The electrician was here today.

Tomorrow he will run 100 ft of wire to the main breaker box and hook up the garage to power. Tomorrow there will be light.

The electrician finished today. It is hard to take a picture of lighting. You have to be there to really experience how bright the lighting is. I am very happy with the results. It is a very economical way to light a garage. Porcelain fixtures and screw in cfl bulbs.

I decided that since I'm an offical tightwad I would attempt my own sheetrock. I can tell you that not only has it taken twice as long as I would have imagined, but I have an addded benefit of losing nearly ten pounds and improved muscle tone (the ceiling was a killer). I'm just about to prime the walls. Have you decided on your paint color, or are you staying with white? The color is my next big decision, still haven't figured it out.

Looks bright! How is the quality of the light? The bright "point source" effect bothersome at all? Guess you may not notice in day-to-day use, and may not be able to tell until you are actually using it ...

The color of the walls will be light gray and the ceiling will be white. The trim and garage door paint will match the house.

It is very bright, the electrician who wired the garage had never seen CFL bulbs that big. He was very impressed with the light and how bright they were for the number of watts being used.
You are right until i get the garage loaded up I am not going to be able to tell if they do the job or not. I am happy with the results right now.

Nothing has happened the past three days because it was rainy and cold. Today the sun was out and first thing this morning the insulation truck pulled up.

They made quick work of insulating the attic.

The insulation truck pulled away and 15 minutes later the garage door installer showed up.

The door is up but the opener is in the process of being installed. He brought the lawnmower garage door also but it does not look like it is going to get installed today.

The lawnmower garage now has a door.

The only thing left to do is a little trim work and painting. Hopefully by next week I will be moving in, then the fun begins.

Looks like its coming along nicely. I like the door on the side of your garage. The ceiling lights are a little different from the lighting I've seen in other garages but I bet you will save some dough and they will light up your garage just fine. Again, your brick is sweet!

Thank you, I am happy with the progress. I learned about the lighting from Garage Journal. It is very economical and puts out a lot of light.

That is shaping up to be a very solid garage. Good luck with the next steps.

After the paint comes the move in. I still have not worked out a floor plan. I think I will do it on the fly and put everything on casters so they can be moved easily. It will always be a work in progress.

Now is the time in the build that it is hard to be patient. Everything is done but the trim work and the paint. Until that work is done I cannot move anything in or keep anything in the garage. My contractor has a trim carpenter but he is very busy. There is such a small amount of trim that the contractor is now the trim carpenter. He showed up after lunch and started work.

Air conditioner is trimmed.

Door is trimmed.

Remaining trim to be done tomorrow.

The painter is supposed to arrive tomorrow afternoon. If the weather agrees with the painting it should be finished by this weekend. However, it is supposed to rain Thursday so painting outside may be delayed.

The trim was finished today and the painter showed up to apply the coat of primer.

The painter said he will be done Friday. It is going to be a busy weekend.

The garage is finished. To say I am pleased would be an understatement. The painter finished last Friday.

Now the real fun begins. Time to move in. There is no timetable so I can take my time. I am a visual organizer. I could draw plans on a piece of paper but once I see the layout I always change it. No organization plan has been drawn. I'll find a place for everything, it will be a work in progress.

The lawnmower is in it's hole.

The overhead storage is being filled.

Stuff is being moved in and will be put away (eventually).

Some organization has started..

More to follow on another day. I still have a lot to move.

Congratulations on the completion of a fine looking garage! The brickwork really is good looking. Do you have any need for gutters/downspouts there in your part of Texas? Any plans for shrubbery or flower beds along any of the outside walls?

Congrats! I knew you'd be done quickly...

Is the door a Clopay insulated? I have one on order and had to choose the level of insulation. I was surprised to see that they make a door with R value > 12.

Not sure I could close the door with a MowerBoss on the back!:)

Organization will be a process. The garage walls look so pretty I don't want to mess them up. With my other garage there was just studs so I could hammer nails, screw in shelf supports and not have to worry about it. I have ordered some floor cabinets to put "stuff" in. Once they get here I will have a better idea about where things go. I didn't realize I had so much garden stuff. My little lawnmower garage may not hold all of it.

I wondered about your progress, will be anxious to see the report.

Everyone has gutters in this part of the country, I sometimes wonder why with as little rain as we are getting. I live near Lake Granbury and it is 6 ft down which means my neighborhood has nice beach front property instead of lake front property. I am not going to put them on the garage and see how things go.

My wife is the gardener in the family and she has plans for the perimeter of the garage. Some kind of bush I think???

I don't think it is a Clopay but it is insulated. Don't know the r-value but the door faces south so it will have sun most of the day. I oversized the air conditioner a little because of the south facing door.

Moving into my new garage is a slow process. Everything was stored in totes or boxes and as I move them I am trying to go through and find a place for my stuff. I have found some things I forgot I had and some things I have been looking for and didn't know where it was.

Here is what it looks like today.

I still have all of this to move and go through.

I am sure there are some thing I will move 5 or 6 times until I find the right spot for it.

Look forward to seeing those cabinets, metal or wood?

Looks like you have plenty of light in there.

You need to scrub that floor, your car tires are complaining :)

While its only hit mid-80's have you tried the A/C unit?

Cabinets will be metal. Anxiously awaiting the notice they have been shipped.

Very happy with the lighting. It is a real cheap way to get lots of light.

I was so anxious to get in the garage I told the contractor I would take care of the floor. Drywall mud is a little harder to deal with than I thought!!!

I did try the air conditioner yesterday. No problems cooling the place down. The real test will come when the temperatures hit the 90's.

Getting a little more organized still a lot of stuff to sort through.

The lawnmower garage is looking better.

The area where the air compressor will reside is coming together. Everything hanging on the wall may not remain there. You know how it is when you hang some pegboard, you start looking for stuff to hang.

Most important is hanging my Knoxville Sprint Car sign. I go every year to Knoxville Iowa to the National Championship Sprint Car races. This is the biggest event of the year for Knoxville Iowa population 7,000. 20,000 Sprint car fans come to town. They used to have sprint car signs hanging from the light poles all over downtown Knoxville. Six years ago I noticed the signs were gone. I went to the National Sprint Car museum and sitting on the floor of the lobby were two of the signs for sale, the last two available. I had to take one home. Now it is hanging in my garage.

Threw together a workbench. The top is a solid core door that I have had for 40 years with the idea of making a workbench. The time has finally arrived.

WooHoo! Looks nice! How does she roll, those wheels big enough? More important do they lock? Color reminds me of my Navy shipboard days.......

Rolls real good, I hope they are big enough. Yes they do lock.

The paint is porch and floor enamel. This is the light gray from the manufacture not a special mix. If anyone asks I'll call it battleship gray:).

I couldn't agree more. Back when i was doing my 600sf addition w/13' ceilings I couldn't decide on fixtures so I just had the electrician put (9) porcelain fixtures in so that I could pass the inspection. I picked up a package of daylight CFL's at Costco (75W using like 9W) for about $12. It lights up the garage like a basketball court and can burn all day at the cost of a 100W bulb. It's a great choise, IMSO.
