I hope it's not on april 6th.. I really want to go!

check out the link at the bottom of this page.......there is already a thread on the party which is april 27th.

Is that a stairway to heaven?

Well, you might say it is. That is a stair master and my wife gets on it about 4 am every morning before she goes to the gym at 5 am. It is the stairway to heaven because she has one unbelievable figure:drool: because of all the working out she does:bounce: She has better lines than my 41 Willys if that puts it in perspective!!!!

I've asked my wife if we're free on the 27th and she wanted to know why. The conversation went like this................

"Because there's a party"
"Yes that's sounds good. Where is it?"
Cough mutter "Florida"
"Florida. As in America?"
"Yes"
"If you're paying the airfares then yes"

So.................Have a good one and post up plenty of pictures.

Okay, we believe you, honest we do! It's just that we'd also like to see a pic or two (or a dozen) to prove it to us. lol

If you taunt me enough I will. I have some contest photos of her recently..........maybe I could put my head on her body just so I dont expose her face:dunno::lol_hitti I mean, she is nice looking but not sure if she wants her face shown.

Absolutely brilliant work. You have 2 garages in one house that each are bigger than my house. One day...

Thank you!! I cant say this is the smartest move I have ever made but it is surely the funnest one;)

It was a great day for Woody today. My niece and her 3 year old came by and Woody got some much needed attention. I think it improved his spirits because he put in a pretty good days work today.

The Chevelle's body is looking pretty good. Bob was finishing up with the seam sealer today. The doors have been on the car once but found a little bit more work was needed on the passenger side door. The truck has been fitted and is pretty close to being ready. The undercarriage has been completely sanded and primed and is ready for paint when the time comes.

Mark, For some reason I keep getting an idea of Wilson from Home Improvement. Never saw his face on camera and they had many clever ways of concealing it...
his8-03.jpg

Maybe Mrs. XS can be behind the 4-post or Chevelle on the rotisserie...

Not that I would ever taunt, I just had creative ideas at the same time!

After we had our 4 posts and cross members installed on the Greg Smith Equipment lift it was time for the ramps. This part of the process I would recommend 4 guys. The ramps are heavy and one of the ramps has the hydraulic ram. The secret to this part is measuring and spacing out the posts so when you set the ramps down they set into place. Two bolts on either side hold the ramps in place. p.s. Bob's wife Deanna in the corner. She hates it when I take pictures of her:D

DSC_0410.jpg

After the 2nd ramp is in place and bolted in there are a few minor things to do. The cable system is already routed in the ramps and each cable is routed around a pulley and then bolted at the top of each post. We mounted the hydraulic pump in the back corner out of sight, attached the hydraulic hose, and filled the pump reservoir with around 3 gallons of hydraulic fluid. The last job was to install the safety latch cables. This lift locks in place every 6 inches on its way up. While lowering the lift there is one handle located next to the pump that keeps the locks disengaged as you lower the lift.

This lift also came with a heavy duty jack tray, 3 drip pans, and 4 heavy duty casters. The nice feature of this 4 post lift is it can be moved around your shop when the caster wheels are on it. They attach in minutes.

DSC_0413.jpg

And the end result:D As I mentioned earlier I got the extra tall lift so I could fit a taller vehicle under the top vehicle.....in this case the suburban. Just being able to keep one more vehicle out of the monster garage is nice.

I have already put this lift into use. When I pulled the Willys out of the garage I had a big scare..........no brakes:yikes: I darn near had to throw it in park. The first order of business today was to remove the master cylinder which is frame mounted. I think the master cylinder failed because there was plenty of fluid in the reservoir and no leaks in any of the brake lines. I guess you shouldnt let cars sit around so much. :headscrat

I really like this lift and I can see it has many benefits not found on a 2 poster. If I had my choice of one lift it would be a 2 poster but this 4 post is the cats pajama's. I am thinking let the wife cool down a bit on this purchase and then sneak one in over in the monster garage.

Just a "little crazy"?! Damn, I must be slipping; I thought I was a 'LOT :tard: CRAZY'! LOL

Your a lot crazy dude:lol_hitti

Tomorrow we start to work on finishing the build room. As I look back I see I did not post many pictures of the room. I was not too proud of it because it was unfinished. With this upcoming party I have the inspiration to finish it.

