To All - Have a great time this weekend!! Wish I was in the Sunshine State as I would definitely be there to meet you all!

As for the sign! Great idea with the wood...I did the same thing in regards to surfing to find some ideas and then making my own garage sign...having the graphics buddy now send it to me in a size that I can actually use for my avatar.

Cheers, Roy

I spoke to the sign guy and we are going to change the date to something relevant. I am thinking about 1932.......the year my dad was born. He never hesitated not to buy me cars when I was younger and was a car guy himself. Here is the sign up and I love it.

**** me! How have I missed this build all this time?!?!?!

I have to admit, I only skimmed through 30 or so pages. I'm a pic junkie, and didn't really read all them pesky words. Did you ever make a poster of that Willy's pic (dead on with them stacks....OMG!!!! Car ****!!!!)??????

My pleasure, it's easier to find now. If you run off a few copies let me know, I told myself, "self, only a couple posters in this new garage".......and I think this should be one of them.

That image evokes a 'storyline'....

IT awaits.
IT awaits in ITs lair,
hidden from spying eyes,
within the dark shadows,
IT AWAITS!

As deep night blankets the city,
and streetlights shine down on the cruise boulevard,
the parking lots of the burger joints come alive,
with the sounds of the young and young-at-heart
enjoying the sweet sounds of good old rock-and-roll,
IT AWAKENS!

IT barks its start at the turn of the key.
ITs throaty growl signals ITs intent.
Hell bent for prowling,
ITs loping cam burbles pure evil,
IT leaps to the street in search of prey!

IT's a WILLYS, and IT's WILD!!!

P.S. - $ign me up for one of those posters if you have some made That is car art I'd pay for in a heartbeat!

The "Garage Journal" party today was a huge success. I was very fortunate to have the chance to meet some of our members face to face. Garage guys are really cool. I made a lot of new friends.

Here is a picture of one car that showed up........it definitely got everyone's attention.

Ha! Don't smoke any funny stuff, but I did allow myself one beer with dinner. I guess I'll just blame it on some 'bent' neurons from working too close to the reactors on the U.S.S. Enterprise CVA(N)-65 many years ago.

It looks like you had an outstanding day to hold the GJ picnic; wish I could have attended and hoisted a brew (or two) with y'all!

More details on the '64 Chevelle, please.

I bought it 7 years ago while I was in the hospital after my kidney transplant. I guess I was pretty happy to be alive and was bored while in the hospital for two weeks. Its my favorite car. original red interior, air ride technologies, 13" inch brakes in front, 12" in rear, turbo 400, 19" Boze 3 piece wheels in front, 22" Boze 3 piece wheels in back, we just smoothed the firewall and dropped a 502 BB in it, polished heads, and other shiny stuff. griffen radiator and twin electric fans.......here is the motor.

Any pics of the firewall smoothing process? Where did you stick all the stuff that lived in the engine compartment? I'd like to see how you made all that stuff 'disappear'.

I did not take many photos of the "smoothing" of the firewall. We did remove the heater box which is a big ugly piece and welded in the opening. We pulled all the wiring off the firewall and it either travels through the one hold you see in the firewall or under the dash for the nice clean look. All the little holes where welded closed. I really like clean firewalls. I dont have a single picture of the interior of the car. I will shoot some tomorrow and post. It has the factory interior and it is really clean.

We did a little work on the 70 Chevelle today. I decided to take the day off and work in the garage. We got the Corvette brake kit from Kore 3. They make some nice brackets to install C5 brakes on Chevelles. Check out those $300 billet aluminum hubs!! It was all pretty simple until we moved to the rear brakes. We removed the differential cover and removed the lock screw for the pinion shaft and someone had sheering it off:mad: There is no way to remove the rear axles without pulling out the pinion shaft. That was really bad news but luckily Larry was patient and spent 2 hours drilling and working on getting it out and he got it. We will get the rear brakes on the car tomorrow.

i also need to update you guys a picture of the build room wall. The faux dude came back and it looks awesome.

I took some pictures of the interior and the trunk today. Its a nice original interior and I love the red. I would like to at some point put some Autometer gauges in the dash.

