Ryan,

Two things:

(1) As a selective picker who uses this thread as an 'advanced virtual garage sale' (less junk, more good stuff, no driving required), I really appreciate you including sizes and other marking details that aren't always visible in the photographs.

(2) I'd love to see a close-up of the Barcalo 3/8” x 7/16” DOE

These are my finds from last week, a couple of big clamps and a Stanley hand drill. Does anyone know anything about this lawnmower?

Does anyone know anything about this lawnmower?

I think you pull the chord to start it and it mows the grass. Thus the name:lol_hitti

In all seriousness, I haven't the slightest clue about lawnmowers. I landscaped in high school and college, but never really payed much attention to the Scags we had to cut the grass.

Haha, thanks for that advice. :D I was hoping to restore it and put it back to use. I'd love to know what year it was made.

Looks like it has a briggs and stratton 3-4hp engine on it. Part of me wants to say that the engine is not original to the mower. The manufacture and model number is on the face of the mower. A good google serach would probably turn something up. If I had to guess I would say 60's or 70's.

It would look sweet if you restored it.

I'd guess the mower was late 50's early 60's, or so. I agree the motor is likely a swap out. That is a particularly nice one with the height adjusters all from one control. Never saw that done...

whats old is new, the higher end craftsman rear wheel propelled mowers are that way, maybe the highest end front wheel drive is too.

Think my Plomb cleaned up fairly nicely... definitely a keeper. Gotta clean up the matching cutters and SK ratchet I snagged that day too.

First try doing the red/white/blue polishing method, definitely need another CMan block to set up 2 more wheels ;)

No garage sale or craigslist here but this still seemed like the most appropriate place to post, found these in our scrap pile at the farm:

Smaller Steelcase desk (top is thrashed):

Turn sign:

Here is an overview of my estate sale find. Craftsman rolling tool chest with some tools. The overall quality of the tools was not great, due to family picking out the best. But there was easily $100 value regardless. And some gems hidden in the dross.I have not cataloged yet but there were several PowrKraft ring wrenches, a great Craftsman breaker bar, Drill bits by Hanson, Black and Decker and some other company I forget right now. Along with a selection of sockets and wrenches from Thorsen, Craftsman and a couple of others. There are a few Husky screwdrivers and nut drivers. Power tools includes a PowrKraft reversible drill, a Skil drill and a Skil jigsaw. Also a couple of woodworking hand tools.

I am real happy with my haul.

Very nice Craptain

Would you mind taking a picture and measure the height of one of the slides on that craftsman box? I didn't realize those boxes had build in dividers / stiffeners. They must be better built that I had thought.

For $100 looks like you got really good a good deal

Sbduncan, Be extremely careful with the vertical pull start mechanism on that mower. The last time I worked on one of them, the parts to repair the vertical pull starter weren't available any longer. A lot of those style were converted to side pull. You have to replace the top housing to do it. The good thing about that mower is the aluminum alloy deck. Those things will last forever. Back 20 years ago, you could buy a new one for about $100 at the local farm store. About that time they started putting out the cheapo lawnmowers that had the craptastic mower decks we all hate now. They must have started making the Pull-N-Go parts again: http://www.sears.com/search=briggs ...edirect=true&sLevel=0&redirectType=SKIP_LEVEL I was wrong! But the starter mechanism is the weak point on those engines.

Thanks for all advice and comments regarding the mower. It had crossed my mind that the engine was a swap, since it sits slightly crooked on the deck. It is a 3.5 HP Briggs & Stratton motor. Sadly, it does not run, but for only $5 it might make an interesting little project. :D

grabbed an eBay auction at flea market prices for this huge lot of old wrenches...

About 2 of every brand at the least, lol. Barcalo, Herbrand, New Brittian, Plumb, CMan, and a few others... about 1/3 of it was junk.

A Pebble Wrench!

And the Batman Wrench! lol

You can get great advice on mowers here: http://www.mytractorforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=155

I restore older mowers (2 strokes). The old Briggs could most likely sing again with an hours worth of work and $10 of new parts (as long is it has compression and spark).

Only if they were purchased in a garage :lol_hitti Just kidding, this is Jeff's thread so I guess he has the ultimate say, but I'd love to see Craigslist grabs on here as well. Afterall, aren't CL and Ebay sort of like the world's biggest garage sales? ;)

My Troy-Bilt (a real one, not the crappy MTD ones after the buyout) mulching mower has one bid "D" shaped handle at the rear of the deck that raises and lowers the entire mower all at once. One of my favorite features of that mower.

A little bit late, but here are last week's pickings:

From a mix of garage and estate sales, this is what I had left after sorting the wheat from the chaff. I didn't realize until I got home that the toolbox in the upper right is a Kennedy. I think it's a toolbox (as opposed to a tackle box) since the tray lifts out? Anyway, it's in decent shape. In front of it are USA screwdrivers by Proto, Bonney, Dunlap, Master Mechanic, Stanley, and Craftsman. Moving down are a Ford wrench and an old Fairmount wrench, an Indestro Super Offset DBE, two small Blue Point DOEs, Barcalo Linesman's, the slip-joints look like "Buffalo", but part of the logo is obscured, Kraueter wiring pliers (I think that's what they are called), a 4" Blue Point adjustable, some Starrett 6" scales, Snap-On/Vacuum Grip snap-ring pliers and cutters. Moving to the left side, there are some curved German-made Millers Forge cutters, tiny Utica needlenose, Craftsman dividers, imported pliers of undetermined function, a Stillson pipe wrench by Moore Drop Forging, a 1/2" Wright torque wrench, an older (USA) adjustable box-end wrench, tiny lightweight C-clamp, locking USA-made (but brandless) hose clamp pliers, and finally a Snap-On Small Engine valve spring compressor.

I like that clamp Flatintoone. I'll have to Frankenstein one of my 50 that I have spread throughout the shop into a similar one. Great for rosette welding. My vise grip ones aren't deep enough to clamp to my welding table.

It looks like a valve spring compressor to me. The "C" frame is too light for a c-clamp. The fork is from a valve spring compressor for sure.
