around, thought about what I really should be doing, then fired up the motorcycle and went to the coffee shop. :)

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Pulled the car in again. Exhaust coming out of the turbo has a busted stud and leaked a little until the gasket must have blown out on the way home today. It's LOUD now.

I'm only a mechanic by necessity. I actually hate working on the car. I get terrible headaches from laying on my back trying to work up above me. I have limited tools, read as I use a hammer and a scraper to change brakes. Ok, I'm not that bad, but I also have no money. Just spent a ton of money since I bought an Ohio car for Wifey and had to pay PA tax plus inspection, just put 4 tires, struts and shocks and an alignment on my car, which I then found out after the shop did that work, I have a bad ball joint on one side and bad inner tie rod on the other side. How do you align a car with a bad ball joint and tie-rod? Doesn't matter, it is useless to go ***** about that, I won't step foot in their shop again. Now I have an exhaust leak.

I'm so tired of spending freakin money I don't have and having to work in 20° cold on a giant chunk of metal with metal instruments! I may have to have my fingers amputated from frostbite, where is freakin spring? Someone tell me please!

Good news it, Wifey is off work this weekend, so it won't be a 35 mile walk to go get the studs I need for the turbo. I have no idea how to remove the old broken off stud. I hope there's at least enough to grab with vice grips.

Have to say though, even though I hate working on the car, mainly because I need to fix things to get to work rather than it being a play toy, it is satisfying after the fact knowing what it would cost to have it fixed, especially something like the $29 head gasket on the old million mile Honda that a shop wanted $1200 to do, or the $100 I put in the clutch that a shop also wanted $1200 to do.
