Davefr...can you zoom in to the underside lid of the picture that shows the 31"??? extension for that drill. I've never paid attention to that and now I'm interested. Great deal man!

I got a pair of craftsman duck bill pliers and a craftsman screwdriver for my efforts today for a quarter each.. Thought the first sale was going to be good because I saw a top toolbox out front, but when I got closer it was marked 300. Only thing with within in it with anything was an old set of offset double box end snap on.
Just wow, I would love to find one of those, especially at that price. Don't tell me it has the drawers in it as well?

It's the 3 drawer model.
I sale primarily to look for keepers but sometimes can't look a gift horse in the mouth and have to flip. However I hate CL flipping!! I'm confident I can find a nice spot for this box.
The super **** award goes to the guy that snagged the KR660 for $250. Hopefully it was a GJ member.

I hit one estate sale today, and one garage sale. The GS had nothing for me, and the estate sale seemed eerily familiar. Turns out, I had been in the house 6 months ago. The were selling the contents of a high rise condo unit, and moved it to this house. I don't know why they have access to an empty house for sales...
Had I known, I probably would have skipped it. The old rusty stuff never gets moved to another site for sale. I did get a cheap-ish pair of Bushnell binos for $10, and a cable modem and wifi access point for $5 each. Threw in some other small stuff like a motorola business radio earphone and PTT switch, new in the package. that was worth $20 all by itself.
So nothing really exciting, but I did get out of the house.

Well, it's not so much compared to other scores of the day, but here goes... I went back to the place I stopped at yesterday, but with more cash. Here's what I got:
Starting at top left are sets of MAC combo and DOE wrenches in their rolls, a Blackhawk DBE, a set of Herbrand combos, an air pressure gauge, Proto slip-joints, Williams cutters, two pair of Utica needlenose, a Stanley tack puller, an unbranded pick, a Herbrand spark plug gapper, a Proto spark plug boot puller, and the screwdrivers. On the left there is Proto (2), Wizard, Williams, and Indestro. On the right are Irwin (3), Snap-On Octogrip, and SK.

For those who are discouraged, yes it takes work. I go through a lot of ads looking for good sales. Of a dozen or more sales I could have gone to Thursday, I only stopped at 2. I read the ads carefully and separate "tools" or "Tools, Tools, Tools!!!" or "Retired Mechanic" from "garden tools".
I wouldn't discount newer, higher-end, or mcmansion-type neighborhoods if an ad sounds promising. I don't bother hitting 'targets of opportunity' in those areas, though. In fact, a target of opportunity should look promising from the road and/or be really convenient. Even then, they're usually baby clothes and cheap furniture.
Even if the prices aren't as good, big swap meets are a lot of fun simply because there's some actual selection. I like estate sales, but I study all the photos in those ads very carefully before stopping, and get there as early as possible.
And, some weekends, there simply aren't any sales worth going to.

), wow, that is just absolutely amazing someone gave you that. Please share the background story? What are your plans for it?That is a good deal if you need one. They are designed for back purging with tig welding. You can run two different flow argon hoses off of one bottle. One (high flow) goes to your tig machine / torch, the other (lower flow) goes to the workpiece for back purging.
Not something you usually need at home, unless you do a bunch of food grade stainless piping. My 2¢

Good buys. I've got that exact same vise...was my fathers, he used it when making fishing plugs. Looks like it's missing the suction cup base?

Friend of mine gave it and a small dingy to an ex-girlfiend for her kid to use. Kid lost interest....friend and his girlfriend broke up...he called saying she's been bugging him to get it out of her shed and to go get it if I wanted it.
I'm planning to use it on a soon to be purchased inflatable, hopefully it will have enough power to push it along.

Went to an estate sale today and he had a SO KR660 with a $250 price tag on it. Unfortunately it was already sold
I did snag this SO side cabinet that was full of fittings (including about 10 lbs of brass) for $20:
Nice. There's a guy selling the same side cabinet for $350 on CL here haha.

THANKS!!!!!! I've been looking for another of those tools with some more markings on them and you have it.
The mystery tool you mentioned is a clock makers tool, mostly for pocket/wrist watches. If you look inside the openings, you will see very small dimples on each side. THey are pivot points for a gear staff. You place the gear in the openings and test for trueness or to see if the gear is out of round.
If you sell that little tool, you might be able to cover most of your purchases today. They sell for quite a bit if its a good name brand. LCR is a good one.

That looks like a great treasure box for $40 lots of high quality stuff. I love buying smallish lots like that, I find so much enjoyment in digging through and sorting everything out. Enjoy yours, looks like some real nice stuff. Davefr; great grab on that starrett back plunger indicator and those ratchets. That indicator is an old one.

