"specialty" tools that you wouldn't usually buy because you won't use it that often. Household things you might want or need. Cooking things. Computer things. Stereo for the garage. TV for the garage.

There is just way to many options without knowing what you have or what you like to do or are into. Just pick something you normally wouldn't buy and pull the trigger and enjoy it.

ok.. i fix/maintain/modify BMWs mostly, and many of my friends and neighbors cars (other makes). I also fix/maintain/renovate our own home projects... occasionally help friends with their home projects too. and lately, with the kids, i find myself fixing broken toys a lot LOL!

i wouldn't mind a new all-in-one computer for the garage.. old one i have is bulky and getting a bit slow... but that's probably more than $500.

login to your account. Load the gift cards into your Amazon account. Then, wait. They don't expire. Wait until there is something you actually need and then use them. Using them just because you have them is a pretty bad financial plan.

Personally, I would wait until birthdays and Christmas and use them to pay for gifts.

You know... you reminded me that for the longest time I wanted that exact table saw... kept looking on CL to see if I could find one; kept missing it. Finally stopped looking for it and have been using a circular saw with a straight edge clamped on to do rip cuts.

Stock up on Toilet Paper?

That one made me laugh!!! I can't even imagine how to store that much TP.

Good advice sir!

Using the gift of someone else to pay for the gifts of someone else? Seems shallow to me

i don't think so... personal opinion.

consider these gift cards were given to me as a reward from my employer for doing a kick-*** job, i don't see it as using a gift to pay for a gift. also, even if it was a gift, it's a cash equivalent gift. i would agree with you more if someone bought something thoughtful for me and i re-packaged it and gave it to someone else. in that situation, you're sort of throwing out someone's thoughtfulness in picking a gift for you and mindlessly giving it to someone else since you don't want it. but then again, there's always that someone who thinks they are being thoughtful when they are not. reminds me of those Lexus and Mercedes commercials where someone wakes up on X-mas day and there's a car in the drive way with a bow on it.... unless the giver fully paid for the vehicle and not just put a down payment, i'm just thinking "dude... you just gave me a $900/mo car payment for 4 yrs!! not to mention auto insurance..."

Assuming you have a chop saw and a good cordless drill (or two)... the table saw is a necessity (if you have room for one). Treat it with respect and you will find it extremely useful.

Build a crosscut sled and you will never want to use the circular saw again.
