Gotta start off where you went wrong:

VICE - - - - smoking, drinking, adultery, drugs, etc.

VISE - - - mechanical tool to hold items

Use the Advanced Search feature of GJ to search VISE . . . . there are tons of threads that will tell you anything you'll need to know - - - like which vise brands to buy on CL, Ebay, garage sales, etc.

I need to sell this vice. I am not trying to make a lot of money, but I have seen vice prices from 50-1000$.

It is a columbian and it looks interesting and the vice jaws swivel. There is the number 30 imprinted on the vice.

Any clue as to the value and what is reasonable to list it for?

Thanks.

That is indeed a newer Chinese made vise. I had a Wilton that looked just like it. It worked good for my needs and I paid $70 for it a few years ago new and sold it a few moths ago for $50. Then turned around and bought a 5 1/2" Wilton Tradesman for $50 ($400new) and a few weeks later bought a 4" Wilton Bullet for $40. I think new right now your vise cost around $80. Ask for $50, be happy with $40. Most people don't care where a Vise is made, they
Just like the word 'new','newer' and like shiny paint. Good luck.

You should try reading the post before jumping on the 'Chicom' wagon like so many people do here. He said he is SELLING the vise.

I had one like that someone gave me. I put it in the trash but my neighbor took it and gave me 20. It is worth no more than that.

Some folks around here think vises like that are worth a ton...

A lot of confused folks around here, yours truly included...

As I've said before, I NEED adult supervision, frequently...

Worth its weight in weight.

I have one I 'stole' from my nephews yard, was going to clean it up and put it back where I found it. Krylon costs more than the vise was worth....

You guys crack me up with your reasoning. The GJ has taken you away from reality. I will first say, yes Old American made vises are 10 times better than these China vises, and I now own 4 American vises and sold my Wilton Chicom. But let's face it fellas, not everyone has been bitten with the GJ bug. Not everyone can afford a $400 vise, not everyone knows the difference in quality, not everyone knows there are deals to be made buying a used American vise. And face it, not everyone cares! The man asked a simple question. Very few people gave him a real useful answer.

Op, it's worth what you can get for it. Someone out there has walked passed the new ones at Lowes or Home depot etc and said, "man, id like one of those, i just don't have $80" then they see on on CL for a deal and your phone will ring. this "throw it in the trash" attitude is just stupid. if you don't want a tool because it says China on it, donate it to Habitat for Humanity or something. Somewhere there is a less fortunate adult or kid who would die for that vise. Like I said before. I paid $70 brand new for mine several years ago, used and abused it and just sold it for $50 to a used car dealer and it didn't look as good as yours. It all depends on the market in your area. Around here old stuff is hard to find. New China stuff is everywhere. If a guy can save $30 less than new, he's all over it. For your sanity, if it is not made in America, next time you have a question regarding value, don't ask, or be prepared for the bandwagon to roll through

^^^ What he said X4!

Throw it in the trash?!? $20 at best?!? Sheesh, get real guys!

Solid $40 and it wouldn't hurt to start at $60 OBO.

Waay smaller vises new start at $60-70. Any hobby/homeowner would be happy to pay $40-$50, maybe even $60 for it.

That is an $80 vise new from Harbor Freight. I would list it for $60 and go from there.

Vice is the UK spelling for vise.

It makes me wonder how they would spell Harbor Freight aluminum vise! (Harbour Freight aluminium vice)

I agree with others here that it is a Chinese-made vise. And I also agree with Fyrme that the vise is worth what people are willing to pay. So here is a sliding scale to use below. Use any price point you wish.

No conscience . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . completely honest guy
takes forever to sell . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . sells quickly
$100 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $50 . . . . . . . . . . $15

Hope that helps. :D

I don't get it. It says 'Columbian" on the casting but you guys say it's chinese. It looks like what you find in today's market for anywhere from under a 100 to more than 200. But then I see 'Columbian' vises listed at a grand.

What gives?

BTW, you guys that get ******* about the spelling don't say your instead of [/]you're[/i], do you? :D

You are totally right. I realized that after I posted. It was trash to me, but is worth 70 to most because most don't care; they just need a vise.

Yes, but after they use it, they'll realize just how worthless they are.

I bought my first Wilton (brand new, $180) after my brother got me a Chinese piece-o-junk that just wouldn't stay clamped on anything without loosening up.

A knife needs to cut. A vise needs to stay clamped. If the tool can't do the basic job it is made for, it is nothing more than a potential boat anchor.
