Exhaust tubing separator I got from the Eastwood Company. I got this specialized tool because I was restoring the vehicle and I wanted to re-use the parts.

I recently picked up a K tool USA 70323 to pull the harmonic balancer from a 2.0 plymouth breeze I was working on. It was not intended for that application but it worked very well. I am going to try it on a u joint next.

Off topic I know, but I have a question regarding pullers. I have a 17 ton fixed plate puller. The screw is seized in the plate. The screw is about 1 1/8" in diameter. I'm guessing it's cross threaded? Anyone ever had a problem like this? Got any suggestions? I have pulled and pulled and pulled, even added cheaters and I can't free it.

big *** impact wrench? 3/4" or 1" drive lol some penetrating fluid and blue wrench.

You'll be lucky to save any of it if the threads are destroyed.

I have this set from KD Tools. I used the ball joint separator a few weeks ago and ended up bending the stud, but it separated the ball joint ... and with a loud pop.

I owned a 2.0L Breeze, did the timing belt twice. The FACTORY manual simply tells you to use a three jaw puller, so yes, that is an intended application for it. To reinstall the "balancer" (its not, as its perfectly balanced and not keyed to the crank, its merely a pulley) You use a piece of threaded rod *I think* 12.5mm x 1.5 , screw it in where the bolt goes, slide the pulley over it, and install a couple of greased washers and a nut and carefully drive it on. Got the metric threaded rod at Fastenal.

I assume you know to apply lots of pressure and then hit the side of the spindle with a steel hammer. The shock causes the tapered hole to actually change shape slightly/temporarily and the taper falls out. I rarely even need to do anything other than hit the side of the spindle two or three times and the whole thing falls apart without any other help.

Yup ... tried just the hammer on the other one and didn't work; had to resort to a pickle fork, which did work. Ended up replacing both lower control arms since the compliance bushing was shot.

The first picture there are two bearing separators buried. Also is a large 12 ton OTC 3 jaw puller that is broken down to fit. Large and small slide hammers and attachments and my power steering pullers. The second is my big SO kit, very spendy, but very handy.

The crankshaft opening is very deep. I just used 1/4" extension. Instead of specific tool. The new GM V8's are the same.

Impact wrench won't do much if i can't secure the flange. I tried a 3/4 impact, but it just pulls the flange outta my vise. Thinking about taking it to a machine shop. As long as the flange is in tact, I can always get a new bolt and use 2 nuts (a pain, but these things are expensive as hell).

6-Speed, I would have killed for that set 2 weeks ago. 1.5 hrs with a dead blow, torch, pry bars, not fun at all. In typical fashion, I've ordered the tool now. That set would have made quick work of my upper control arms. Still got the lowers and TRE's to go next year, so hopefully it's not going to collect dust for long. Thanks!

These are a must in you work on engines, p/s pulley pullers & installer. these are snap on. Once in a while I'll run in to a pulley that's too big for the small one & too small for the big one, is there a middle sized puller?

Try CJ132A. Lisle also has a lesser version.

I like the set you have, they look sturdy.

I never tried the posi locks, but the SO's put normal 2 or 3 jaws to shame. I have a big OTC for pulling hubs because my SO kit won't spread wide enough and it is a pain to use.

It's not cross threaded, it was used with out a jam nut. I have a 20 ton enerpac and you have to double nut and/or back up any threaded piece with a nut. Try to salvage the plate but the screw is all done.

I'd love to buy that whole settup with the board and all - my first lead mechanic (sort of my mentor) had the full cabinet with everything they offered back the early 90's, but I still have not brought myself to spend that much.

I've pieced together what I really need for my work along with taking care of the personal projects:

That two jaw in the lower left is that a williams or snap on?

It looks like a nice piece.

The puller looks SO, but I think Williams has their own version. The pullers are made by somebody else, I don't remember the name. My understanding there is a no compete agreement so they don't sell directly.

I got a couple. This doesn't include the large OTS set or the dozen Miller Tool specialty Chrysler boxes. But not matter what, there always seems to be the need for another one....I dun't get it :)

Mostly Proto and OTC. A couple of Armstrong-Blum, Snap-On and other odds and ends:

Not shown, 17-1/2 ton OTC hydraulic push-puller and large 3-arm puller, Snap-On camshaft bearing remover/installer set, stud puller/installer set, and ball joint press, Armstrong-Blum blind bearing puller set and seal driver set, Proto step-plate adapters, and a few of the legs and adapters for the cross-arm pullers and hub puller.

Forcing screw and pad from a craftsman 47626 puller used with a k tool 70365 pitman arm puller to press a u joint and straighten the bent yoke on the drive shaft.

Two items i recently picked up for other jobs and turned out I was able to repurpose them.

Here's what I have at home. Few more at work...these are culls I don't use at the current job. Finally got that big puller (left) fixed with thread files and lots of patience.

I finally got to this: Here are most of the pullers; there are a few more that won't fit in the drawer (Trying to figure a better way to organize/store these...), plus three more slide hammers in their own boxes, and I think 2 or 3 bearing separators with the Press.
