...and today I bought a complete metric set of 3/8" Williams 12-point sockets, and an Armstrong locking ratchet to match. This, less than a week after a 6-32 mm set of NOS Hazet open-end wrenches that have yet to arrive. Please, please don't tell me wife.

I'm in the same boat. Just ordered a set of Wright Wrightgrip metric wrenches (part #958), and have been looking into Williams socket sets to add/upgrade my Crafsman stuff. Got an SK set of SAE and metric 6 points (standard and deep of each) and was not very happy with the quality of the finishes, very inconsistent from one socket to the next. I could have done better with a mail order DIY chrome kit.

You're telling me! I've got $300 worth of stuff lingering in my cart at tooltopia.com right now. This is after I spent $250 a week ago on another site. I also spent $260 over the weekend at an auction and estate sale.

Yeah, so far it's been a couple of Armstrong ratchets, and two sets of ratcheting box wrenches. But the cordless 3/8" impact wrench is coming soon, along with some impact sockets (probably Milwaukee and Sunex respectively) and some Snap On Dual 80 ratchets, and probably some German wrenches... Hazet, maybe? Probably some Wiha screwdrivers, too.

Need to get a roll cab when I get moved back into a house with a garage.

Spent 200 this week here, going to spend 5 or 600 this weekend at an auction. My wife goes with me, and likes it!

Well it ain't an AA site for Tool-a-holics that's for sure!

Sweet. Just what I needed - another habit.

I picked up an eBay Hazet set. I'll post them here when I get them, hopefully sometime this week! I figure screwdrivers are the next thing for me to plough a bunch of money into... I'm actually really pleased with my current Westward crop, but I'm sure I'll get the "I need nicer ______" bug.

Luckily, my wife wants a rolling cabinet to supplement the small toolbox we have in the garage now. Unfortunately, she'll fill it to the gills with ski tuning stuff!

Yeah tell me about it! After hearing about all the chinese craftsman stuff out there I decided to get some of the last american sets of both SAE and metric sockets and wrenches mainly because I wanted some reasonably priced american tools to take in my portable tool boxes, mostly for my Model A when I'm out on tour. I also just dropped almost $250 on a BOGO SK bit socket set (but you get two different types and only overlap a few torx bits) from tooltopia. Most of the tools I've been buying since getting on here I had planned to get *at some point* but had no real reason to get them right away and for some reason I felt compelled to bump some of those things up on the priority list. I also started getting some organizational stuff for my tool box like wrench racks and hanson trays... of course that led to the purchase of a few more wrenches and I can't have empty pegs on those stupid hanson trays! :willy_nil One of the only suppliers of 5/8" deep well 1/4 drive sockets for the hanson tray is blue point, and I had been thinking about getting some snap on ratchets for years and since I was ordering a blue point socket I might as well throw in an F80 ratchet..... you can see where this is going? Yeah its not good....:lol_hitti

Yep...this place is bad news.

I joined in January...and have been shopping ever since. It's not like I didn't have plenty of tools before, it's just that now I have more. In all seriousness I don't think a week has gone by that I haven't purchased something...mostly because of this site.

I did however get to jump on some USA Craftsman stuff before it's all outsourced to China, so it's not all bad. I wouldn't have known that if I hadn't joined. In addition I picked up a Snap On ratcheting screwdriver from the classified section and am getting some retro SK's for my father.

What this site does is remind you of all the times there would have been a better tool for the job...and then makes you want to buy that tool.

The main reason I skim through this forum regularly is to find out about tools that are out there that I don't know about, but then discover that they can make a job easier...and also to find out about tools that I knew where out there, but never realized it could benefit me until I hear someone on here talk about how great it works or how much easier it makes a job go. I'm obsessed with having the right tool for the job and/or having the tool that will make it go as easily as possible. I can appreciate the concept of "making do" with the tools you have and getting by with a smaller set of tools, which I know can be an indication of a skilled worker, but if I can afford a tool that will make life easier, then I want it!

Well said sir. And because of this place, I now have a dedicated digital camera for the tool box. Thanks to Goodwill;)

My name is Dan and... I have a problem.

I joined this Garage Journal 12 step program to help me with my addiction to collect tools of all types and sizes regardless if I had them already or if I would ever actually need or use them.

Thankfully the 12 steps all led me to the hardware store. :)

Whew! I was worried you guys would try to do something silly like talk me out of obtaining more tools!

It's not just money it's costing, it's time too!

I've gone through the 9100+ posts on the toolbox thread, and am on the vintage toolbox thread. I think it'll be the harbor freight cart mod thread after that.

Argh! It's neverending.

Thanks to this place I need a bigger tool box now. The good thing is I discovered the china outsourcing of craftsman here and found brands less expensive than tool trucks to take Craftsmans place. I have also been buying USA craftsman before its all gone. Just bought all 3 socket modules recently when they went half off. Besides Cornwell and snap on I now buy some Williams and wright tool. I have a industrial tool supply company that carries both in stock all the time and it's like 10 min from my house. Not good

Thanks to this place I need a bigger tool box now.

That's the downward spiral nobody told me. I upgraded to a larger, much larger, box than I already had. As soon as I opened the first drawer when I got it, an insatiable urge to fill that drawer overcame me. After opening several more I felt the need to have the box filled by the end of the week. If that happens, I'll need a bigger box again...see downward spiral. :D

I kinda dig Hazet's box end set, I can see me ordering that one from Samstag Sales in a month or two. Seems that I have been looking at the Hazet, Gedore, and Stahlwille tools about every two days...

And then there's the damn 'Tools from Japan/Nepros' threads...

Be glad you dont have access to the tool trucks. I swear my mouth literally starts salivating, my hands start twitching Monday and Tuesday mornings about a half hour before the Matco, Cornwell and Snap On trucks arrive.:Twitch:

I do have access and I enjoy going and seeing if the Snap-On guy is at the shops near my house on Thursdays. Nice to BS and see what the promos are this week/month. Got a good deal on an FLL80 this week. I'd like to see an Epiq in person, not a fan of latching drawers though.

Funny, I've been spending money, but SAVING tons of it too.

I go to estate sales now, pretty much every week, and usually spend on tools. But I've been getting great quality HOUSEHOLD stuff for pennies, and that is making my wife happy. (Kid stuff too. That stuff is EXPENSIVE. If you think tools cost a lot, start having kids :) )

I've also had good luck SELLING a bunch of stuff I've bought at the sales.

Pawn shops too. I hadn't been in one more than once or twice before finding GJ. Now I stop in whenever I have the time and I pass a likely suspect. I've been getting great stuff too.

The best way this site has saved me money is from the good advice members have shared. Picking up a classic tool addiction was well worth it when put against all the money I've saved by being able to fix things, and keep things from breaking.

And the biggest benefit-- the slow process of cleaning out my garage and shop. That was completely motivated by several of the build logs on here. (thank you Bill for sharing your journey.)

So don't sweat your new found addiction, just find ways to make it pay! (and keep track of all you save BECAUSE you have the tools.)

Welcome aboard! (one of us, one of us, one of us.....)