I am pretty proud of the trunk area. I like sound and have subwoofers in about every car I own. I built the subwoofer boxes and had a friend of mine do the stitch work. The polished stainless tank is the air tank for the air ride. A lot of people think it is a nitrous tank.:)

We got another project dropped off at the monster garage this weekend. It is a nice 1966 Corvette with a crazy big block dual 4 barrel powerhouse with 650 hp....wow this baby sounds good. I know you Corvette buffs will notice it has the 67 side vents in it but they were added. We will be pulling the motor to detail and paint the engine compartment. While the motor is out it will be painted and cleaned up. New valve cover gaskets, intake, and what ever else we can make pretty. We will be cleaning up the wiring, installing all new bushings and tie rod ends, new carpet, restore the dash, and add air conditioning. This is the guy who owns the 66 Nova we are working on.

We pulled the motor today and found our hoist was a little short so we brought in the Bobcat for some serious pulling power. We pulled the vette out in the grass to steam clean the engine compartment and suspension. I thought it was a cool picture with all of the steam coming out.......no, we did not catch the car on fire.....yet!!

p.s......yes we are replacing the wheels!!!

Isn't the Vette sitting a little high in its stance in the first pic? Will the new wheels change its stance?

Just saw an interesting video today at 'Jay Leno's Garage' website about a young fella with his own detailing business now using a newly developed (?) mobile steam cleaning machine that is safe to use on any car surface (interior, exterior, engine bay, etc.). Pretty amazing to see in action. This kid retails (?) the unit at his website but does not list the cost that I could find.

Could you show/tell us a little more about the steam clean machine you own?

Wow, those wheels are so early 90s! It definitely needs an update in that department. Will it be getting some lowering in the suspension too, or just from the tire height?

Great observation and you may be responsible for a $3500 decision. Really though you are right and I was thinking about your comment this afternoon. The owner came in and one thing I can say about him is he wants stuff nice and money is almost no object. When he pointed out the $3500 in a wheel package he wants I started thinking more about stance and getting a bigger tire on the rear. I am looking into switching the suspension to coil over which would be HOT! Allows for bigger tires and adjusting the stance.

I had this machine built a few years ago. I am going to have to look up the specs on it but I paid about $1800 for it. This baby is heavy duty and is run by diesel fuel. It is hot enough to be very dangerous. It requires at least a 3500 psi pressure cleaner with a minimum of 3.5 gpm of flow. I tried it once with my 1500 psi pressure cleaner and it wouldnt activate the heat. You cant even touch the supply hose once this thing fires up because it is so hot. We were actually able to remove paint from the frame it was so hot.

I dont know if i showed you guys but I have a pressure cleaner mounted in my rv garage with high pressure pipe underground to the location where I wash my cars under a tree. It is feed by a tankless gas water heater and gives some nice hot water.

P.S. I hate it when my finger gets too close to the camera lens on my phone:lol:

Thats a great set up with your Bob Cat and the lift on the front.

It certainly made it easier.

We are pretty excited about the project. After our meeting today I think it is going to be a fun project. Those are for sure old school wheels!

Today was a day of disassembly. The engine compartment was made void by removing the wiring harness, upper/lower control arms, steering components, heater box, and anything else we could get our hands on. The dirty work is upon us as we are to detail the engine compartment and frame back to the firewall. The frame is pretty rough with undercoating, grease, and rust. Lots of wire brush and sanding is in store tomorrow.

We will rehab all the parts we can get our hands on. I am looking at possible a full coilover suspension. Otherwise we would sandblast the existing control arms and install new bushings. A new Griffen radiator will be ordered, new master cylinder, and brake system. I am sending the motor out to be looked over. Now its out we need to make sure it is freshened up if necessary.

This job started as a simple detail the engine compartment and is now growing.

Good progress today on the vette engine compartment. This has really been a dirty job. We got a good photo of our man Cuban under the car taking care of the underbelly. Hopefully by afternoon we'll be spraying the Imron satin black paint.

Also today Larry worked on the Chevelle. We mounted the new dash in the car as our Vintage A/C system should arrive soon and we needed the dash in to mount the a/c. A big shout out to John's Classic cars in Georgia as we have the pulleys installed on the motor. Anyone who has messed around with finding pulleys and especially for a Chevelle with power steering and A/C knows it is a nightmare. I basically called these guys, told them what I needed and they gave me the part numbers and shipped it all to me in a package.

You really don't much around getting stuck into projects!
That Corvette will look awesome when it's done, and I can't wait to see the Chevelle finished, such a beautiful colour for it...

Thank you. I am more of a project guy than a builder or a car guy. I was thinking today "why am I messing around with these cars?" I have a real job....... but I just love projects.

Mark,
Check out DeWitts for your radiator, they are highly recommended in the Corvette world. http://www.dewitts.com
