I originally ordered a Piggyback, but then between no gauge and ??? mounting, I ordered a seperate combo unit the day after which came with mounts and a regulator with gauge.
Cheaper then buying the mount, and heck probably cheaper then fabbing a mount up too.

Fabbing the mounts up is pretty cheap the way I am going to do it.


1 foot of aluminum angle is about $15. I can make three mounts out of that.

Just some sawing and some hole cuting and filing.

Got my stuff today, they packaged my 100' real and a smaller box of other stuff on a 4' pallet with cardboard cap/sleeve. Had to have cost well more than what I paid for the items just to ship them!

The drain-kit that I thought was another auto drain for a compressor turned out to be an auto-drain kit for the liquidator. So if anyone that got a liquidator (those must've gone quick as they weren't there when I ordered) and wants a spare auto-drain let me know.

All the regulators/filters that I got are nice. Now to plan out my compressor piping and where to put them.

The actual auto-drain that I did get is HUGE! It's float operated from what I can tell. I'll have to hook it up as indicated in the manual because it definitely won't fit under the compressor.

Wish I could get in on the hose reel deal too. I have over 150 ft of hose that gets so tangled it bothered my neighbor enough for him to re-coil it for me

I bought a few of the 3/8 and 1/4 piggyback combos, both automatic and manual drain. Does anyone else have trouble with air leaks at the drain area, especially on the automatics? The manual one I wiggle a bit at the bottom and it will leak/stop leaking. Doesn't take much to get a leak starting. This, with me simply blowing into the inlet, not under 125 psi pressure.

Not sure if this is operator error (how?) or if there's a break-in procedure involved? The units themselves didn't come with any documentation other than a small safety insert. Also need to replace an o-ring in the 1/4 filter/oiler combo, one of them was pinched and stretched and distorted and won't seal properly.

Pretty much exactly that, except the ones I got were blue. Nice hoses for $20. I wasn't able to find a pressure rating on them though, it's not printed on the hose.
They are probably 18-24" coiled up, 30' stretched I'm assuming.

Yup, heavy duty 1/2" coiled hose, 30 ft long. It also has 1/2"npt thread ends, so you need to keep that in mind. Great hose for $21

I was also looking at them, but the 1/2" NPT fittings scared me. That sounds like a bunch of adapters making them awkward. We have similar units in the semiconductor lab that I work in, and the 1/4" ones are slick!

If the tubing is close to a standard sae or metric size, you can cut the 1/2" npt fittings off and use ptc connectors. This is common practice at my work. We use ptc fittings for everything and I have yet to see one fail in 7 years at 100 psi. I've seen lots of air filter bowls with sight glasses fail, so beware of them. That's why I ordered all steel bowls.

Did the bowls fail due to excess air pressure, UV light exposure or ??

I ordered a few of the with the supported bowls, my plan was to regulate the main to 110psi and have independent regulators at each hose reel. I would like to know if there are any items I need to be aware of.

I should have stated that they were not ir bowls. We use only smc products. I chose to stay away from sight glasses due to the smc experience. They just randomly fail on us. 100psi is the most pressure they see. They usually crack at the edge of the sight glass.

2 questions: (I searched all of IR's online literature)

1. How does the auto drain work? Can I turn it off?
2. The flow is from left to right (top to bottom as pictured). Can the gauge be relocated to the other side?

Auto drain opens when there is not enough pressure to form a seal, add air pressure and it seals the drain again. Not sure about the gauge.

I've seen lots of air filter bowls with sight glasses fail, so beware of them. That's why I ordered all steel bowls.

Yeah I've got an older ARO regulator/filter and the bowl cracked and started leaking. I think it was clear plastic tho - - can't remember, maybe it was glass. I had to make my own bowl from a chunk of round Al I had lying around. Bored it out, tapped the bottom for a ball valve as a drain (hey, it works) and threaded the top on the lathe. Interesting trivia: the threads for the bowl were 2.5"-13.

My regulator is psycho now tho and will sometimes just leak/bleed off or not hold consistent pressures. I'm looking to replace with JUST a regulator; AFAIC my cooling wall will drop out most impurities and I'm not worried about a filter.

Overall I've been a disappointed with my ARO filter/regulator truthfully.

Was able to find just what I needed! Seems no one runs 3/4" NPT but that's my whole copper system.

Overall I've been a disappointed with my ARO filter/regulator truthfully.

You're not the only one.

Every other regulator I've ever used has had auxiliary access ports on the front and rear. These have those cheap plastic plates and there's no way to add an auxiliary gauge or port.

The other problem is that these regulators overshoot the regulated pressure. (I don't recall my old one doing that). When I open the valve the pressure jumps to at least +25% over regulated pressure and then I have to bleed it down before it regulates consistently.

They also seem very cheaply made. Like something you'd get at HF.

I just installed it. Yes you can swap the gauge and the blank plate from the front to the back.

The auto drain has a float in it. I did not find a way to force it to drain manually, but it has threads on the bottom, so you can add a plug or a hose. Looks to be 1/4" NPT

Somehow or another I missed this earlier.

I did manage to find one of the few remaining 1/4 NPT FRLs though.

Looks to be mostly British Standard left.

Going to make an assumption that you needed to put the dial on the other side due to the way you mounted the regulator. Did you also pull the filter housing and rotate it 180'? If nor you will have a heck of a time getting it off.

For reference I purchased the same unit, and had to do the same exact thing you did.

If you rotated the regulator 180' (evident because of the gauge position change) the lock mechanism for the filter is on the back. you can rotate the housing so the lock tabs are on the front by removing the 4 hex bolts in the bottom, then rotate the entire filter housing so it faces you and replace the bolts.

Been using 4 regulators the past few days and haven't noticed any of that behavior. But even if you are having problems, they were cheaper than HF so...

What brand of coiled hose are you using and is that a 3/8" or 1/2"?

I recently purchased some of these but have yet to receive the items. I wonder if these are any good.