This weekend was shaping up to be another huge turd of "crappy" sales
and since i had to work on Friday, i missed out of a few decent ones.
Since i had lots of free time today, i decided to check out a sale up the road in Calabasas. I figured it was going to be junk or, as the ad stated, artsy junk like beads, paintings, and craft supplies.
Once i got there, i was pleasantly surprised to find a garage that had a pottery studio on one side and the other was the "old" side. There was a cabinet that was literally stuffed full of copper and brass fittings but not much on the tools.
I did see one small steel box that had some tools so i threw a few more inside and tossed it in the bottom of the box. Here is what i ended up grabbing without even knowing it
Plomb "Cub" 3/8 tool kit with no original tools
Plomb 11/16" pebble bed wrench
Plomb LA "rope band socket", WF 1/2" swivel socket and 2 other sockets that need a good cleaning to reveal what they are. Since i don't see 2 stripes, i'm guessing more WF or early Plomb
Early Blackhawk Arrowhead 5/8" socket
Armstrong and Vlchek end wrenches
Craftsman underline logo BE sockets
Unidentified hand crank drill with cocobolo wood handles. I'm thinking its a Miller falls but who knows at this point.

$2 for a big *** 12 ton Crosby shackle. No idea what I'm going to do with this. More of a novelty than anything else. I have no way to lift 12 tons!
Decent day but the majority of the garage sales turned out to be nothing but holiday decorations and baby clothes.

Long time lurker but after finally not having to work over a weekend and having Friday off I finally picked up some tools.
First Picture: Friday estate sale
SK, Craftsman, and Proto wrenches at the top. Plomb 20" 1/2" drive extension and Sk 10" 1/2" drive extension. Pry bar and the best part a new never been used Proto Challenger 1/2" breaker bar. Also a rockwell random orbital. $19 for the lot.
Second Picture: Saturday hunting
Old Ford spark plug wrench and an unidentified Williams 966H 1/2 wrench. Thinking a T-handle for the old slide through ratchets or more likely a solid 1/2" tap wrench. Can anybody confirm? I have no use for it but thought it may be somebody's missing piece.

Same here... my subdivision garage sale was Friday & Saturday. I put out two tables of tools I needed to clear out and sold them all on Friday. Thought about it Friday night and came back Saturday morning with another table of tools. Sold them all again. Both days different guys showed up at closing and made me an offer I couldn't refuse for everything left on the tables. Only thing that didn't sell was a Wilton Bullet vise.... had two and sold one.

I did OK today, no complaints! nothing huge, but a lot of small finds all over the place. The Big block sale was about 1/2 of what they ordinarily have, but some good finds there also.
Also left a few things on the table or in one estate sale's case, on the bench, including a set of Wiss ""Specials" Bench snips. but asking $20 for a rusty pair is not a buyer's market...

My Fist and last stop (I went back...) got this for $5 on the first stop dn $2 for the Proto DBE on the last stop. first was the Klien Lineman's, Utica Needle Nose, Lonc C Craftsman dykes, (Refer?) ratchet wrench, and the Nibblers
$2 for the Plumbers Candles and 2 3" C-clamps.
Got the next three pics from the same stop $4.50; Belgian made double barrel shotgun barrels, (Lots of proof marks, no obvious makers marks...
)
This box came without the lock/latch, I had that in my "spare parts" collection. it's double walled and insulated.
And some welding Goggles, for fifty cents...
A couple of bucks for the old Henry Disston & Sons, meat/bone saw, that has a small 12" blade and will become my "traveling saw" for hunting trips. plus the sanding block, 100'Irwin tape, (older USA) and the NO Spigot.
A couple of Dunlap DOE, A Stanley chisel, and a scratch awl marked xxxxker (Parker? )
Also left a few things on the table or in one estate sale's case, on the bench, including a set of Wiss ""Specials" Bench snips. but asking $20 for a rusty pair is not a buyer's market...

Forgot this one. Stopped at a flea market by an antiques store and some guy was selling those sets of screwdrivers Harbor Freight gives away free with the coupons. (2.99 if you buy them).
He was asking $5.00 per set! (he had about 12 sets) I saw the price and laughed and he gave me an evil stare. The guy next to me picked one set up and I told him HF gives them out free with a coupon and the guy selling them looked like his head was going to explode with anger.
Guess I ruined his plans of collecting free stuff from HF and then selling it for twice the price HF sells it for! Everything else he had for sale was rusted Chinese junk that he had priced at Snap-On levels!

I've seen that at a couple of sales over here, they'll usually have a bucket with all of that stuff in it and a $3-$5 price on each item.
