Re: Snap-On Floor jack rebuild

I need a replacement floor jack wheel.

I have a 1.5 (one and a half) ton floor garage jack from Sears. I busted the rear wheel on it (the smaller ones) since I dropped it and I need to buy a wheel for it, I really should get two.

The sears MODEL number is #727-12102 (or Blackhawk SJ-2). It is an older model made in the 70's, Sears no longer has the wheel listed. I went to the store to see if the clerk can match it up with the newer jacks and I also went thru sears parts direct. No luck.

Does anyone have one floor jack wheel for sale, I do not know if they are steel or cast iron, I think its cast iron.

The wheel does not have bearings, it just a hole in which you slide a bolt in there. Floor jack has 4 wheels, two large ones in front and two small ones in back.

The busted one is for the back.

I did not take a picture of the actual garage jack since that would not help in anyway.

My jack works great and I would hate to toss it for such a small issue. The jack is very heavy so I am not seeking repair. It would cost a fortune to ship it. Thing weighs like 100 pounds.

I did google this wheel and two companies responded, but the price was way to high. The replacement part number is A673154 (wheel and caster unit).

Please let me know if you can help, thanks. I am sure someone out there might have one used floor jack wheel.

PS. The wheel is like 6 CM tall (2 7/16"), almost 2.5 cm (1") wide and the hole in which the bolt goes in is like 1cm (7/16). (sorry I never learned fractions that well).

Hiball,
Hi, I'm new here. I joined because google found this thread. I recently got an old Snap-On YA700 jack (the American-made version) and it won't lift at all. I was hoping your rebuild post might add some insight. Unfortunately, I don't see your original post. Was it removed?
Thanks, Sgtbilkodle

I'm in the same situation. Was looking for your rebuild info but can't view it. I just acquired an old Napa 91-642 Ser.B (I think it's a 'B'). Will raise but slowly lowers right after so I've been reading what others have said to gather options. Would like to restore this thing if possible.

Re: Snap-On Floor jack rebuild Part IV

Hiball... is there any chance you can put back all the posts you deleted?

like several other folks, got a Walker 1 1/5 ton floor jack that needs help. mine was recently rebuilt before I purchased it, so has all new seals already. but something is still wrong.

if all your instructions was posted back. it'd be no problems figuring it out. I remember reading it when detailed instructions was posted. Sure wish I'd saved a copy.

if I'd known you were going to delete... for sure would have saved a copy

thanks in advance for considering re-posting instructions.

I just picked up a YA700 this weekend and I'd really like to see these posts also. I have the jack all apart and the rebuild kit from Snap On, but some assembly info would go a long way......

Thanks,

Tom

Hiball-

Any chance of getting a copy too. I have my Dad's old YA700 in pieces and might as well rebuild it. Thanks for all of the informative posts.

Hiball, I'm new here and also found this site from a Google search on how to rebuild a jack. I was wondering if I could get a copy of the rebuild. Also, do you know if there are decals reproduced for these jacks. Mine is a YA742 that I bought new in the mid '80s. It's been a great jack until recently it will slowly leak back down. I can get jack stands under what I'm working own but it turns into a chore. I already have a kit just need the tech info. Do you sell kits? I bought before I researched it. I have other projects for the future and will probably need kits then. Thanks for any help.

I am on the Garage Journal message board. I am trying to pull up your instructions that were posted on the Snap-on Floor jack rebuild. I am not able to get it to come up. This is due to the fact that I am new to this site and I do not know how to access this. Can you help me. Thank you 4sanford

Recently purchased a YA700 ******** of a guy on Craigslist who said it quit working. Appears the seal blew.

So, sent a PM to Hiball for the instructions & rebuild kit. Attaching a picture of my old jack (blue) from Harbor Freight that blew a seal as well after 4 years, and the new one.

Dunno.. But if you can get that guy who posted above your recent post to take a picture of his, You can probably get one made. It appears to be in fairly good shape.

Wrong model. I need/want the 642 model. I'm not a purist, but would be interested if it were easy ;-)

Had to bring this back up. Hiball or anyone. I'm needing two "rivits" that hold the back plate shown on Hiball's jack (the yellow part). Each one is about 3/16" dia shank and a button head. Length is about 1/2" shank and the shank has spiral "flutes" most all it's length. These are driven into holes to hold this plate on. Any help out there?

I know what your talking about, let me see what I've got. Thought about simply tapping the holes?

A threaded fastener could work, but just trying to keep it real. OCD me took it apart and installed the screen finally. Could not get used to the screen just sitting there on the bench knowing it should be in the jack!

Should not admit this, but..... While assembling and cleaning, and recleaning, and recleaning, the "turnip" shaped release valve kept falling out. Even found it outside on the sidewalk once. Thought for sure I had it in for final assembly. After disassembly for replacing the screen, filled with oil (takes approx 1 pint, btw) jack no workee. Check everything, the get the magnet out to verify the check valves are installed correctly, OK. Then pulled the release valve and no "turnip". They definately work better with all the parts!

:lol_hitti No worries.. Your not the first one to do it..

/Me looks around.

This is why my Assembly table is Very Organized with slots for Individual pieces, This way i can quickly determine if something is missing or there is extra pieces.

My Nemesis is the Crossbar for the Release on the Long frame Walkers/Lincolns/Hw style Jacks. I would hate to recall how many times ive put the frame back together/Handle Assembly back on only to realize i left that Cross pin out.

pop pop, as far as the fasteners you're looking for the label plate--I think you're looking for "domed screw nails". I couldn't find a link to other threads--maybe Elroy's floor jack thread?--but McMaster-Carr carries these--these were used in many members' jack and machinery resto threads to fasten the original ID plates.

Dorsey are you looking for the Pins for the Shroud or the Id Tag?

Pins for the shroud.
Label plate is on the yoke and are much smaller and I have them. This need is the pins that hold the rear shroud over the pump. Two are required and they drive into the frame on ea side near the rear of the caster mounts.

Thats what i thought.. The Newer Fleet models actually used Bolts versus the Drive style, Not sure when it changed.

If available I'd like to use the pins. I now have two twins of this jack. One recently restored that I've had 35 years and this one I've salvaged from the rust heap. I actually had to make the shroud as it was missing. Don't know what the final disposition of all these jacks will be, but these two have a permanent home. One of my sons has already made a request, so we'll find them good homes, probably in the family. I have another question I'll PM you.

I think McMaster-Carr shows the pins you're looking for , just search for screw nails--they have a blunt nose with vertical flutes and come in the size your looking for--only problem is that they are sold in lots of 100 but maybe they'll send you a sample.

Thanks, online? Don't have a McMaster since I retired!

OK, looks like they are there. Around $5.

Thanks.

What size did you buy? I drilled out the ones that were on my jack, seems like it was crowned on the backside. I;m going to do a full repaint anyways, couldn't hurt to actually tear down the jack fully. I was just going to find solid rivets but it's in an awkward location, and regular pop rivets didn't have the original look ahhh!

OK. MMC only had the 1/2" and were non responsive, so I ordered ~ 50, 3/8" from Surburban Bolt and Supply in Detroit today to meet their min. order. Let's see what happens. Hope someone needs some of these!

That didn't work. No inventory and won't order for a small quantity. So I'll see about another vendor. All I found were 1/2" length, but that will work.

Thanks MVPTRUCKIN. MMC shipment arrived this evening and two were installed. Perfect fit and the 1/8" length is a non issue.

So, Burgerkong and others interested, I have another 98 of these if you need them!
