Very nice execution of a great idea! I've been watching this one since you first suggested doing it and I'm loving what I'm seeing.

I'm almost tempted to tear mine down and start again...

...almost...

Wife would kill me if I even suggested it!

Update:

I haven't decided on my epoxy floor yet.
But, I have decided to prep the concrete by grinding it with a diamond wheel cup versus using an acid etch. After I grind it, if I like the way the floor looks, I may consider just using clear epoxy. I have contacted the supplier for Wolverine coatings and their clear seems to be designed for good adhesion since it is used for primer also.

I have been working on taping and floating (done), installing lights (also done) and inside painting. Also, the restroom tile job is still ongoing. I am working on cabinet designs and will get those to a cabinet maker soon.
I'll post new pictures in a few days.

Things seem to be moving along slow at this point.
There is still much to do but I am doing it all myself since the contractors finished their part.

Here is the outside. I still have to do the painting. Then the fun job of finding a gas pump, signs and nic-nacs. Had a couple of loads of caliche fill hauled in to smooth it up around the building. Still some more work to be done though.

Here are a couple of shots of the 14X24 clean room. It is done. I just finished putting an epoxy floor down on it. I used EpoxyGuard. Put lots of lighting in there too.

Here is a shot of the blaster and compressor rooms.
They are done too. I put Quikcrete epoxy on those floors.(2 coats of color and 2 coats of clear.)
full.jpg

Here are a couple of shots of the restroom. One though the outside door of the building and one through the inside door.
It is done except for some trim painting and I ran out of epoxy grout for the floor so a little more to do on that.

There is still a lot left to do in the large (660 sq ft) area.
I need to decide what to do with the floor. I am leaning towards using the Wolverine epoxy system unless I get talked into using Racedeck.
Also, I am going to have custom floor and wall cabinets built for the south wall.
Here is what it is looking like now. I got all the lighting done.
Electrical final passed and am ready for plumbing final and construction final.

I used my extreme wide angle lens for these shots. It can make things look a little distorted at the edges in case you were wondering.

I've been watching your progress since you started, GREAT JOB! It's really coming together.

I like your lights, what type/model are you using?

Thanks!

I bought all the lights at Home Depot.
They are Lithonia Lighting 4 bulb T8 and 2 bulb T8 fixtures.
And, I bought the 25W energy efficient bulbs which had more lumens than the 32W bulbs did.
I really like the new T8 bulbs versus the old T12s.

Here are my cabinet plans. I'll give them to the cabinet maker on Monday with half the money.

My plan is to get the floor epoxied while they are being built.
I will paint them myself with my spray equipment.
White or gray, I haven't decided yet. I do believe I am going to go with light gray for the epoxy floor however.

Took me 2 days to sand, primer, paint and install the hardware.
A lot of work but I am pleased with how they turned out.

Fantastic project!

If you're still taking votes - I cast mine for Sinclair!

It was always a treat to climb into our old Studebaker with my Dad and get 'er filled up at the Sinclair station. Of course the big pay-off for me was that little bag of Dinosaurs that came with every tank full.

Sorry guys, I am going with Fire Chief.

I will never forget the full service Texaco my parents went to in Pleasantville, NY back in the late fifties and early sixties. And, how nice the attendant was (Mr. Becker) to my folks and me. Sometimes he would spray water on my brother for laughs.

Pretty cool Fred that you still have a bag of those dinosaurs!

Update

Finished painting and installing the cabinet doors and drawers.
That was a lot of work. Sprayed them with oil based, inside and out.

I also have attached 1 1/8" OSB for the workbench tops. I am going to put black/white (checkerboard) 1/8" VCT tile on it. I am planning on cutting the 12" tiles into 6"X6" pieces. Then I will coat the tiles with clear urethane.
I also have on order some 1 1/4" polished aluminum counter edging for the top edges.

I am ready to epoxy the floor when weather permits.

Thanks to you both.

Cobra,
I don't have the '66 anymore but I've got a '69 convertible that I restored a couple of years ago. Check out my photo albums if you are interested.
My first project in the new shop will be converting the car to sidepipes.
I have changed my mind about them since the I did the restore.

Sully,

You are exactly correct. I've got a neon sign, clock and an old traffic light.
They are displayed in my photo album in my old garage.
I've got some new stuff too.

The album called "Shop Photos" was my at my last house in Austin.
My present house in San Angelo does have a double garage but it's just ordinary for the everyday drivers.
The "New Workshop" album is where the present Gas Station Workshop that I am still working on now.

The cabinets in my old shop in Austin were Mills Pride which is a Home Depot brand that is no longer available. (The stuff HD has now is garbage. Lowes are garbage too.) The only particle board/melamine cabinets that I know of that are decent are Ikea.
My new workshop cabinets were custom made and all-wood.

Yeah... I have a few lowes cabinets and they're all sagging etc. I'm a perfectionist and took my time putting them together correctly.

New shop is truly awesome... old one was great too.

I ordered the grinding wheels and dust cover from sites you listed. I still have to find the rollers and squeege. I hope my garage turns out as nice. It is 32x30 with 13" ceilings w/2 10' doors. Built last year. (2007) Thanks.

I bought a 69 Vette (C3) new and 73 Vette(C3) LT1 and various other Vettes new. I still have the 67 coupe and a 1934 Ford Vicky.

Don't even think about using 9" rollers.
I got my 18" 3/8 nap roller covers at Lowes (Home Depot doesn't carry the 3/8 nap covers) and the 18" roller frame at Home Depot. I also bought the best quality extension pole that Lowes carries. I ended up using 6 roller covers for the whole job.

What kind of grinder are you intending to use? I had better luck with a 3000 rpm one than the heavy duty 6000 rpm non-variable speed one I have.
The 6000 rpm grinder cut too fast and I couldn't control it well.
But, concrete varies. You may not have that trouble. Be sure to practice in a spot that you will cover with base cabinets like I did.

I plan on using a HF 7"grinder as you suggested and not ruin my good ones.
I have a few of the 4" HF grinders and will use the 18" rollers. A 2 post lift will also go in.(Bend Pak/Rotary) The concrete was 4000 PSI.
