amazing! you should be proud. it is a beautiful building. will the 6x6 beams on the inside be exposed, or will they be covered (i'm pulling for exposed)?

i love watching these builds and seeing the owner doing the work. not that there is anything wrong with hiring out the job, but i'm sure it will make working on your Land Rovers that much more fulfilling.
i love seeing the various use of offroad recovery gear throughout this build (Jeep guy here).

Time for another update.
I've completed insulating the walls and roof.

And I've finished the trim & battens on both sides and the front of the building.

The battens on the back won't be done until the portico is built, hopefully that will be done in the next couple of weeks.

I decided to build my own corner fittings for the portico on the back. I could have bought these from Socket Systems (they supplied the rest of the fittings I used) but it was quicker and cheaper for me to fab four of them myself.
I wanted to cut the 9/16 holes in the fittings quickly and since there are 1/2 lagbolts going in these holes I decided to use the plasma cutter instead of drilling all of them.
First I made a template to cut a 9/16 hole. The closest size tubing I had was a little large so I wrapped the plasma with aluminum tape.

Then I clamped the template in place and made the cut.

Here's a couple of photos of the fittings during welding. These are used for the upper corners and a 6x6 timber will extend completely through the fitting and form an overhang on each side of the portico.

Any update on what you will do in the "loft" area? Will the structure (as-is) support that entire overhead section becoming a loft? Pardon me if this has been given somewhere else in this thread, but what are the dimensions of the loft area?

As-is I wouldn't finish the top as a loft. I'm not sure of everything you'd have to do to do that but you can talk to Rodger at Socket-Systems; he's working with someone else that saw my build and is wanting to do that. Go back and read the entire thread and you'll see the couple of problems I had.

Here's a few photos from this weekend, I had three friends come over and help. We're building the frames for the covered work area off the back of the shop. I'm using the same 6x6 timbers and steel fittings. However this time I'm using some that I built for the corners and I modified the fittings at the peak.
The first two photos are my friends beginning to assemble the second frame.

Here's a couple of the rigging we used to erect the frames. Each frame is 20' wide and 14' to the peak. I guessestimate them at about 600-700 pounds each. We used the winch on my Range Rover to pull each one up.

And here's two of the frames at the end of today. We've got the joists installed and the remainder of the braces are in. Next up is to build the overhang on one end and connect the other to the shop.

I used the same materials you did except my walls are taller, hence 4x10 Hardipanel (at 97lb each) and the ripped Miratec.

What an amazing shop Mike. That thing ought to last 150 years the way it's built!! I presume you used Hardi-Plank for the lower siding as well as on the upper portion? I resided my last house with it and I know what you mean about that stuff being nasty to cut. If I ever do that again I'll use the shears they have now to cut it with. Lots less of that toxic dust blowing around.

Tim,
All of my door tracks and hardware are made by National Hardware and I got it through Tractor Supply. They stocked a lot of it in the store and were very helpful in ordering the rest for me. There are other brands available but this seemed the best compromise for me.

Sorry it's been a few weeks since my last update but my wife & I spent three weeks in Africa and then had to get ready for Christmas. Now to the Update.
I had some help this weekend, my friend Larry came over Saturday and Sunday and we built and hung the four front sliding doors on the shop.

For those who aren't local, we've been having an unseasonably warm winter, and had highs up to 60+ until Saturday, now we're back to about normal for this time of year, with highs from 30-50. BRRRRRR fortunately it's back to 60+ for Christmas....

You're right about that, the next problem is I've got to buy the roll-up door for the opening in the rear wall, looks like I've got to get my CPA to approve the expense.
