Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I walked in, picked up the limb loppers, and whacked off a bunch of limbs on the shrubs around the house. Tomorrow's assignment from SWMBFAO is to clean up the yard. We gotta have it looking nice for the party for the kid's graduation from high school.

Aint no-one at the grad gonna notice the yard!!!:lol_hitti

Cutting and installing drawer liners in hand carry toolboxes and sorting and organizing tools in those boxes.

And bought my first flap disks for the HF grinder. Never used a flap disk before. Boy they work great for rust and paint removal! Worked on the arbor press a bit. It's still in the van. I see how some people can have a few of the $10 HF grinders with different discs on each one.

Got a cheap HF chip brush for the drill press.

Making up milk crates to organize supplies for the car and van.

Need a chunk of aluminum as a heat sink to cool down metal that's just cut.

Organizing a box for just machinist measuring tools. Organizing taps and dies and tap and die holders.

Picking out tools to go out to the hangar.

At the hangar (Another kind of garage), I set up 2 sets of plastic shelving and brought in a unit of steel shelving as well as a small C'man roller set and a C'man block grinder on a metal table.
A;so cleaned up piles of poop left by raccoons that got in the hangar.

That's what I keep telling SWMBFAO but.....

SWMBFAO is planning on having a party for the family the day after the actual graduation at the house. So her whole family will be here and will be commenting on the "stuff" around the house. It rained last night so I'll be "inside" today. Maybe I can convince her that I need to work on te grage for a while???

What's 600lbs of scrap worth these days?

Took in a vanload assortment of steel, aluminum and a small amount of copper. Walked out with $191. There's a reason the meth heads are doing what they do...

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

made a bunch of sparks, got my gloves smoldering, and a huge mess under the back of my trail truck. :bounce:

i've been looking at the back end of my trail truck, and after narrowing it 12 inches, started doing some more "thinkin' drinkin' "

pulled the rear bumper, raised it 4 inches, bolted and welded in new frame mounts, cut the tailgate for hitch tube clearance, notched the rear sheetmetal for even more clearance, cut up some 3/16" sheet steel i had, boxed the back end of the frame and added a "roll pan" from the rear crossmember to the bumper.

2 more filler pieces to cut and weld in tomorrow.........

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Jacked up the Nissan p'up, and used a wire brush, chipping hammer, and various other tools to chip, scrape, and brush LAYERS of rust from my rearend (my truck's, actually :S) I was surprised, but pretty happy to find that, although it seemed I was taking off HUGE chunks of rust, that it still all finished down to the same base level! (i.e.-----no huge pits, etc.) Almost like the rust layers grew OUT from the base metal---no huge pits or anything, even though huge chunks of rust were crusting over a lot of it! While I was under there, I did the same thing to every other surface I had time for.

I'll probably give it a final once-over and get more areas taken care of, then pressure wash it.

Finally, I'll have to decide what to coat it with. It's not a show truck-----I was thinking of either POR15 (expensive, will require a more thorough washing) or oil spray (messy, but cheap and effective)

Blew some rust off the rocker panels of my car with the sand blaster and treated with POR-15.

Damn, ever time I say I'll never mess with rust again...

FINAL after 7 months after purchasing my lift ... lifts are in the ground! As soon as electric is complete I'll test them out! Very exciting.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Finally, a year since I broke ground I'm at the point where I can say I am "done" with the garage. So, today I cleared off the workbench and topped it with 1/4" Masonite.

And then, for the moment I have been waiting for, got to put a dead animal on the wall!
.

Was a good day in the new garage.

Had a 97 Sportster 1200 on the lift and put new gaskets on the front head and new set of straight pipes and an oil change. — at skulldrinker's Man Cave.

Pulled apart a couple Ninja 250 carbs today. Lots of outside yard work this weekend involving 15 yards of loam instead of time in the garage.

From yesterday's Tech Day at my house:

Had a great time, met lots of new friends, and lost not one tool!:bounce:

Jim

Jim, looks like fun. I again am in awe of your willingness to open up your home and your shop to so many people. I applaud you.

Looks like a GREAT day at JIMS!!!!!

Built a frame-table to put my 27T rod on. It also covers 3 engines so gave me back a stall that was being used up by them.

Also got the Galaxie out of storage and bought a new garage mat for Mrs E-tek's Mini -

Modified some GM Performance BBC heads to accept a set of Earls aluminum PCV and Breather grommets (1-inch diameter to 1.22-inch). The new PCV and grommet

Made a fixture to attach them to the table rolled to 35-degrees.

The finished hole still fits nicely in the boss.

Inserted the grommet and it looks like it was made for the cover.

Slip in the PCV and the finish look...sweet.

And a glimpse of what it looks like installed. I'm getting impatient...and that air cleaner hurts my eyes.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Great day in the shop. Finished assembling the oil cooler and front bumper assembly on the track car. Started it up and it is running again. Looking forward to next Saturday and some seat time in the car. Had a nice rain and drizzle throughout the day which kept it cool. I was told to pick up Pizza Hut for dinner so that fit perfectly with the beer I was planning on drinking anyway. Finished the day in my plastic Wally World Adirondack Chairs drinking beer, eating pizza and watching Nascar in the shop.

Not bad a couple of weekends and I have a nice brake. Found a need to redesign the sheet metal clamp. It was too flimsy constructed from angle, wanted to flex during the bend. Got a tig cart up for build next you will see that as I go also.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Thanks for the compliments,

Like I said its a new venture for me, this is my newest piece, a fishing boat its far from finished but here is a sneek peek. The scale is hard to tell in the picks its about 16 inches long and 14 inches high. The plan is the round off the bottom and mount it on a nice piece of granite so you can see underneath it.

Its still missing the cabin and rigging ect., but I think you get the idea.

Godspeed
MrC.
