Thank you. It's been a lot of fun. I've always been a diy'er but this is by far the biggest project I've undertaken. Other than the slab and setting the trusses this has been a 2 man build, just my dad and me.

Yes, planning on boxing the posts with stone and/or cedar and the lvl beam in rough cedar.

Lean-to piers, posts, beam & joists all in place.
I need to Trusslok the lvl beams together, right now it's just 4 independent lvls up there, 3.5" thick and 66' long.

Also time to start sistering in the lean-to rafters.

After I see the lean-to completed I'll be able to decide if it going to get a couple of dormers...
Either 2 dormers and 1 cupola or 1 dofmer and 2 cupolas...

Got the lean-to rafters up today.
Now I've got to get the front and back gable eaves up then I can deck it and get a roof on it.
Still can't decide whether or not to add a couple of dormers...

A few little detail pieces and then the decking can begin.
Still waiting for a standing seam quote, I have quotes from $5k to $6k for shingles.
I'll feel much better once it's got a top on it.

Well the big construction is drawing to an end.
It's basically ready to deck... and now I have to go back to work...

I'm looking forward to getting a roof on is so I can take a little bit of a breather.

Thanks BDAZSVT! It's been a lot of fun. It is plenty big for a two man build.
The outside isn't even done and I'm already catching myself day-dreaming about how I'm going to finish the inside.

Slowly but surely this thing is taking shape.
Man that 10/12 pitch is a pain to work on!
And the 64lbs a sheet with that 19/32 OSB just might kill me.
Still have 2 dormers and a cupola then it will be time for a roof.

You'll have lots of attic room with that angle, but man, what a roof pitch!

Yeah, you ain't kidding. I used to be an Ironworker and walked high steel all day long, it may have been narrow but at least it was flat. You start sliding on that 10/12 you're just along for the ride.
Attic room is pretty big 16' wide, 10' ceiling and 60' long.

Decking done!
Something like 127 sheets @ 64lbs a sheet. Very glad to be done with that stage.
One dormer almost done, one more to do and a coupola.
Should have ice & water shield and underlayment down early next week.
A bid for standing seam should also be coming in about then too.

As far as getting to work with Roland Leong, you're living the life. I had the opportunity to meet him a while back at a dragstrip that is no longer around. That was almost 42 years ago at Pences is Sidney, Ohio and he was running his Funny Car against Connie Kalitta. He took the time to explain some things to a 14 year old kid and I'll never forget that. He made one run down the track, brought the car back on the pit side where I was with my Brother-in-law. He pulled the plugs and tossed them on the ground. I asked him if I could have them, so he gave them to me. I had those plugs for years. The "Hawaiian" vs. "The Bounty Hunter". Cool **** for a 14 year old!!!!

Well Kevin you'll be happy to know Roland hasn't changed since you met him. I've seen him put down a wrench to take a photo with somebody or to sign something. Getting to be in the pits with him working on a car can be a bit surreal. Drag racing has been his one and only job since 1962! He is the MAN!
And we still toss spark plugs to kids who want a souvenir!

Building the second dormer and finishing the first.
Lastly setting & centering the cupola base.

The dormers are 5' wide with a 3' x 4' window and a 10/12 pitch roof.
The coupola base is 4' x 4'

Finally it's dried in.
Ice & water shield in the valleys and synthetic underlayment over the rest.
No more wet building!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on getting dried in! That always put a smile on my face when we would dry-in a building. Could you take some pictures of how you headered off the trusses where the dormers are? I always wound up having architects that specified stick framing around the dormers, so never got to put them in a truss, just curious.

When I first saw the picture of John Troxel's car I knew something looked familiar, but I just could not place it. I looked into it a little more and I think I know why.

About 5-6 years ago when I was working a summer internship in Kansas City, one of my good friends from back home in Central Missouri asked me if I wanted to go to Kansas City International Raceway to help one of his dads friends crew for a vintage funny car. I spent a fun evening at the drag strip mostly watching but helping when I could. Unfortunately the weather was giving the carb fits that night and only one of the passes was good, but I still had a blast. Is John based out of Central Mo, not too far from Fulton, Mo? If so, I bet I have seen the car first hand.

Yep you got the right guys/car. We run a full program these days. I think there are 12-14 races on the calendar this year. Roland is tuning for us full time. Got the car running strong in the low to mid 7's and we're looking for a 6.90-95 pass this year. John still owns the car and pays all the bills, he lives just South of Fulton. Good to here from you.

My smile has grown... it rained yesterday and snowed today, and my floor is dry.
Well in an effort to get this things dried in the dormers havent been cut through yet. I'll be calling the truss company to get their advice on how they would like the trusses cut. I had a very experienced carpenter take a look at it to give his $.02 and it's pretty much what I thought. Sister the 2x10 bottom chords, sister the top chord w/ 2x8, lvl header etc...
Truth be told I may not do it. I may put a frosted window in the upstars room and use those solar light tubes... I haven't decided yet, the goal was to get it dried in.

Well I'm a transplant from northern Minnesota so my perspective is a little skewed... but we got two nice doses of snow north of the river.

N Minnesota? Then this is probably a dusting for you. I came here from a short stay in Wyoming, at least there the wind would blow the snow into a different state.

Poly and dirt sealed the openings and I held 3" of water on it for 4 or 5 days.

You are correct... Racing...
11 events this year. Scortched some pistons, popped a blower, put it in the wall auditioning a new driver... TWICE, $$$$

But spent a some quality time with Roland Leong and didn't hang the rods out the motor by the end of the season...

By the way the funny car is for sale on ebay... we're not getting out of racing we want to run faster and that would be easier with a new car.

Drag racing season has come to a close...
Back to building...

Metal going on. I was surprised how much a few of the house wrap staples showed through the metal if they weren't sunk all the way flush.
So word to the wise if you're putting metal on top of sheathing take the extra time to be sure the wall is completely smooth...