I have been looking for a theme. I thought about a vintage gas station theme and a Vintage Chevrolet Dealership theme. I have ruled both of those out in favor of a Vintage Monster Garage theme. The overall perspective is I want it to look old. Therefore the top 5 feet of the outside of the build room/ parts loft will be corregated metal. This might signify a roof or a second story. The bottom 10 feet will be smooth concrete stucco. I am bringing in the artist who did a bunch of work on the inside of our home to antique the stucco to make it look old.

Now, I know most of you guys would already have a rendering of this idea all drawn up and you would know what it looked like before you did it which is probably the right way to do it.......not me I am going with my typical get started on the project and see where I end up.

There are going to be 4 phases of this project....

Drywall.......the ceiling of the build room will be drywalled. It will be finished smooth because I dont want any rough surfaces that will attract dust. I will also be drywalling the ceiling in the main garage where we added on the stairway up to the parts room.

Next week we will be putting a smooth finish stucco surface on the lower 10 ft of the exterior of the build room.

Hopefully by next weekend we will start installing the metal and finally

The artist will show up and put it all together.

Wish me good luck!!!

So, do you think this artist will have an idea of where you're coming from, or will it require the both of you to synergize via 'The Vulcan Mind-Meld'? Sometimes it's best to allow an artist to interpret an idea 'unfettered by reality'. lol Other times, an artist needs to have some 'creative consultation' with the client; be careful what you ask for - you may just get it! Maybe, it behooves you to start Googling some images for reference. Is this kind of the direction you want to go?

Mark, I have been a long time lurker on this thread and I love everything you have done with the garage! A few months back someone requested a picture of your compressor setup. Could you post that? I remember you saying it was outside to cut down on noise in the garage, I'm thinking of doing the same in mine. Thanks

Oh man that is cool. I like it! I will try to post a rough sketch of what i want and we can figure this out!!!

Nice garage

thank you very much..........question...why does Canadian Charlie live in southern europe;)

Mark, Sounds like motivation has created inspiration and you are moving forward. For some more ideas, I'm sure you've spent time looking at Don's Big Party Garage and Kiwi Kev's Hot Rod Shop.
And this shot is just Sweet! Kinda brings everything together in one shot!

Don and Kiwi kev are two of my favorites. There is no way i can reach the magnitude of Don's layout or reach the cool factor of Kiwi Kev's joint. Both really farout places.

I know I got lazy on that one. I am getting ready to redo some of my lines. I will get some pics and post them and I am sure I will get some helpful advise on what to do. I have two compressors now.

How come you don't have any tires mounted on those nice rims on the Suburban? :)

Ha ha mr. funny pants:lol:

I took a picture this morning of the room we built in the garage a few months ago. The bottom of the room is what we call the build/ paint room. There is a high velocity wall fan in there and it is a great place for dirty work and priming. The stairs lead up to a loft where we have lots of shelving for parts. Above the blue scaffold you see a set of short stairs that lead up to the attic above the garage. it is about 8 feet tall up there and i use it for storage of personal stuff.

This morning the drywall guys showed up. This is a picture of the inside of the build room. It has been open rafters and studs which is a great place to store dust. I know, this is suppose to be a DIY forum but I wasnt going to mess with the drywall. I was ready for instant gratification. Anyway, we use this room almost everyday so I needed it done. Needless to say at the end of today it is all drywalled and finished. I will get some pictures tomorrow.

DSC_0443.jpg

I have to take pictures of Deanna when she does not expect it or something gets thrown at me:lol: The last few days we had about $6000 of parts show up from Ecklers Chevelle and she is checking them in.........lots and lots of parts. We have already ordered enough parts from Ecklers that we are getting 20 percent off which is a nice discount.

That would be cool but it might get a little scratched up!!

As you might have noticed I am a truck guy. I have always loved big trucks with big wheels. My dually is the first truck I have not run right out to buy new tires and wheels for. These car projects have put a damper in just going out to buy something cool so I have been patiently waiting to get some respectable wear on the stock tires before changing them out. So here is a before picture of my dually with the old tires and wheels on them. The factory hubcaps looked OK but I felt just like one of the other dually's running around.

