Moved the snowblower and other winter items out of the garage and into the shed. Did some organizing, watched some TV while moving things around. Just felt good to be in the garage.

I changed my work bench from a 90" straight bench to a total of 160" L shapped bench with the middle corner cut out for me to sit at.

Brought home some hanging file cabinets (the kind usually found in office cubicles) and a desk that I scored at my local Habitat for Humanity store. 60 bucks for 15 ft. of nice looking cabinets. Not sure what I'll put in them but they'll look cool above my work bench. They came equipped with flourescent lights too. Did a little taping and floating in my shop office. Not my forte but, hell, the mud sands easy and i'm retired so my time comes cheap.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I have another shop that is 26x28 that will be used to work on my project Jeep. It has been sitting idle collecting STUFF for 5 years so this weekend it was time.

Cleaned, cleaned and then cleaned some more....then I started to discover that I had a couple of workbenches. Cleaned, cleaned and cleaned....purging time!

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Last night we cleaned the shop out from the weekends projects and made room for a couple of ATVs that a customer brought over last night. Started troubleshooting them and hopefully finish them up in the next night or two.

Got the roadster out of it's winter parking spot and did some repairs, put fresh gas in it and fired it up.

Hung a new 4ft T8 2 lamp fixture in the garage, wouldn't think that it would add a lot but it sure does.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Welded a nut on the back of my bench top drill press's stripped out table clamp. The previous one wouldn't apply enough pressure to the upright to keep pieces from being pushed down by the bits when drilling. I just welded a nut onto one side, and ran a corresponding bolt into it through the clamps original hole, using a larger nut as a bushing to apply pressure and secure the clamp. Then I proceeded to rub the entire thing down with some steel wool, got a magnet to maintain the chuck key, re-secured a loose belt cover (one of the bolts had vibrated out), and gave everything a nice oiling down to prevent rust from reappearing.

Found the batteries in the golf cart and the Mustang both junk after sitting for the winter. At least the crappy garden tractor started.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Installed my new wheels on my Duramax that just showed up yesterday. I put the truck on the lift, removed the tires/wheels and brought them to be mounted/balanced. While they were getting mounted I was able to get an ATV completed that a customer dropped on Monday night. The carburetor was disgusting with floaties and the pilot jet was plugged. Runs great now. I will work on the other one tonight and he can come and get them.

Mike.

Here is what my new wheels look like once I got them mounted back on the truck.

Pretty wild you tig them together?

I wish, No I use stainless steel wire in my little mig and turn it way down.
The look on people face when they relize its all spoons, forks or knives is priceless, I was at a art show last weekend and people were saying it like they were telling me what they were made of. " hey, those are spoons!", ah yes mam' they are.

some stainless does discolor (cheaper grade) so I use a automotive grade clear coat on each piece when its finished.

Nice wheels, look right on the truck!

Jim

PS I got out my motorcycle for the ride to work in DC!

Thanks Jim. I agree, the ones I had before were too busy for my liking but I had purchased them used when I bought the truck. It was just time to upgrade to something that fit my personality and the truck's a little better. Glad you were able to get out and ride.

Thanks. I agree on the year. When I was looking I really wanted an 06 because of the higher output engine as well as the six-speed Allison and NOT the 07-up emissions ****. They were out of my price range so I started looking at 04.5-5 with the LLY but couldn't find one that hadn't been driven into the ground or beat on. I just saved up for a few more months and then lucked out when I ran into this one. It was out of Arizona and only had 58k miles on it. Only drawback at the time was manual windows but I was really after the drivetrain, I figured I could live without electric windows. Now after owning it for 5 years I don't even miss the electric windows.

When I bought it the previous owner evidently didn't know what a tailgate was used for because he must have thrown everything over the bedsides and missed quite a lot. It had little dents and dings all down the bedsides and the tailgate had been hit/repaired.

Two years ago, I removed the bed, repaired/repainted and replaced the tailgate with a new OEM one. I also purchased some smooth OEM fender flares and painted/installed them replaceing the textured black ones. I then installed the white/chrome door handles at the same time as well as debadged and buffed/polished the rest of the truck out.

I have an EGR blockoff with fingerstick, Banks Monster exhaust, PCV re-route plus the 6" RCD lift, New 20" MKW wheels and 36" BFG tires. It pulls out 26' enclosed trailer with the sand toys fantastic so I haven't added a tuner at this time. I need to start driving it more as it is a blast to drive but it just turned over 80k a couple of weeks ago when I had to renew my registration. I only put 2300 miles on it last year.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I took my wheels into the shop to have the tires taken off so I could repaint them.

So far I have done one round of aircraft paint remover.

How they will look on my Mini S.

How it fit, and the peeling DIY paint that came on the wheels when I picked them up for a steal.

I am thinking that I will polish them since they are coming out so good with just the stripper. My fiancee likes them in black.

What did you use for motors? I'm guessing they are 100V motors for portability.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

I used 1/3 HP 90VDC motors - 2,500 RPM. I run them with KBIC controllers for variable speed - I went with separate motors so you can speed one up and "bend" the ball. It works very well. You can bend it right or left with the turn of a knob.

I bought a SPARE motor off Ebay for $40 shipped - and I see "rebuilt" KBIC controllers there for the same - $40. I already had a couple controllers and the motors laying around - scavenged from the dumpster long ago. I do like to have "spare parts" which ios why I bought an "extra" motor.

So far we use this 3 or 4 nights a week. Both Goalie work and Field work - best 100 bucks I spent ever!!!

I also contemplated using motors off a tread mill - I wondered if one could use the motor/controller off one of them for a near nothing investment.

Spent some time in the shed tonight (actually last night) replacing the rubber gromet and fuel lines on my weed eater installed new air filter and spark plug too. Worst part was the little metal clip on the fuel pick up. Fired it up and trimmed the yard so I can mow tomorrow (today). I also let the kids bang a few nails into some scrap wood to keep them busy.

I sold my Hayabusa last night. 10 years of ownership since new and was sad to see it finally be sold. I guess I am finally getting old enough to prefer comfort over insanity.

Well, very nice you cannot detect the welding, guessing your using .025 wire also . Nice work and creative.

Re: what did you do in your garage today?

Last night I finished up the second ATV of a customers'. The fuel tank and carburetor had more dirt/grime than any other I had ever seen. No wonder it didn't run right. Got it all put back together, road tested, cleaned the shop to make room for the next customers car tonight.

Yes .025 wire and I spend a lot of time building form the inside out so you cant see the welds. Sometimes it cant be helped, but thanks for noticing.

I have an appointment this Friday at our biggest art gallery, I hope it goes well, I will let you all know.

Welded in the last of the patch panels for the trunklid of the 68 Spitfire. I feel like I've done 10,000 tiny spotwelds, but I know it's only several hundred. Still, I am confident in this being the last repair ever to that trunk lid. It's good knowing you can take something completely trashed and rotten and bring it back to service.

Thanks, Yes my son helped some - daughter not as much. I like them to see how using your noodle can be fun. Investing in tools allows one to make some pretty cool stuff out of "junk" sometimes. I think that's a pretty good lesson for kids in this day and age! ;-)

I cleaned the garage so i can once again fit two cars in it.
neighbor asked me the other day why i wasn't at work, i never told him my days on.
so its time to park em inside again and let the world wonder if we are here.
its nice to be able to use it as a shop again too.
