Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Maybe something today, but I doubt it. Freezing rain and snowing, 28° today. Need to stop after work and pick up my studs, exhaust gasket (dealer only for those), tie rod, and ball joint.

This past weekend the car went in, up on jack stands, had a look, but didn't make it to get parts (I'm 40 miles from everything.) Kid was sick and Wifey worries now a lot about the weather since she went on her lid in January, so I didn't go to keep her mind at peace.

This constant cold is really getting depressing. I have house work to do, car work to do, garden work to start. Last year at this time I was outside in a t-shirt setting up a new garden.

Flush-trimming the side panals of my solid 2x12 ramps, getting them ready for paint. I'll post pics soon as I get some AA's re-charged for my camera! I'm in the sign biz (side job for now) so, naturally, I have to decide on the graphics to put on the sides, as well.

2 x 12's beveled front edges, staggered 'stair-step fashion' on top of each other at a slope that allows the lowest car in the family to go up it without hitting an air dam.

Just took possession of my garage.

Parked my Mini Cooper in it.

Time to clean out the shelfs and bench that the previous owner left for me so I can get started on wiring it up for my welder and some real lighting.

The garage isnt huge and its not well finished but I can certainly make due with it to support my small fabrication hobby shop once I get it wired.

I finally finished my compressor installation, wiring, plumbing, run in and pressure test. Found one leak.......the hose hanging out of the hose reel has a bad crimp at the fitting.

I'm tempted to just use a hose clamp and leave it at that.

took apart the vacuum cleaner and cleaned the brushes on the motor, re-positioned the belt and blew everything out with the air compressor. Works MUCH better now.

Pulled the rear hub and drum assemblies off my Scout 800, trying to troubleshoot why this thing pulls so hard right while braking

Picked up my parts yesterday. In the garage, measured the tie-rod to see what wrench I need to borrow at work, fingers freezing too quickly, car covered in ice, I'll wait until Saturday when it should get above freezing to tear into the car. I'm a wuss.

Finally located some long stem door rollers for my 12'x20' shop door. I had one come apart last week and have been trying to find some locally.

After replacing all 14 of the door rollers I serviced a customers 48RE transmission in his 06 Dodge 2500 Cummins.

That it is, 7M love here though, I hate the 1JZ, would consider 2JZ though.

But I'd be putting a 1UZ v8 in this if I ever decide to ditch the 7M

Loaded some 36 grit sanding belts on to the drum sander. Sanded a couple of 10' x 4" x 27" slabs of spalted alder for a friend.

Picked up the final wheel from the shop to put the Spitfire on a set of rollers. Now it's raining out and I don't want to go out. Bah.

I've been spending time fitting the bumper, trim and emblems to my '56 Thunderbird. Car has been away at paint for a while and glad to get it back. It's fun in the garage doing the final assembly.

It's actually gone back together pretty quickly, there's a few pieces needing to rechrome, and some mechanical bits to attend to. Not too bad.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Last night I was able to get started on a 1999 Harley Road King that a guy dropped off Sunday for some new rear shocks and its' 50k mile service. I drained the fluids and started checking it over.

About an hour before closing shop I started detailing my 04 H-D Ultra Classic now that the engine is back together. The previous owner had painted a car last summer and got overspray all over the bike. Not a lot but enough that the top flat surfaces feel like sandpaper. I took some 0000 steel wool and started on the chrome surfaces last night. I think if I tackle a few pieces for about a half hour/hour each night within the next week or so it should be ready to ride.

Started work on a dash insert for my '82 Pickup.

Took a couple of tries to get the spacing for the cutouts just right:

Absolutely gorgeous. I wish I would have been able to find something like that in my 1986 Suburban. I installed Auto Meter gauges in the four left side holes and used the OEM speedo and tach. Looked good but yours looks fantastic.

Got a quote yesterday for double-walled insulated garage doors, looking like we will be adding windows to the doors as well to get some natural light into the shop area.

Hung another shelf...I'd add it to my build thread but no one ever replied on it so I'll just keep talking to myself.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Diagnosed a customers' Chevrolet Venture and concluded it needs a transmission overhaul. Contacted customer, they decided the van wasn't worth the cost/investment of a new trans. It's a minivan, I could have told them that.:shocking:

While waiting for them to pick the Venture up I decided to get back on another customers 1999 H-D Road King. About a half hour before closing up shop I polished the right saddlebag on my new to me Ultra Classic and removed the rear luggage rack in preperation for tonights polishing.

Thanks Mike. If you ever want to change yours out, here's the link to the dash insert (I bought it through Summit).