037F1600-5A76-4911-963B-D9CA27902AA0-4735-000001ED15BEAF3A.jpg

I ordered some Nitto Dura Grappler 285/75-17's to go on the stock wheels. At close to 34 inches tall they look more in perspective on the truck than the original tires. I had been eyeballing some black custom wheels but really didnt see anything that excited me. Yesterday I decided to pull the factory chrome trim rings off and paint the original steel wheels black. I then re-installed the factory chrome caps and I was in love with the new look. My wife looked at it and said "OH, I dont like it.....I just thought you were half done with the project" It feels new to me and I am sticking with it for now. I am thinking of having a vinyl graphics guy do my hood in satin black and from the bottom of the windows up in black as well. I like the vinyl because when you are done with the look you can pull it off and return your vehicle to the stock look. So if there is a good photoshop guy out there let me see what it would look like.:D

Today we worked on putting the band around the build room. The band sticks out about 2 inches from the face of the room. This band will be stuccoed and everything below it. A photoshop expert I am not:) but I planned on putting some kind of lettering on it.......maybe. Just playing around with it a bit.

Omphaloskeptic can be held responsible for this idea. He came up with a logo for the garage so I added a circle on the stairway side of the room for some kind of logo. He came up with the flame logo which is cool and I found another idea on the internet.

I am fishing for ideas so if you got one now is the time to speak up:thumbup:

You might be a redneck if you use some bed frames as a brace to weld to the windshield pillar to secure it while you replace the header bow:bounce:

Dang! Everybody I know says I'm IRRESPONSIBLE! LOL

I've got a question for you guys actually running a business; can you claim tax deductions for business expenses like 'signage', depreciation on business expenses like 'bed frames' lol and the like? Other stuff like business construction costs, inventory storage area, consumables, and other unspecified costs may be a 'gray area' as far as your tax accountant is concerned. :dunno:

Those bedframes are a great source of cheap angle iron. They can be found at garage sales for $5 - 20. Much cheaper than buying the same material at the big box store.

Great idea Mark, let me know if you want some vinyl lettering/logos cut. I bought a cutter/plotter a couple years back when I had a bunch of signage to make. It was cheaper to buy the equipment than pay someone else to do it!

Absolutely, you dont think the 4 post lift I bought isnt tax deductable do you:lol:.....everything you mentioned can be written off as a business expense....even the bedframe!!

Got that right!

I just grab any that I can find LOL

They were laying in a storage area and when I saw Bob had picked them I laughed my **** off. They are giving steel away any more so what the heck use what you got.

That is a very generous offer from you......thank you:thumbup: I am going to have the painter guy do it so it looks old. This picture is kind of what I want to do.........see how old it looks, a little rust running down the side and the old signage. This guy can make it look like this.

ByarsChevrolet-1.jpg

Can you tell Deanna we would like to see a photo of her as she looks like a hard worker.
Good on her for getting involved and helping out.

I will ask her..........she hates it when I bring the camera out especially after this last week when I played a joke on her. A guy brought an old fiberglass Willys jeep body over to the garage. I asked her to stand over by it. She did not realize the guy had named the jeep "Mud ****" and it was painted on the back right next to where she was standing. Well, I snapped the picture before she knew what was happening. She is ready to kill me!!!! Husband Bob just laughed.....I guess I take the pressure off of him by doing stupid stuff like this to make her mad.

OK, just got the approval on this picture. Yes, she used to operate a pay loader.;)

Hey Mark, I'm sure most realize this, but the Monster Garage flamed logo is from Jesse James's old TV show. It was on Discovery channel, hence the globe under the "Garage". I'm sure your artist can mesh several ideas and styles together, creating something cool and unique for your unique space.

You know, with everything you've shown us so far, our expectations are very high! I really can't freaking wait to see it, I've always wanted a "vintage" shop inside my new shop. Awesome stuff as usual, buddy!

And to think I've been trying to sell a couple of old bed frames in our garage-sale that last few years. I'm now rethinking that. Maybe just cut off the extras and save the angle iron in the corner for future use.

I am looking forward to coming up with something unique for the shop. The stucco guys should be here tomorrow so we dont have much time to waste. :D

Don't forget a key word on your signage ..... "MARK'S" MONSTER GARAGE.

Ha ha.....kind of sounds catchy doesnt it?;)
